Ubisoft announces free-to-play battle royale title Hyper Scape for consoles and PC
Namerah S and 2 others reacted to monterxz for a topic
some people like myself don't like Fortnite's "unique amusing taste". For me Fortnite is too childish, it's not a competitive shooter (everyone builds a fortress around them when you hit them once), some pop culture events that I don't get because I'm too old for the pop culture. I like Apex Legends, but it lacks solo mode, which I like to play from time to time while no of a couple of my friends is available. I'll sure try this one out when it's released.3 points -
Ubisoft's The Settlers reboot delayed again, no longer has a release date
Raa and 2 others reacted to +InsaneNutter for a topic
I absolutely loved the original Settlers game on the Amiga, then The Settlers 2 on PC took everything about that and made it even greater. I never really played any other games in the series after that with the exception of The Settlers II 10th Anniversary. I might have to check this out if / when released.3 points -

Horizon Zero Dawn heads to PC on August 7, exclusive features detailed

It'll be interesting to see how well this does, and if so if Sony will just start to release more of their exclusives to PC later on. If it becomes a trend for them to, probably not day and date like MS does, lots of people could just start to wait for the better "complete" PC versions a year or two after the console releases.2 points -
Tesla denies firing employees who preferred to stay at home
mip and one other reacted to shockz for a topic
I’m not seeing the problem even if they did fire them? If you don’t report to work, then obviously you’re going to be fired. If you don’t want to report to work because of covid fears, then quit? If you are sick/part of a quarantine, that’s different. If you take leave while healthy, I assume it’s part of your pto/time off plan, and if you run out, and continue leave, I’d expect any reasonable company to replace you after not much longer. California is also an at will state, just like the majority of the US, which means than an employer can fire you at will for basically whatever they want, minus protected worker classes. Unions offer some additional protections/guarantees, but if a company wants you out, especially for not reporting to work, you’re probably going to get axed.2 points -

Microsoft Support adds a new section dedicated to mobile devices
matthiew and one other reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
Exactly, they will release mobile device with the specs of yesteryear and if salse doesn't happen, they would wonder what went wrong. I hear, even the camera will be a meh for a so called flagship phone. Maybe... But they also released advanced phones for several years, and nobody cared anyway. The silly Lumia 950 from 2015 still has specifications that have only started being beat in the last year. They had stuff like the first 4K video (2013) - first HDR, first 5.1 sound encoding, etc. The OS was also faster than Android and iOS, was insanely stable, and had a multi-layer isolation App model designed into the OS, meaning it was really secure. This got them, MOCKED. I hope they stick to mid range features and prices, screw innovating technologies for others to use, let Apple and Google just feed off each other like they have done since 2015. (Also notice how little things progressed in that timeframe.) /rant off.2 points -
100W charging could debut in 2021 gaming phones
darkpuma and one other reacted to bearda for a topic
Many gaming phones have overclocked GPUs and, sometimes, a better cooling system or even a physical fan. They were amongst the first to get high refresh rate displays and some have extra physical buttons and RGB lighting. They are a bit different from standard smartphones, so I believe calling them gaming phones is fine. I think you're missing the point of his post (or maybe I am) - gaming phones is the most ridiculous thing I've heard of in a while. It's a PHONE. If it's primary purpose is playing games, it's obviously not a phone, which has the primary purpose of, you know, actually calling people. Gaming tablet maybe, but not phone. Think of them as Portable gaming consoles with calling abilities https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N-Gage_(device) Seemed dumb then, too.2 points -
Tesla denies firing employees who preferred to stay at home
mip reacted to shockz for a topic
It's not quite that simple, that's basically putting pressure on them to work at a time when there is a virus around and we only have to look at Musk and all his ranting and raving with what was going on in California a few weeks back which give the impression he didn't care about the safety of his workers. Going on what you are saying, that is very weak labour laws they have in California if they can get rid so easy. It’s that simple. If you don’t report to work after being asked to report to work, and do not have a valid reason per their company agreement they signed during hiring, you can be fired.1 point -
Horizon Zero Dawn heads to PC on August 7, exclusive features detailed
George P reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
I suspect they are planning on doing, it wouldn't make much sense for them to release just this game and be done with it, it seems they are testing the waters out to release other games on the PC. Bloodborne is another that is coming to the PC which was a PS4 exclusive. Honestly, I don't have a problem waiting a year or two for the PC version, there are too many games to play anyway to worry about it. I also feel this could be an advantage for PC gamers because having to wait means they end up with the full package with all dlc contents as one and I rarely like playing games until it's all packaged together so this is great for me.1 point -

Hue is free to claim on the Epic Games Store this week
dead.cell reacted to JUANMAS7ER for a topic
No, doesn't need it. Not so much that it doesn't need it, just that Steam are quite happy to give Epic more market share because they will only wake up when Epic is a real threat which by then it's too late. In other words, what Epic is doing is working and it's slowly chipping away, Steam sitting still could be a massive mistake for them if they are not careful. I would like a free of the week game from Steam, don't get me wrong...but on the other hand, besides Fornite..these free give aways is what keeps Epic Store relevant imho. Steam is still the place to go for your average Joe when it comes to PC and games, i personally think there's better options like GOG, but that's just me.1 point -

U.K markets regulator critiques Apple's search engine deal with Google
matthiew reacted to Tuskd for a topic
In the same way I don't get a choice of app stores on my TV or the entertainment system of my car. You can of course change the search engine on iOS and web browser defaults are coming in iOS 14. I agree that other browsers should be allowed but other app stores is a bit of a stretch you wouldn't build a "mall" then allow some random bloke to bring in his cart and sell c**p without paying rent. The mall analogy makes me think, that Apple should charge alternate App Stores for a place in iOS, but not for the apps sold in those stores. Similar to what is done with real world malls.1 point -
UK House of Lords calls for loot boxes to be considered gambling
matthiew reacted to StrikedOut for a topic
Lootboxes are usually purchased with real money. As are packets of football cards/stickers and pokemon cards. Super interesting point. If you breakdown both down to fundamentals (i.e. buying an item which has a chance involved of what's returned) then it seems like both are forms of gambling. It may be that because loot boxes are in the news more often, it's the one that's being scrutinised. I guess the only difference I can think of is that you can take your cards and swap with friends, you cant in game with loot boxes. Perhaps trading cards need to be looked at as well? Either way, loot boxes need to be scrutinised. I play World of Tanks and each Christmas, I buy some loot boxes but as a sensible adult, I accept that I may not get what I am after and spend well within my means but there are plenty of games aimed at kids with loot boxes.1 point -

Microsoft releases Windows 10 build 20161 to the Dev channel with a bunch of new features
devHead reacted to George P for a topic
I might give the start menu a try again. But still not enough for me to stop using Startisback or Start10. It needs advanced customization options like these replacements offer. I have to agree; I use StartisBack primarily for the centered icons on the taskbar, the larger size icons and a few other tweaks I wish came with Windows natively. Who knows where it's going now, they have a different start menu for 10X, I think we could see either the option to switch between the two, or they're going to end up merging them in some way over time. MS isn't going to do any drastic UI changes anymore, did that with Windows 8.x and people acted like the sky was falling.1 point -
