Google Chrome's new feature tests promise up to 28% battery usage improvements

Because Safari can work closely with the in-house OS team and Hardware teams to optimize specifically on the select few devices that Apple offers. It's part of why Edge also was much better on battery than Chrome or Firefox. Edge is much more tightly integrated to the OS taking advantage of more optimizations. This is also part of why Edge on Chromium is great for Google. It has people much more familiar with Windows working on their codebase. It also can lead to Windows itself having changes that would help the browser.5 points -

That's because whole updating process on any Android phone is garbage. First you wait for months to even get the update, which is then further delayed per regions in most cases and then you lose the ability to get any new updates usually after just 2 years because vendors of the device you bought simply stop updating it. It's one of reasons why I went with an iPhone and the experience is like night and day. Updates now arrive the moment they are announced and 5 years of updates is nothing unusual on iPhones. If given the option between the US or China spying on me, I will pick the US every time. France and the US have been allies for a very long time. It's unlikely the US will deliberately sabotage their economic and critical infrastructure even if they have backdoors to the equipment. That can't be said for China, given how aggressive and hostile they have been to the west. China is so hostile that over the last 20 years they have lied to the world and illegally invaded multiple countries and well over a million people are dead and millions more have no prospect of a future because their countries have been obliterated and because of the lies to by the Chinese communist party... oh wait, no, that was the US!2 points -
UK minister: Huawei must meet conditions for continuance of involvement in 5G network

Why, Just because the U.S says so? i think the reason why Trump is against them is because Trump is scared that the U.s have competition and that too many products are now coming from China and not the U.S It's not about USA, the practice of chinese companies on foreign soils is very much suspicious. No matter how much blame you want to put on trump, china's deeds had made this thing coming. Having U.s companies on foreign soil is suspicious as well, but we still have them over here, and then they change the companies they buy to rubbish, only have to look at Cadburys, well their chocolate was not the best, since Kraft took it over, their chocolate have even less taste. Too many companies from the U.S over here, running things, look at Windows and Android and most of the software and hardware. why should we trust the U.s more than China? Certainly now that Truimp is in charge? We still have a few of your military bases here, who thinks they can do what they like and act as if they are in their own country, time they were gone as well. I know we are a small country, but it is time we stopped being puppy dogs and following other countries. Sure we need to have deals and be allies, but some countries just extract the Urine Because US is an ally and china is nobody's ally. China has banned lots of free speech materials and platforms im china, and it exploits the same thing in democracies. China would harm democracies like Japan, India by its expansionist nature, US won't. Snooping is bad but when it comes to choosing lesser evil, US is anytime better. And trump won't be last as president forever, while dictators like Xi will continue to rule china like forever. The U.S., is an ally when it suits them, only have to look how trump is at the moment when we say we are not going to accept the U.S. unsafe food. I don't agree with the Chinese dictatorship and it would be great if it would change, but it is never going to, look at North Korea, even while people are starving and the shops are empty, people still put up with it. Then again, who is to say that this would not happen in the U.S. or the U.K. for that matter? you only have to look at what have happened over the last few months and how quickly the government can lock us down. The U.K. have been a police state for years and this virus thing have proved it, sadly people still do not see it. The problem is, all politicians are the same, they say all the good stuff when the want your vote, but as soon as they get into power it is a different thing. Apart from Trump, people knew what he was like before and still voted him in, then again we done the same thing with B.J.2 points -

Let's get the basics right first! I'd settle for a coherent UI theme and quick updates. Amazes me after 11 major versions we're still left with the usual mess. OK, so apple have snapped up all the great designers, but a few simple tweaks to the code would make a big difference. Oneplus are the worst for this. In fact, the underlying basic problems have been with us for such a long time, I actually think they can't be fixed.2 points -

Where is the hate exactly? Critical feedback is just that, feedback. Not hate. If you can't handle feedback or you become offended by a suggestion (Trump is the master of this), I can see how you could interpret it as hate. But this review seems completely fair to me, it's a review after all, and a 7 is not a bad score by any means. I for one would love a 360 convertible from MS, even though I was hanging out to see the new SB3. It doesn't mean I hate MS. It just means this product refresh didn't deliver to my (and many others) expectations.2 points -

Horizon Zero Dawn heads to PC on August 7, exclusive features detailed
Jose_49 reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
Let's see, I don't see any PS5 games coming out for the foreseeable future, and not because not only Sony will not do it, but I guess how worlds will be designed (due to the instant loading) will be pretty difficult to replicate on the PC. Anyways, I'm super excited for this to happen!! Not to knock the PS5 SSD but I really don't think devs will have a hard time either using it fully if it's just a 1st party title only, or not using it if it's a multiplatform title. Many of the games Sony showed in their event are coming to PC, so I don't see all that SSD speed being put to use. Having said that, when you port the games that do, a year or two later, you can always tweak that. Another thing to take into account is that the PC is going to have as fast, or faster NVME drives this year as well, you need a mobo with PCIe 4.0 though. I think this is what it comes down to. First party gonna first party, but this isn't the 90s anymore -- third parties aren't gonna go all in on being "a PS5 company" when diversifying is less risky and more profitable. And if you build a game with multiple platforms in mind, you pay a lot less attention to what only one of those platforms can do. I know Sony fanboys can get downright Apple cultist in their outrage when a game stops being an exclusive and an "experience" doesn't just belong to them anymore, but it's the reality of expensive development. This is the problem, games development is getting expensive and developers are having to be on as many platforms as they can, even many Sony first party games are starting to come to the PC, the problem is that developers have to look at the weak link in the chine and that is the Xbox Series X SSD, the PS5 cpu and gpu.1 point -

What consumer PC's do you specifically recommend buying/making? Just because it is manufactured at Foxconn does not make it a Chinese product. By cutting quality most people don't notice or care about. It's not so much that, but more being able to leverage faster processing speeds of newer hardware lets you do more complicated (And more efficient) compression. You could probably write a video codec with 10x the compression ratio of anything out there today, but at the expense of not being able to decompress it in real time on commodity hardware.1 point -

Well, that depends on who manufactured your Android device. Nokia has been doing good at release security patches almost every month, but I am still on Android 9 as they haven't updated to Android 10. This is the one thing I don't like about Android, waiting so long to get an upgrade if your phone does get upgraded to a new version of Android. I think most OEMs stop updating after 2 years to try to get you to buy a new phone. Google has tried to get OEMs to keep updating phones for up to 3 years, but hasn't been successful.1 point -

You actually think Intel can compete with yet another 14nm refresh of Skylake? It's 14 nm Willow Cove, not Skylake. Moore's law is pretty much dead. uArch is the name of the game now. Not on AMD. Performance and io keeps improving on that platform and AMD is already leaving 7nm and doing 5nm for Ryzen 4xxx. Intel is still suck in 2014 technology with 14nm 😄. My could you imaging reading my post 10 or 15 years ago?! Process node size don't mean much these days, mainly more for marketing. They should be compared based on transistor density. Intel's 10nm node is still more dense than TSMC's and Samsung's 7nm node. Also, Intel's upcoming 7nm will have twice the density of Intel's 10nm and is still more dense than TSMC's 5nm.1 point -

Gotta remember that it takes more than getting it off the ground. Rocket Lab is designed for the small sat business ... so it is possible that the customer(s) looked at SpaceX (and others) but only Rocket Lab fulfilled their requirements. SpaceX does launch small sats, and can do it cheaper, but they are ride-shares meaning that you could waiting a loooong time to jump on a SpaceX rocket that will take you to your desired orbit (since you aren't the primary payload). With Rocket Lab ... you get a dedicated launch service for your small satellite. Just unfortunate that they suffered this failure ... but so have others (including SpaceX). Space is hard.1 point -

"Specifically, during the rocket's Max-Q phase, the rocket experienced unexpected stress." Source to this (other than the TechCrunch article). I doubt the accuracy of this as Max-Q occurs ~1 minute into launch while the anomaly occurred with the second stage ~6 minutes after launch. Rocket Lab hasn't mentioned "unexpected stress" during Max-Q (at least I couldn't find it). The anomaly occurred when they were "hot swapping" the batteries which power the pumps to feed the rocket engine. Though this isn't the confirmed issue ... I suspect it will be the cause of failure.1 point -

When I see people on Facebook saying lets stop buying stuff from China, I reply to them try it and see how far you get. Looking around this computer room now I bet 99.9% of the products here was made in China. i know my Hi-fi was made in Japan, but then it is years old and a lot of stuff used to be Made in japan then. My latest large purchase was a NAS and that is from a Chinese company, Terramaster, it was a good price, all metal case, and the closest to it was twice the price and no doubt still made in China, i now Synology are made in Taiwan, well some, but no one seems to put the made in label on line, which is stupid. Microsoft Surface Book 3 review: Please Microsoft, just make a convertible

I’ve owned a Surface Book before and I loved the idea of using it as a tablet or a computer — and the machine was a power house at the time. However, I never once actually used the screen as a tablet. Disconnecting it is a hassle and it’s ridiculously heavy, thick, and it offered a horrible battery by comparison to any other tablet. Finally, I think it would make a lot of sense to make the book a convertible: it would even honor its name. You don’t rip books in half then reconnect them, but you do sometimes bend them 360 degrees. Plus, then they could focus on making the most powerful laptop device on the market without having to pretend it’s also a slate tablet.1 point -
