Apple is blocking users from downgrading to iOS 13.5.1 from iOS 13.6
mehta708 and 3 others reacted to WallyMcClure for a topic
Seriously? A couple of weeks after a release, Apple ALWAYS stops code signing for previous versions. This is nothing new. Yawn. Not quite sure why this is worthy of a story on Neowin. Yea, apple fanboy sites always document this, but this isn't worthy of a story even there. Nobody in the real world downgrades. The culture of the PC and mobile is that you always move forward. Sure, previous versions of iOS were ######, but nobody goes backwards.4 points -

I've got to disagree with this. Just because we are providing advice or a service free of charge doesn't mean that we should be providing a sub-par service. I think of it this way: I am advising someone what to do in order to protect myself as much as them. If their system becomes compromised, it has the potential to compromise other systems. Also, I'm not only thinking about this one person asking for advice. What about the other people who go to Google with a similar question and get directed to this thread? I would always provide someone with the best advice, even if it is something that they don't want to hear. If they want to wreck their system then so be it, but I won't have a part in it. How did you not intentionally use the typo, "steaks"?! It was right there!3 points -

This only proves how dangerous misinformation is and how many people who don't know any better fall for it. That is called hypocrisy!. Twitter: unverified facts(*) are misinformation. So, let's hear CNN, FOX, etc. because they are a source of 100% truth. Also, please check this shady ad! and please, buy that crap of product/service. (*) scientists facts are no fact at all. Twitter is OK to preach misinformation if they profit from it. For example, "Incredible anti-mosquito device is taking __your city__ by storm!" You win the mental gymnastics gold medal! Ahem. Twitter profit from selling scams. Most ads are scam and Twitter does nothing to stop it because they earn from it. And it is on top of the whole scams and propaganda allowed by Twitter to brainwash the idiots. Also, Twitter preaches about WHO, the same cretins that said "no, it is just a flu, so there is nothing to worry", and WHO is the official voice of Coronavirus. But somebody gives his or her opinion and Twitter ban because is misleading. So, Twitter (and their executives) has zero ethics or morals to say what is good or bad. Now, what is your point? Do you have a point? I mention the WHO because it was a vivid example of what is happening. Using WHO as an example just shows how far we'd go down the rabbit hole in any response to a point I'd be making. It'd be a waste of time. You're too far gone.2 points -

Do you know what would be great? That they stop mailing me about there new Edge browser after the 5th email. I never signed up for any newsletter, so maybe start there. But on topic, yes, any popup or very important notification should be presented as a bar without moving the content because of a slide in. We used to have a nice status bar for this kind of stuff. Same as with spotify with the many screen sized popups, even on premium. I dont care for that paid recommendation, or that functionality i already know about. To be honest, since the introduction of Gamepass it has become a little muddier. We now essentially have 4 tiers right? Silver/Free (let's you chat or something I think) Gold - MP, games/deals with gold Gamepass - Netflix for games (but no MP) Gamepass Ultimate - Gold and Gamepass combined. With the introduction of xCloud, that could muddy the water further, so a streamline would be welcome!1 point -
Surface Duo passes through the FCC as launch inches closer
Jazmac reacted to BoondockSaint for a topic
I wouldn't imagine they will bother with single screen. The Android market is over saturated with devices, and the Duo's selling point is the screens. The other specs are middle of the road, and the camera optics are pretty basic. I don't think MS wants to get into a flagship war for regular handsets. For what the device is going for those specs are fine, IMO. It's not a gaming device, it's not so much a personal camera/video record everything you do device either. Like you said, the selling point is the dual screens for added productivity and getting work done. The camera looks to be enough for your daily skype/teams video conf needs as well. Battery might be a issue but we'll see. Agreed, it's a fine device built for a specific task, which is why I doubt MS will bother with single screen versions. Getting into a flagship war with the market leaders would not end well. When WM still had a life it was different, since (for example) the Nokia cameras were far ahead of most other manufacturers. There was a good selling point to the handsets. MS would be starting off on a back foot in any device that doesn't have a 'hook', like this. Personally I think the Duo will be my next handset, it's almost exactly what I want in a device.1 point -

I think in "largest launch line-up for any console ever" he's including all of the backwards compatible games which will in fact be playable at launch on Series X. Happy to be proven wrong though. Re: Forza, I have a sneaking suspicion that it's all hands on deck to help 343 finish Halo Infinite in time for launch, which is why Forza Motorsport 8 could have been moved back from launch day, if the leak is true. With Halo being so important and Microsoft heavily promoting DiRT 5, I can see this definitely being the case. Also a fun a little thing, in case you missed the 'Exclusive' voiceover from E3:1 point -

Slack has filed a complaint against Microsoft over Teams
matthiew reacted to Ergon for a topic
I personally prefer using Slack at work over Teams, but Teams being included in the licensing for a lot of companies O365 makes it much easier for them to start using a collaboration tool whilst everyone is working remotely. One thing that did irritate me is how Teams installed itself automatically on many of the PCs I support and set itself to run at start up which it seems to turn back on occasionally after an update. That part is extremely annoying.1 point -
Mafia: Definitive Edition gameplay revealed in a new 14-minute trailer
dustojnikhummer reacted to ThaCrip for a topic
I would seriously get a hold of the first game and use 'unlimited draw distance' and 'widescreen fix' patches as it helps graphics a little and has a proper aspect ratio display on modern resolutions like 1080p etc. also, I heard the release on GOG etc is missing original score/music but the copy I am using is the original release from 2002 with the patch as originally I played the game and that racing mission was quite difficult to beat without the patch as once the game was patched, the racing mission is a cake walk. but I also agree with you that Mafia III was underrated as the characters in that are solid. it's the worst of the three games but still better than any Grand Theft Auto game if you ask me. Mafia (2002) = 10/10 (a masterpiece (a word I rarely use)), Mafia II (2010) = 9/10 (not quite the greatness of the first game but it's still the 2nd best video game experience I had to date behind the first game), Mafia III (2016) 7-8/10. also, since you played Mafia II already, there was one mission that will have no meaning for you where as if you played the first game it's a nice nostalgia trip.1 point -

How to stop Windows 10 update ?
goretsky reacted to warrenrumak for a topic
Windows Updates requiring a reboot should happen once a month, not twice a week. Something is wrong with your system. These suggestions you're getting for disabling Windows Update entirely are not the right solution, however. That'd be like fixing a leaky shower head by never taking a shower again. Disabling Windows Update means you also don't get the latest updates for Defender. Microsoft has a web page here with instructions on how to completely reset Windows Update: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/update/windows-update-resources You can use Event Viewer to see what Windows Update is doing. The events are in the "System" log: You'll want to filter the list down to just WindowsUpdateClient, using the "Filter Current Log" button on the right.1 point -
