First time in my life, I purchased an iPhone!
Matthew S. and one other reacted to +Warwagon for a topic
For the first time in my life, not only have I purchased a brand new phone, I purchased an iPhone. The phone I decided on is the iPhone SE 2020 128gb. I went the route of the iPhone mainly for the 5+ years of support and security updates the phone will most likely receive. It has a smaller battery than the others, but I don't do a lot on my phone. I make phone calls, check Facebook here and there, send a text message or two and instant message with telegram or messenger. I hardly live on my phone. Give a desktop or laptop anyway of the week. The Small form factor sounded appealing, plus it's got the same CPU as the iPhone 11 (be it slightly underclocked). Wireless Charging will be nice too. I think another thing iOS does better than android, at least in my experience is timely notifications. Starting with Doze on Android, timely notifications in some apps has gotten really bad, even when I told android not to optimize X app for battery saving. In android you'd get the notification 30 mins after the fact... or X number of minutes after the fact, after turning your screen on. It's got the same camera as the iPhone 8 but I'm really impressed how you get better images from the same camera the 8 has sheerly by the image processing of the A13 Bionic chip. Included is a sample of the Front facing camera. So, let's see how it goes. waiting for the case to arrive before it gets full use. The last Android phone I had was Essentials Phone running LIneageOS 17.1. Then I purchased an iPhone 6 Plus for $20 to and put a new battery in it. I wanted to spend $20 and get a feel for and iPhone to see if I like it, instead of spending $450 and finding out I don't like it. So I used the iPhone for 1 week and I was ok with it. Once again I really do like the timely notifications. The rest of the phones i've had LG v20, Galaxy S7, LG g3, Galaxy S3 and before that it was an HTC incredible 2. All phone listed above, including the essentials phone have all been from eBay This is a sample of the front facing camera. As far as my case goes, i'm going with the same kind of case I got for my Iphone 6 Plus. It's a GREAT case, feels great in the hand AND has a built in screen protector that snaps in on top. iPhone 6 plus https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MOOFHQ2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 iPhone SE 2020 https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0876VFSBK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=12 points -

While that does suck, I honestly have no problem will installing another store on my PC, I don't see it as such a big deal like others who seem fixed on only using Steam and nothing else. I much like all the free games I've been getting from EGS, but if the price is right on Steam I'll get it from there instead. Or I'll sit and enjoy all the games I get through Game Pass on PC for €5 a month that I've been paying so far.2 points -

I think the biggest problem with android is despite its openness, it's practically useless for general public without google play services, which actually does the snooping. There needs to be a push for opensource alternative to google play(MicroG comes to mind) from OEMs, devs and public.1 point -

Microsoft releases Windows 10 build 19042.421 with a ton of new features
Brandon H reacted to samw61 for a topic
lol there are still some windows 3.1 icons and ui elements in 10 if you look in the right places. 10X I think is their solution to this; Windows is such a cluster at this point from them just building up and up on the same code base over the years so starting from scratch and moving elements back over to the new project is really the only for sure way to regain consistency at this point. Having proper containers for x86 programs will be nice anyway from a security standpoint. Once they're satisfied with the state of 10X they'll probably do another "timed" free upgrade like they did for 10 to switch over to it. I don't see in place upgrades working so everyone will probably have to clean install. I'm sure it could at least backup the user folders and such to a .old folder as usual still though. Agree with Win10X being the solution. They need to run it similar to how they did with the Microsoft Launcher app for android. I know it's significantly different, so maybe a 2 year testing phase alongside the existing Windows builds before it's ever thought to be released once it reaches some sort of feature parity. It's such a challenge without the compatibility layers though, or an established app catalogue. Hopefully soon it will just become the successor and offered as an actual Windows Update for version 2304 or something, but keeping the last legacy version in long term support, or even feature parity for the next few releases until there's no point. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses.1 point -

Isn't this tech new? Arm on PC? MS have been in the ARM space with Windows since Windows RT/Windows 8 which was a knee jerk reaction to the success of the iPad and it failed miserably. They have had years to get this right but have produced nothing that is successful. Now that Apple has announced ARM on the Mac I expect MS will be extra keen to make WoA a success somehow. I almost forgot about RT. Was that ARM? A real early iteration of it I expect. Thanks for the update.1 point -

Halo Infinite will be a platform that grows over time, no sequels planned
ZipZapRap reacted to Fleet Command for a topic
Video game as a platform, eh? This is a new language but the themes and motifs behind it are very familiar. It appears Halo Infinite intends to become, not a work of art called "video game", but a source of income that thrives on addicts who would continue to pay for new content. They will eventually see the futility of playing it when they realize that they were playing to end a conflict that is never-ending. But by then, Chris Lee has become a very rich man. There is a name for all of this too: Mobile games.1 point -

I mean, Microsoft cares more about Game Pass now, so it's all about the ecosystem. Hence why Halo and other first-parties are on PC as well. As it should be. It's "Facebook" for internal enterprise group before Teams was a thing. My organisation uses it, and while it has some benefits, it ends up being a "look how good our team is", usually posted by on the ground employees who rarely use computers, but who have been directed by their 2-up managers. But it really does have benefits for sharing information between work centres and my personal favourite, the photography group, is where the cool stuff happens! Yep, i agree with you about the look how good I am thing., one of the reason I don't use it. people post, I done this and that, how good am I as if the rest of us do nothing. So they are posting for doing their job. I said maybe I should take a photo of us unloading a lorry and put look at us unloading lorries so you have products here to do your job. Mafia: Definitive Edition gameplay revealed in a new 14-minute trailer
ThaCrip reacted to FunkyMike for a topic
There are a couple of things I did not like. First, reload and cover animations are waaaaay too fast, like slow them down to at least 1/4th and it will be sort of okay. The reload animation just seems reused from Mafia 3 Second, the "Reload early, lose rest of the mag" mechanic is missing, hopefully it is a difficulty setting. I totally agree with you on the 'reload early, lose rest of the mag' which ads to the tension and adds a bit more of a challenge (so you try to run your ammo as low as possible before reloading to keep ammo waste to a minimum). but I am confident it will be discarded even though that's one aspect I liked about the first game as the first game is more challenging than your typical shooter for sure. They would be stupid to discard this since Mafia 1 was one of the first games that implemented such feature.1 point -
Can't replace Laptop's RAM?
Steven P. reacted to Jose_49 for a topic
OMGGGGG!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! My spirit went back up!!! You nailed it!! That was it!! You HP Crimson monster 👹👿👺! It's my first time handling an HP device. It seems that all of the HP laptops are very cumbersome to open (HP WHY?!). You need to remove the rubber pads and then use a pry opening tool to open the freaking laptop! (I hate those because you have to be highly skilled not to screw the chasis, which, of course, I end up messing up a new computer). But to my surprise, the computer has 2 Memory Slots!, so I left the 4GB there and slapped the additional 8GB that I got (and now everything is working 🎉🎉🎉🎉) Dude, you really saved me 👍. Not even HP itself was able to pinpoint me in the right direction! This laptop is for a friend who has little money and entrusted me to get a decent machine. After seeing this at $264 I knew I couldn't be wrong. But when I saw that I couldn't open it... I felt disappointed as 4GB is a dead shot as Google Chrome hogs your RAM pretty easily. But oh boy Take a look at that 😊. Even the SSD is replaceable (NVMe)! I now know this lappy is going to withstand the test of time for at least a couple of years (Light tasks!).1 point -
