Microsoft's Surface Neo page no longer says it's coming this holiday season
ShahinD and one other reacted to DPBakerFWTX for a topic
They're still saying in the video it's "Coming Holidays 2020" with a disclaimer, "Pre-release product shown; actual product, software and features subject to change.", and I for one hope it gets it's release. Even if it only has Windows 10 as the OS, which has dual-screen capabilities and a number of other required features available, I'd hope the device itself lives up to the hype of it's potential as a Surface product.2 points -

Google to lay a new subsea cable connecting the US, UK and Spain
freedonX reacted to Astral for a topic
The outside diameter of the cable(s) is quite large, but will vary in size depending on the armoring, shielding, strength members, fibre counts and any additional wiring within it. The weight per meter is fairly heavy so the traditional method has been to roll off hundreds of meters of cable and allow it to sink to ocean floor. They will anchor the cable periodically to help it maintain its route and not become a casualty of ships. Because optical signals degrade like others (much less, of course), there are key points along the route that will have a form of repeater in-line that will help propagate the signal great distances. Typically, these repeaters are EDFA lasers meant to re-amplify the optical signal. The planning that goes into charting the best route, or path of least resistance is also critical to the cable(s) installation. Because we're talking about the Atlantic ocean here, the depths can be prohibitive, so they'd likely look to ocean-floor geography to keep the installation as consistent as possible throughout. That's not Neowin's fault, that's Mozilla's. Mozilla always pushes to the download servers first and delays the main page and in browser updater once a build is "finalized" and they send out notifications to people subscribed at that point; which includes our writer. Mozilla doesn't have a true RC process anymore and they basically use this time frame as that; hence why the build can still be pulled at this point before finishing the rollout ...1 point -

Unfortunately a lot of people "buying" these things are doing it through carriers or other loan-like things. I mean, it is a phone. If you can't afford it outright, buy something cheaper. This is not a flat or a car. I can afford to buy one outright, but I would not, at the end of the day, what is so special that makes it that price apart from it having the samsung name on it and i know some people seem to see Samsung like Apple. Sorry, but the majority of people who buy phones for this do so because it is like some sort of trophy as if people are really interested in what phone they have. I have a Huawei p10 lite and it cost me £200 3 years ago and it works great, it is pretty fast, have a good screen, for the price, take good photos, not great but good, but no phone is going to take great photos, some will take better ones, but not great as the sensor is far too small. My phone plays music and it browses the net and runs apps, also have NFC and all the other stuff most people need. Sure you pay a bit more and you get a better screen, maybe a bit larger, a faster processor and some other little things, but i think paying over £500 for a phone is going a bit far and that phone will still do what mine does. At the end of the day it is up to people what they spend their money on, I paid £400 on a coffee maker a few years back, people said I had more money than sense, but it makes good coffee, cheap ones don't. i pay extra if I think I am getting something for that extra bit of money I pay. You are right, people have these phones on a contract for a couple of years and then that phone is replaced and is either dumped in a drawer or go to landfill. It is time laws was made to force phone providers to take the old phones back. My Huawie hopefully will last for another couple of years at leats, if it last me 5 years I will have saved money as my sim only contract is a lot cheaper than having a phone contract. To be honest, if my Nexus 4 was still in fully working order I would still be using that. yeah you hit all the nails on the head. I prefer no contract at all, that's why I stick with no contract carriers like Metro by T-Mobile. I'm fine buying a phone outright every few years or so. The cheap service pays that back much quicker than "subsidizing". On that subject I hate the term "subsidizing"; maybe if they called it what it is, a Loan Contract, then people wouldn't be so gung ho about the system. If I can't do outright at the time I'll charge a phone to my credit card or split the payment and finance part or all of it on a simple loan program like Afirm.1 point -

they are there in hardware but they have yet to get approval from the government agencies as siad on Engadget site dfew months ago https://www.engadget.com/samsu...ecg-approval-174543781.html Samsung only expects to release the Health Monitor app for the Active 2 sometime during the third quarter of the year. It also can’t make the ECG feature available in other countries until it receives approval from relevant government agencies. You could be waiting a while longer to use the feature in your part of the world. Future Galaxy Watches will have the app as well,1 point -

uTorrent 3.5.5 Build 45724
aphanic reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
It's grown of course, the main executable has been UPX packed for a while, but it sits around the ~2 MB mark if I'm not mistaken. It's just that they now use some AdAware installer instead of their own so the actual uTorrent/BitTorrent executable is inside of it along with other stuff. Fair enough it's grown and I used to remember it growing by a few k every couple of version but from like 160k to 4.8megs, I suspect most of that is the installer and other fluff. One of the main reasons I used to use Utorrent in the past was because it was lean, light on resources and small compared to a lot of others at the time.1 point -

Google is working on a 'Read Later' feature for Chrome
ZipZapRap reacted to devHead for a topic
Hmm, looks pretty interesting. But what Google really needs to do with their browser is also enable an 'install later' feature for all other browsers when you log into their service from like Edge and you're prompted to install their POC browser. I'd like the option of not getting prompted until say, July of 2054. Can you do that Google?1 point -
Qualcomm announces Quick Charge 5 for 100W+ charging
Eric Biran reacted to RejZoR for a topic
USB-PD chargers are rare and expensive. You can get QC chargers literally everywhere. My bigger issue is the fact finding QC4 or QC4+ is almost impossible. We've had phones that support QC4 for ages, yet they were mostly shipping with QC3 chargers. And you can buy QC3 chargers all over the place for cheap. QC4, not so much. QC5 will be basically unobtainable. With this obsession with quick chargers, it would be nice if phones had user control over battery charging. Like deciding how far it should charge it (like only up to 80%). And you could pick what kind of charge you want when you plug it in. Like Night Charging so it optimizes charging as slow as possible to reach desired charge in the morning. Normal Charge to charge at lets say 1A when you're not in a rush, but can do charge in 2 hours or something like that. And Fast Charge that just charges as fast as it can.1 point -

IMO the alternative of having settings strewn across Control Panel (which is outdated and aged AF) and Settings is far worse. I do not agree with your sentiment, bring on the death of Control Panel. It does not have the same functionality as the control panel. If it did I wouldn't mind. Settings is not a suitable replacement for the control panel. They are still changing it to have such functionality. The thing is, you are complaining about them doing that. If there is anything to complain about, it’s that they haven’t finished it yet. When will we get this? 2050? Its been 7 years and settings is still useless as it was in Windows 8. Its not designed for mouse and keyboard usage. There is no way to open multiple instances. It sometimes crashes randomly with no error box to the reason why. Its slow at times to open up. I can tell the UI is having performance issues because sometimes it randomly shutters. Its frustrating to use! The whole setting UI is jam packed in a vertical column, so I have to scroll through a list of items with no visual order. The settings UI components are placed in random places, its flat, bland and one color. There is no grid for lists views and huge amount of functions are missing because of that. For example, changing views, sorting by, grouping by, and choosing column details, expanding columns. In apps & features, long titled programs are cut off, and the only way to see them is hovering my mouse over each item. In control panel applet, I can expand the name column to adjust the width. Even Linux environments have this. Its sad when open source desktop environments settings look and function better than a billion dollar company’s. Was settings made by employees on there free time? It doesn't feel like they put any effort into it. I would like if they gave us the option to use the old one without having to click links off the side of settings. It will be years until Microsoft makes settings is usable as control panel. A checkbox option “Use Control Panel Instead of Settings” would be nice.1 point -

I'm approaching 11 YEARS since my weight loss journey began! Don't let anyone tell you that losing weight is easy, it’s not. It takes effort and a lot of it! It’s MUCH easier to never put it on than it is to take it back off. Once you lose the weight, keeping it off is a lifelong commitment! One more thing. Never be ashamed of your fat pics! Don't hate them and never look at them ever again. Embrace them!! Use them as a reminder of someone you never want to be again.1 point -
