What a shock - an IT company that sells the most outrageously overpriced products in the universe, and has duped people into believing they are somehow worth it. Good grief, they have a monitor stand that costs $1,000.5 points -

OK... so back in the real world, the thing that really made it happen for iPhone was the release of iPhone SE 2020... which accounted for large chunk of iPhone sales. The phone which is an excellent value, BTW (seeing that you know it will be supported for at least 4 years). https://www.macrumors.com/2020...-sales-bright-spot-q2-2020/ . Add to that the last year's iPad which also starts at $330, the timing of Apple releasing lower cost products was just right. I have pretty high degree of confidence that $1000 stands are not where it's at.4 points -

Google Maps now reminds users in the U.S. to wear a mask before going out
Buttus and 2 others reacted to shockz for a topic
Dumb. Nobody is going to have their map app persuade them to wear a mask or not. If it was more a reminder like "don't forget to bring your mask", that'd be one thing, but "wear a mask, save lives". Yeah, people have basically already decided on how they feel about masks. A simple reminder would be silly too even, my mask never leaves my car. I don't need it when I'm home. And if I'm anywhere else, I'm wearing it.3 points -

Windows 10 is five years old - here's how it's evolved
rsnn and one other reacted to shockz for a topic
Windows 10 solidified my move away from Windows as my daily driver OS. I couldn’t deal with the inconsistencies, botched updates (both cumulative and feature), and constant beta testing feeling. As soon as they axed the majority of their QA in favor of agile and public betas, I knew the quality would tank. Other OSes also follow the agile model, but have a far better track record for consistency. Windows 10 may be better in its development cycle now, but I’ve already left and see no incentive to come back.2 points -

Well said. This is to be expected when young kids are let loose without mature supervision having actual worldly experience, coupled with minimal testing before being unleashed to an unsuspecting world. MS should not have been so hasty to "kill" Windows-7 until they had a truly worthy successor. (Yes, businesses got a multiple year reprieve, but what about individual users for whom Windows-7 is a much more suitable OS?)2 points -

Hi, In case you're interested in new cursors for Windows or macOS you can check out my DeviantArt account here for a set called Luxus 3 External link to my DeviantArt account macOS cursors are in my gallery there too should you want. I've gotten a request to look into making the cursors(main arrow) a bit smaller. I await response on that elsewhere.. Is that the desire here also? it's only a couple of pixels height and width wise. Look at the attached images and comment 😄 Also, if you want to try these and don't want or have a DeviantArt account, you can download them out from my Jumpshare account here (Windows only) External link to Jumpshare -Allan1 point -

Google's basically stopped user-facing feature updates to Android native apps.(most feature updates now are just a couple of basic fine tuning security, supporting new tech, and under-the-hood improvements), and are trying to push their own Google Play services and Google Apps. The native apps(camera, browser, files, etc.) are pretty much all but useless, and this in turns makes Android without Google or proprietary OEM softwarebarely useable. There are fantastic FOSS apps out there(hosted on f-droid) like opencamera which can easily replace them - i don't understand why they don't make it native/part of the OS. We need a company like Red Hat or Groups like KDE to bring Community control over Android.1 point -
New BootHole flaw in Secure Boot affects a huge number of Linux and Windows systems
Fleet Command reacted to derpityderp for a topic
That still puts you at risk. Secure Boot offers protection from unauthorized changes at boot level and this attack compromises its security, meaning you're left with the same level of protection you'd have without Secure Boot enabled (not worse than that). It would practically be a little better with Secure Boot turned on because one would still need to exploit this vulnerability to get through, which is a possible but not trivial task.1 point -

Google One app now includes free phone backups, and heads to iOS
tsupersonic reacted to Slackerr for a topic
Two things: 1) Apple's free storage tier is 5 GB, while Google's free tier is 15 GB. I wish Apple offered a bit more for their free tier. 2) I have much more faith/better experience in the backup/restore process from Apple. I've had less than stellar experience with Android's backup/restore, where certain apps don't restore at all (it's a surprise if an app restore properly). 5 GB is worse but the backup/restore works perfectly as intended, unlike the Android one. Honestly, I'd rather pay a bit for convenience.1 point -

I picked up a 950 to use to replace my 640 for note taking on the go. The keyboard on Windows Mobile was amazing and nothing can really compare to it. The best part of WP IMO was its Driving Mode. I love how it would automatically switch on when paired with your car radio and automatically read texts and such allowing you to reply via voice completely hands free. Even today I haven't seen a native or 3rd party Car Mode on either Android or iOS that works as seamlessly for this portion.1 point -
