  3. Apple confirms it will miss September launch for new iPhones

Lost or just delayed? This is a delay of a few weeks. If anyone wants the product enough, a delay of a few weeks is no big deal.

  4. I still think that Apple's shares are going to go higher. The ARM movement is no joke and I think they will be cooking up some interesting devices that will even catch non-Mac users attention.

  5. OK... so back in the real world, the thing that really made it happen for iPhone was the release of iPhone SE 2020... which accounted for large chunk of iPhone sales. The phone which is an excellent value, BTW (seeing that you know it will be supported for at least 4 years). https://www.macrumors.com/2020...-sales-bright-spot-q2-2020/ . Add to that the last year's iPad which also starts at $330, the timing of Apple releasing lower cost products was just right. I have pretty high degree of confidence that $1000 stands are not where it's at.

  9. They should have kept Cortana. Seriously, not many people use it, and created a Cortana Analytics. Because 5 years from now, when computers are voice driven, microsoft will have once again missed the boat.

  10. I wouldn't credit Mary-Jo for a tip-off --- I received the email directly from Microsoft this morning, and it's been talked about (w/o leaking to the press) for quite a while. Either way, they're trying to gradually transition Cortana (the voice assistant) to Cortana (the data analytics engine used to drive the VA and other non-voice services).

  11. As I highlighted in my comment above Apple has a number reasonably and competitively priced products; including products like the iPads (especially the entry level models) and entry level iPhones (SE, XR, 11) as well as Apple Watch and Air Pods. These high volume products (particularly the iPhone SE) are the driving force behind their results. As for slave/exploited labor, that is a systemic problem hardly unique to Apple that need to be addressed at a systematic level. Whatever product you used to type that comment is likely to either be outright assembled in or at least have components manufactured in factories where cheap labour is exploited.

  12. Its got nothing to do with their success, and everything to do with the way they harvest data on every aspect of their user's lives to target advertising at them, and also sell that data to third parties. Their "Don't be evil" motto is somewhat torn to shreds by now.

  15. Microsoft xCloud on PC?

I believe it will be released sometime in September: https://www.techradar.com/news/project-xcloud-everything-we-know-about-microsofts-cloud-streaming-service Also it will require Xbox Game Pass Ultimate And I could be wrong but I think it will use the following client: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/apps/xbox-app-for-windows-10 And game streaming should allow for gaming anywhere, anytime. With or without access to your physical xbox or gaming pc.

  17. 10900k delid + copper IHS installation

Here I begin to prep the copper IHS I applied a small layer of clear nail polish to the test pads on the CPU pcb to ensure there would not be a short if the liquid metal happened to overflow when the IHS was installed. You can use this, or thermal paste, liquid tape, electrical tape, etc. I did not capture the liquid metal application unfortunately, but I spread a small thin layer on the die and onto the bottom of the IHS. Afterwards I used the locktite(you can use silicon, some dont use anything at all, i prefer locktite because it shrinks when cured) on the for corners of the IHS, and set the entire cpu back into the dlid tool, with the relid guide installed for 10th gen cpus. The final product I did clean the IHS before applying my thermal compound. In my initial testing, temperatures across the cores are now in line with one another, the difference between them is now 1-3C. I will apply my overclock again later this evening and test that, however, I don’t expect the overclock to improve but the temps might be lower and more consistent across the cores. Ill update back when I have conclusive numbers, but so far so good.

  19. LOL, Oppo's OnePlus does it again. I remember when you had to fight tooth and nail to get an "invite" just to buy the OnePlus One. About a month later, people started noticing a yellow tint to the screen. Oppo's OnePlus said no, there wasn't an issue, it was because we changed the default screen to a more warmer color. Then, various people actually figured out there was indeed a yellow tint, because in the rush to manufacturer, Oppo's supplier of the screen, rushed the screen and didn't allow it to cure properly. Here's how you treat the issue, if you want to buy an Oppo OnePlus phone. WAIT about a month, after it hits the market...by then, the first batch has gone out, and hopefully most of the first round bugs are gone. Or do like I do, wait until a new model is released, then pick up last years model at a greatly reduced price.

  20. Worth it to people who value different things than you, like privacy, security, build quality, integration with other devices, etc. You look like a fool when you act like your way of thinking is the only way, which kinda indicates that your real beef is that you can’t afford Apple stuff. You really know nothing about me, but I can always be sure that the Apple apologists will come out and bash my opinions to defend this miserable company. I own multiple Apple products, including 2 of the new iPads. They are great products to be sure. I have an older iPad Air (1st gen) that works great still. Everything I state is simply my opinion in every single post. How does a monitor stand that cost $1,000 somehow value your privacy? Give me a break. Their products aren't super expensive because they value your security or privacy, bro. They are super expensive because they can fool people into thinking they're worth it.

I think we're going to find out more in August, just have to sit tight.

  23. no way, UWP are the bests I really hope you are joking here. nope, for example you're free to use Postman that use electron and 500mb of ram I use nightingale(UWP of course) to do the exactly same things and use 50mb of ram I love Nightingale, but its lacking in features compared to Postman. I still use Nightingale when in Windows though. what kind of features exactly? it's fine for my use .. I can redirect it to the dev, or you can do it by yourself on github or twitter And what does a development API have anything to do with UWP? You do realize there are Electron apps in the Store, right? Doesn't change the fact that UWP is a POS that needs to get axed ASAP It’s not an API....LOL. Just stop, this is clearly a subject you are ill-prepared to discuss.

I created a virtual machine to verify this, and I did not see any Cortana voice assistance. Still, here is what Microsoft says: It appears this is part of their assistive technology initiative. Some people have disabilities, you know.

  27. Pretty much everything is now known about the Surface Duo

Duo is a phone, I've not heard it being advertised in any other way. If they removed the ability to make calls, the Duo would be DOA. it makes no sense as a phone IMO anyway as there's no outside display, speaker, or mic. I'd imagine it would be awkward to take a call with the thing having to be open. It's shown in this video. You open the phone and fold it backwards, which shuts off the rear display. Operation looks fine to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU78s9ExFFA Completely opposite for me : having to open the phone just to see who is calling, or coming appointments is awkward and inconvenient IMO; and you also need to hands to do it. Furthermore what is even more ironic is that this is from the company that developed the Sideshow technology. There is a peek feature, but I do agree an external display would have been nice. The Andromeda concept this is born from had a thin monochrome display on the hinge for basic status details, do wish they had kept that. Yes that's all it really needed. A thin AMOLED strip on one of the edges with notification counts. Or a set of LEDs under the plastic. But all V1 devices have issues & flaws. If the Duo lives past first generation we could see some small QoL improvements. I don't think durable folding screens will be a thing for many years so the concept is still viable. So I actually like the dual screen concept, I have used widescreen monitors and I do find dual more useful. The use case of say onenote and edge or even maps and Citymapper seems like it would make sense, i'll need to get hands on, but right now it feels like this form factor would be a good one.

  31. Huawei FreeBuds 3i with active noise cancellation launched in India

Are you kidding? Sure they will get attention from reviewers. Not everyone wants nor can afford AirPods. Not from serious reviewers, I bought enough crap recommended by so called reviewers that I know better than to trust just anyone. It's your choice, do what you want, but you get what you pay for. After I bought the AirPods pro for around 200$ I can honestly say they're worth every penny. Unlike most of the headphones I bought along the way, which, if I didn't cheap out and buy, I would probably have 3 pairs of airpods right now.

  32. Alphabet announces its second quarter earnings with $38.3B in revenue

lol no they wont kill cloud. google cloud is one of the fastest growing business for google. they are growing at a 43% rate. it was just 2.5 billion last Q and now they are 3 billion. and no you cant compare oracle cloud because their 6 billion is including licensing support which is the majority of the revenue and their oracle pure cloud revenue is way lower than any cloud revenue. again amazon just this Q hit 10.8 billion aws revenue so i dont know where you are getting 20 billion. you seem to be completely wrong about everything https://venturebeat.com/2020/07/30/amazon-earnings-q2-2020/

  34. AMD should start work to compete in this space. It's going to be pretty interesting. I think that AMD and x86 will still overpower ARM, but when it comes to heat management and power efficiency, things are going to be very different. Even in servers, which you need to have cooled rooms, this could potentially mean that using ARM processors could present huge savings in electricity bills and overall performance.

  40. Pretty much everything is now known about the Surface Duo

Very unlikely. The Kin died because it was essentially useless outside its very limited "social media" scope. It was a feature phone with some social apps brought to the forefront. I'm just waiting for the Duo price announcement, but it will most likely be my next device. I know two other people who are also just waiting for the cost. More thanks to Verizon absurd plans pricing...

  45. Dumb. Nobody is going to have their map app persuade them to wear a mask or not. If it was more a reminder like "don't forget to bring your mask", that'd be one thing, but "wear a mask, save lives". Yeah, people have basically already decided on how they feel about masks. A simple reminder would be silly too even, my mask never leaves my car. I don't need it when I'm home. And if I'm anywhere else, I'm wearing it.
