same here, i hate fact that in the new start menu, you can't even right click to get to stuff like properties, or delete (a folder) or open folder. Uhm... You can. nope, properties nowhere to be find. right clicking on folder, does nothing, can't delete left over folders in start menu correction: only one there is open file location, under more. Here's how to delete stuff from the Start menu. Open File Explorer. Make sure hidden and system files are visible. Go to Program Data; Microsoft; Windows; Start Menu; Programs. Delete what you don't want to see in the Start Menu. Yeah, I’m gonna go out on a limb here and suggest your missing his point.4 points -

A nice Alphabetical App list would be great. That's probably coming in iOS 20. It is already in the iOS 14 beta. Those are just app catagory groups. it's one extra step but if you click the search bar at the top it shows in alphabetical. maybe they'll just have a toggle to switch between categories and alphabetical by the time iOS 14 reaches final if enough people ask for it though.2 points -

It's completely different from Nokia. Nokia stopped being a major smartphone player before Microsoft ever got involved. Microsoft didnt have anyone to build phones so they decided to get in by buying Nokia. But selling hardware is an awful business. The R&D cost is very high, the profit margin is very low, etc. But tiktok is a software cloud business. Mine craft and LinkedIn have been great generators with minimal expenditures.2 points -

That's limiting yourself to a very narrow viewpoint. Here are all the Microsoft acquisitions recently : https://www.microsoft.com/en-u...or/acquisition-history.aspx ... so for example, do you really think that Mojang sold Office 365 subscriptions? And not everything needs to fit a current mindset. Apple made a phone in 2007, when they were not even involved in that business at all. They were laughed at, now look at them. Tiktok is a "market disruptor" application, a social media phenomenon right now. It is cheap and easy low hanging fruit.2 points -

Twitter seems to be surveying users about potential features for its subscription model
+hedleigh reacted to shockz for a topic
Crap is right. If they wanted to have set up a reputable pay site for use by famous people, politicians, corporations, PR, etc., they shouldn't have let Twitter become the Internet's toilet bowl. From President Full Retard's daily vomit to the right wing fascist, racist, and anti-science kooks, Twitter isn't even worth installing for free. "From President Full Retard's daily vomit to the right wing fascist, racist, and anti-science kooks, Twitter isn't even worth installing for free." But at least us republicans don't oppose the truth (i.e. Christianity) like the godless/radical left routinely does and it's obvious which political party falls inline with this verse from the bible... "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter." - Isaiah 5 : 20 that becomes more true the more radical the left gets as the more radical they get the more hostile they become to Christianity and anyone who opposes Christianity, and it's moral truth, is simply the villain. anyone who can see through the lens of Christianity knows the left are the villains with abortion being a very basic test of ones morality (falls inline with that Isaiah 5 : 20 bible verse about where they sugar-coat a immoral act under the guise of a "choice" in a attempt to make a intrinsically evil act look good) as if someone fails to get that one right they tend to be backwards in many other moral areas and that's what's happening on the left as the years/decades pass. you know the left is heading towards insanity when they question basic male/female nature. it's like they question everything and believe in nothing and end up accepting everything besides the truth of Jesus Christ. but it's not surprising as it's obvious many on the left in positions of power hate Jesus Christ and use their power to advance what's bad and oppose the good. also, the godless left limits how many can attend church services, which are essential for anyone who can see beyond the here and now (i.e. a persons soul is more important than ones body in the big picture), but have no problems with the "protesters" (i.e. rioters) gathering in groups and other stuff that's not nearly as important in the big picture etc. I am not saying the average democrat is that that bad but it's obvious the radicals have pretty much taken over the democrat party and that's bad for society in the long term as they are headed towards socialism/communism (which many Popes condemned through the ages) and the like which is anti-USA. but many are blind nowadays and can't see what's really going on as it's no longer about petty political differences of the past but it's becoming more of a battle of good vs evil and many just go with the flow of a immoral word thinking whatever is popular is good and whatever opposes that is automatically bad and must be censored/destroyed etc. How the ###### are you even taking about this in a thread about a subscription model... not to mention it’s a complete nonsense stance. You are full on brainwashed. It’s truly terrifying their are grown adults who think like you.1 point -

Misfit's Wear OS smartwatches are on sale for only $14.99; no really, that's not a typo
Brandon H reacted to dustojnikhummer for a topic
how can they even justify not including a charger? it's not like these can use a standard micro usb cable or anything; it's a custom magnetic charger ... Are you kidding? Its $15. You can get the Misfit Vapor X for $40 with charger and band which is still a great deal. it's the principle of the matter. Who's going to buy a device they can't charge? If the cord is proprietary it should be included. Not including the power brick is one thing (like Apple is doing) but not including an, again, proprietary cord is just scummy business practice that's bound to push potential customers away if they read and ###### off those that don't notice until they receive the product ... People who want a smartwatch for $15 and can figure out how to buy a charger on Amazon or eBay. Dude, they are dumping their inventory and for almost nothing. The Apple situation would be much worse... It would be a $1000 new model phone but they are to cheap to give you a charger. Except Apple will give you the cable, not the brick, something I still don't like but it kinda makes sense it makes no sense for any phone let alone $1000 one. I don't understand why people defend this. I'm not defending this. Yes, Apple should absolutely ship a fast charger with their 1k+ phones, hell, Xiaomi can do that with 200Euro phones. But my point is what Apple is talking about. Most people already have at least one power brick and instead of giving you a ###### one you either throw out or put in a drawer (e-waste in both cases), just don't give one at all. You still get the more important thing you need, the USB cable.1 point -

From their blog, it reads like they added a “search for this on the internet” button rather than a “fake news spotter”. I prefer that to them sending off the contents of the message to Facebook, thus breaking the end-to-end encryption, and alerting you when they deem fit.1 point -

+DonC reacted to Brandon H for a topic
How does any Microsoft acquisition help M$. Seriously look back and try to remember a buy that was not eventually a failure. Frankly I'm worried for GitHub. Minecraft .... yep that's the only one I can think of that hasn't become a failure. Mostly because they left Mojang mostly intact to do their own thing still. edit: they're doing the same thing with GitHub that they did with Minecraft; which is to say mostly leaving it alone and just providing some funding to help out so I don't see GitHub going anywhere.1 point -

Microsoft could acquire TikTok's U.S. operations
waysidesc reacted to n_K for a topic
Wow, you make them sound almost as bad as ATT, BSD, or Google. Everyone forgets the darlings of *nix and the OSS movement provided backdoor keys to everything in the 80s and 90s, to where we are still finding holes left wide open intentionally. To this day MS encryption technologies like bitlocker was only ever compromised by the NSA circumventing the TPM silicon and one or two brute force cases that got lucky. The DoD still specifically uses Bitlocker as it keeps other agencies eyes out of their systems, it was after learning the extent of the NSA and FBI's capabilities that they made this decision and phased out various systems running MacOS, ChromeOS, Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD - because the NSA had several backdoor access mechanisms - many built into the OSes on purpose. I don't particularity trust the DoD, but I do trust they are paranoid and highly security conscious. The NSA or CIA backdoor in BSD sockets or the IP stack or whatever has never to this day had a single ray of evidence pointed at it, so unless you have proof of that, no.1 point -
Want to invest in a home server..ideas/suggestions/recommendations?
The Dark Knight reacted to +BudMan for a topic
And what is the make and model of this box? Other than storage issue, what is it not doing that you "need" it to do? I can serve up file and media with a 35$ pi... There is nothing saying that it needs to be latest gen I9 16 core with 128GB of ram to do what you have mentioned. A lot of people spend a lot of money on hardware that just sits there and sucks juice (that they pay for).. What is your local network speed, what size files are you moving about. Seems more like you want suggestions of some new toy, but really have no actual requirements.. Is this media server actually going to serve up the media, or is just files.. Ie do you want this server to run plex? Or some other media server? As to mostly paying for the software it comes with.. Ok you build this box, what OS do you plan on running on it? freenas, OMV, whitebox DSM? Or windows, you going to just put some linux distro on it? Do you know linux? What free os are you planning on using if you don't want to pay for OS in any way. Kind of good info to know when picking out hardware to make sure whatever you picking works good on that hardware and has drivers for the components, etc. But yeah part of the nas package is paying for the OS. But again you have stated nothing that couldn't be done with a pi.. So why are you paying for hardware even? Does this box need to be able to transcode 4k, hdr, what? Why don't you just have your friend help you spend your 1k$ He seems brilliant when it comes to technology1 point -

Google preparing to drop Pixel 2 support after Android 11 update
Brandon H reacted to +Warwagon for a topic
3 Years of updates. Sad. iPhone 6s Plus is going on 5 years. One reason why, for the first time ever, I got an iPhone (SE 2020). Google has no excuse. They only have a handful of phones to support while people like Samsung have TONS of different phones to support, I still don't give them a pass either as they did this to themselves. If you exclude the XL's from the list as they are just bigger versions, Google only has 4 phones to support.1 point -
AdDuplex: The year-old Windows 10 version 1903 is still the most popular
matthiew reacted to dustojnikhummer for a topic
Right, but I've been on 2004 for around a week now without a issue, I'd say it's pretty stable and reliable for me. This on my gaming desktop, which was on 1909 before. Just updated my work pc to 2004. No issues here either. Windows users are a lot like android users in this respect. Average people don't know to upgrade or update. Its treated about the same as a TV remote. If it provides the requirements they needed when they got the device, its not a thing on their radar. The only people making a federal case or drawing some inference about some ineptitude on the part of Microsoft are tech bloggers. And this is exactly why MS is pushing Windows Update without giving easy control to anyone.1 point -

Apple reportedly favored Amazon with lower App Store rates for Prime Video
300z reacted to George P for a topic
And why so? Do you really believe that other companies do not do the same? Do you think that if you negotiate to buy 100 office 365 licenses you will be able to get the same deal of someone else buying 10,000 licenses? If you re-read my post you'd notice at the end I said "all of them", I'm not singling out anyone. But since you want to bring MS into this, your example isn't the same. You're buying from MS directly, it's a 1 to 1 sale. The App store cut is Apple being the man in the middle. Customer is paying amazon for a sub, and Apple gets a cut. There's no 3rd person getting a cut of your Office 365 licenses. While I understand what you're trying to say you're example doesn't match up with the topic at hand.1 point -
