  1. Microsoft commits to being a zero-waste company by 2030

This is just a pipe dream. Look at how many projects MS throws in the garbage each year.

  3. I really hope some of the open lawsuits win out. Apple is officially being TOO strict with their restrictions on the platform and demanding their cut on things purchased through apps. There is no reason we shouldn't be able to buy Steam/Stadia/xCloud games through their respective apps and there's no reason we shouldn't be allowed to stream the games from these platforms.

  4. I think notification spam on Android is becoming a serious problem, some companies don't even bother labeling notification categories and split them off so as to give a confusing number of notification events https://www.neowin.net/forum/t...n-spam-like-on-your-iphone/

  6. Saw this on the news this morning, really sad at the loss of life but it was not a terrorist incident and of course the idiot President in the US immediately said his generals told him it was a bomb, meanwhile the actual cause was already known yesterday: The ammonium nitrate was seized off a ship in 2013 and stored unsafely for all that time, so it basically was an accident waiting to happen. 8. It's not overpriced for a machine that makes no noise. All Windows AIO PCs are hideous looking + noisy AF. And where have you come up with this BS? iMacs are quite because they have inadequate cooling and they turn off their fan way too late, which just causes more CPU throttling than necessary. It's called an opinion and everyone has them. I agree with Alan, Im writing this on a new replacement 27 inch iMac I picked up last week. To me its worth every cent. I'm really surprised to hear this from an apple fan /s

  21. SpaceX Super Heavy and Starship updates

That was SO cool! And I concur, changes are afoot. MANY changes ... I bet the new 2.0 landing legs are gonna be beefy. My guess is SN-10 gets those along with "full dress" and the three engine test. Internally I expect the plumbing will most likely see changes by then too (re-routes/improved design flow as they get things sorted out when space will be at a premium later on). Always a moving target, SpaceX.

  25. And... for those that don't like it, and want to go back. Put a - sign in front of the HKEY in the registry entry you made and run it again. So this: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ Looks like this: [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ That will remove the entry. Restart the system to make the changes.

  28. Beta 4 is solid for me, no issues here 11.0 Beta Build (20A5343i) MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) MacOS is better this week, but still glitchy for me, typical beta. Increase in app crashes, and a bit more freezing. Mac Mini 2018 The iOS 14 beta on the other hand. Yeah, that’s a ###### show this time around. iPhone 11 Pro Max.

  29. "Microsoft has moved the 3D Viewer app into the Windows Accessories folder on the All Apps list in the Start menu." I wonder how many meetings that took to make this move Sometimes when I read these fixes, I wonder who in the world are these users that come across these problems... I must be a beginner user who just learned to click the mouse button.

  30. Just my opinion. Depending on what caused the fire to begin with, materials could have been set on fire purposely acting like a fuse to ignite the ammonium nitrate. If someone wanted to cause destruction in that area, 99 percent of the work is already done. Beirut has had their fair share of attacks over the years. Hopefully not a purposeful act as the world does not need another disaster like this. Anyway, the ammonium nitrate should have been disposed of a long time ago and this could have been prevented. List of attacks in Lebanon https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_attacks_in_Lebanon Lebanon has a history of bomb incidents. So why make a bomb when the majority of the work is done for you. Just need a way to ignite it. Again, hopefully this is not the case where someone did this intentionally.

  35. HA, not even on that level. IE survived so long primarily because of intranet sites latching onto ActiveX for so long for business tools. Safari just has the usual Apple fans that praise everything 1st party. and people that just use what's there without question.

  36. Dopamine

I don't know. The reason why it's not yet supported is that it is very hard to implement. Gapless playback stems from the time of records, which are gapless by design due to the music being recorded one an uninterrupted track. Audio files are separate entities (honestly, why on earth are gapless records ripped as separate files in the first place?). Getting them to play gapless, is not trivial. A music player needs to load a file in order to play it, and that comes with, at least, some milliseconds of delay. This delay is noticeable between 2 tracks (unloading the previous one, and loading the next one). Gapless playback of files requires this: Play a file Load the next file in memory before the previous file has finished playing Just before (good luck getting this timing right) the previous file is finished playing: Shortly fade out the previous file Start the next file and shortly fade it in (not too long! The user may cannot notice we are fading! This is not a cross-fading plugin!). IMPORTANT: do a rain dance, jump 10 times up and down, avoid all black cats, Friday the 13th's and walking under ladders (for those that believe in this crazy stuff, I don't care, and tempt fate every time I can), and hope that the user didn't hear that click or pop between the 2 files (which the player tries to mask by doing the fancy fade out/fade in trick). Dopamine 2 will never support it, as the audio engine doesn't have such possibility built-in. And I'll never get all this madness right by adding workarounds around the engine. Dopamine 3? Maybe, maybe not. I haven't reached audio engine testing with it yet.

  37. Adam: what is notification spam like on your iPhone?

I know I'm not @warwagon, but I've used both ecosystems since they were released to public. iPhone notification spam is non-existent. I can test a particular app for you if you'd like, but none that I'm using is annoying in the slightest. I get only opt-in notifications (you're prompted when an app wants permission to send them) for things like new emails, breaking news and such.

  46. The case for biannual Windows 10 feature updates

Article fails to factor in cumulative updates. Broken feature updates can be fixed with a cumulative update, sometimes within weeks. There's no reason to wait until the end of the year to fix a build. The (supposed) purpose of a feature update is to add new features, not fix old builds. If Microsoft is dry on ideas, then I'm fine with one feature update a year. There's plenty of inbox apps that are way overdue for a refresh. Plus the Windows UI still has some inconsistency that needs to be ironed out. So Microsoft has plenty to work on besides adding new "stuff" to Windows.
