I really hope some of the open lawsuits win out. Apple is officially being TOO strict with their restrictions on the platform and demanding their cut on things purchased through apps. There is no reason we shouldn't be able to buy Steam/Stadia/xCloud games through their respective apps and there's no reason we shouldn't be allowed to stream the games from these platforms.3 points -

I think notification spam on Android is becoming a serious problem, some companies don't even bother labeling notification categories and split them off so as to give a confusing number of notification events https://www.neowin.net/forum/t...n-spam-like-on-your-iphone/3 points -

Saw this on the news this morning, really sad at the loss of life but it was not a terrorist incident and of course the idiot President in the US immediately said his generals told him it was a bomb, meanwhile the actual cause was already known yesterday: The ammonium nitrate was seized off a ship in 2013 and stored unsafely for all that time, so it basically was an accident waiting to happen. It's not overpriced for a machine that makes no noise. All Windows AIO PCs are hideous looking + noisy AF. And where have you come up with this BS? iMacs are quite because they have inadequate cooling and they turn off their fan way too late, which just causes more CPU throttling than necessary. It's called an opinion and everyone has them. I agree with Alan, Im writing this on a new replacement 27 inch iMac I picked up last week. To me its worth every cent. I'm really surprised to hear this from an apple fan /s3 points -

Internally I expect the plumbing will most likely see changes by then too (re-routes/improved design flow as they get things sorted out when space will be at a premium later on). I don't think they are in a rush to release it and honestly, from what I've seen of it from both AMD and Nvidia, it seems quite hit or miss where it still needs a bit more work. Microsoft have said they are going to keep working on it in Windows so it will likely get better in time.1 point -

ajjmin reacted to +Raphaël G. for a topic
They are 2 different things. But gapless requires short crossfading to mask the click or pop that can occur when switching tracks. Closing and reopening the audio device can cause this, and even if the player would play the files directly after each other, without crossfading, users won't be happy, as they would still hear a click between tracks. Quite some trickery is required to have a perfect illusion of gapless. That is why gapless is never the first feature a player supports. I honestly find it annoying. Annoying that we need so much effort and trickery to get around the fact that the format (files) is being misused and that a feature of a totally different format is expected. It's like when switching from horses to cars, the car drivers would expect car makers to make cars jump up and down to simulate the horse's walk on pavement.1 point -

macOS 11 Big Sur beta 4 adds support for 4K on YouTube and HDR video in Safari
adrynalyne reacted to Brandon H for a topic
Safari consumes a lot less power than other browsers on macOS resulting in better batter life on laptops. Also it has built in anti tracking features that other browsers do not have yet. Like what? Also I see negligible battery differences between Safari and Edge. Memory usage isn’t a battery killer, CPU and GPU usage is. https://www.neowin.net/news/go...y-usage-improvements/" rel="">https://www.neowin.net/news/go...attery-usage-improvements/" rel="">https://www.neowin.net/news/go...battery-usage-improvements/ Not seeing the relation. I said Edge. Everyone knows Chrome kills battery. Edge or Edge Chromium? Legacy Edge isn't on Mac so of course he's probably referring to the new Chromium based one. Even being Chromium based Microsoft has done a lot better job at optimizing than google has on the Chrome side.1 point -
Share your 48-hour Xbox Live trial
Brandon H reacted to George P for a topic
Well, the way things are going this thread might get locked in the future anyways, valid posts or not, because the evidence that Live is going away keeps mounting. The MS lawyers have started editing service agreements and are removing the "Live" wording from them. Speculation is high that Gold is going away but I think Live itself is changing, out of necessity really. You can't have the same first party games, like Halo Infinite for example, releasing day and date on console and PC and have cross-play between them for but charge console players to play MP and have it free for PC players. It'll be interesting to see what they do, I think September, when xCloud goes live, we'll know for sure.1 point -

I wouldn't be that bothered if it wasn't for the fact I need to pay for features in YTM that I enjoyed for free on GPM. Simple things like playing in the background and casting your music to compatible device (surely these shouldn't be "premium" features). Plus buying music seems to be going away too? as they seem to be pushing the subscription model very hard. I was quite happy with how things were with GPM and don't appreciate basically being forced to subscribe just to enjoy things I enjoy now for free1 point -
