  1. So by that logic, NetFlix must have submitted all its thousands of shows and movies for inspection as well before it was allowed to stream on its platform. Ridiculous.

  3. Warning: political. The president has a bone to pick with the highly motivated youth. So this app is banned for capturing "vast swaths of data". I suppose "many many people" told him this, right? This "vast swaths of data" includes what you type (while in the app), what you tap (while in the app), information about the device (make/model of device, time zone, resolution, OS, and application file names/types), your contacts (with your permission), and what you are actually interested in - what videos you watch. In the app. I challenge anyone to say that this isn't directed as retaliatory action against these apps for the Tampa rally fiasco, where these apps were presumptively used to make the organizers believe more people were going to attend than actually did. Because there are quite a few applications that do similar things that are not owned by US companies. And yes, before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, there are obviously the people who think giving away any information is bad. Well, that's a philosophical argument which I won't deny, but the point here is that there are lots of apps from all over the world that do the same things, but they're not hurting the US President's rally numbers, so they're not getting executive orders. So, there's that...

  4. Node names don't really mean anything. Intel's 10nm is in the same ballpark as TSMC's 7nm: https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/7_nm_lithography_process The problem is, their 10nm node, so far, has also been having problems and not reaching the performance/power level required for high-performing desktop parts. Their only hope at this point is that the upcoming 10nm++ actually works as it should.

  9. Apple digging themselves a deeper grave. They're going to get hit hard by at least one of the open class-action lawsuits for these anti-competitive practices and will have to change their policy to allow these services sooner or later.

  11. Open source Chromium browser shows up on the Microsoft Store

The concern, who is compiling the code, are they altering it, etc. Nothing wrong with open source, but when someone starts distributing it, you have to know a bit about the group that's compiling and distributing it, if it's not the primary maintainers themselves.

  12. Just like you can't have anyone else taxing your people, only the NSA/FBI/CIA are allowed to spy on Americans, and Chinese firms aren't allowing that (same as 5G). Won't be long til Americans wake up with no electricity/water/phone/internet/television/food or money, AND it'll all be China's fault (according to Trump). Go Trump!

  16. And Hulu. And Disney+. Apple's thing. Spotify. Apple Music. How about every news organization? That sounds like a lot of content Apple hasn't scrapped over to make sure they approve. You definitely can't let YouTube on there. Heck, how dare you have a browser. You are opening up your users to SO MUCH content you didn't approve first! What are you thinking?!

  21. The order claims that TikTok "captures vast swaths of information from its users, including Internet and other network activity information such as location data and browsing, and search histories." Sooo.... He's okay with an American company like Google being able to basically know everything possible to know about you (not to mention the FBI, CIA, NSA, etc), but OTHER countries and intelligence agencies.... THAT is where he draws the line... *rolls eyes* Such hypocrisy.

  29. I'm pretty sure AMD wouldn't even look at this. Reminds me of that story about Coca-Cola's recipe being stolen, attempted to be sold to Pepsi. I believe Pepsi just turned them in because why tf would they want Coca-Cola's recipe when their business is made from of NOT being Coke? So yeah, I have doubts of any eagerness for AMD who's already doing a great job in the space to put themselves in such a predicament anyway when it'd be questionable what they might even gain.

  35. Google being Google in terms of shutting down its services. I hate this decision. This is how I'm informed about new videos. I much prefer to get an e-mail notification. I don't like the subscriptions page, I don't like to use the "watch later" feature. I like the e-mails because it serves as a text list of videos I still want to see. If I don't care about a certain video, I just delete the mail immediately. I have videos that were published back in May that I still want to see and I don't want to forget that I want to see them. The e-mails help reminding me of those videos.

  36. TikTok shocked at Trump's executive order, threatens legal action

No need just yet, not with an election year in the US and how things could change after that, China will likely just wait it out till then and if nothing changes, I suspect China will get a lot tougher on US companies. This could be very costly to both countries if they are not careful.

The right call in a free democratic country would be to prevent high ranking government officials from using it and let the population decided if they want to use it or not. I question whatever USA is still that type of country though. You have a president talking about delaying an election for no reason ...

App store guidelines are getting ridiculous. I get they need to make their money but I'm developing a cross platform mobile SaaS app and am becoming increasingly worried I won't get approved since there is no way for them to make money on it and I'm a small ISV.

  42. Yep. Downward spiral. Thankfully it's giving many other countries an eagle eye view of what path to NOT go down. Americans are tenacious, though. Here's hoping they can come together in the next few years, because if they can't, they'll splinter their country. tbh... I've given up on most Americans above 35... True chance has to come from the progressive 18-30 y olds. Congress & high level state/county functions need to be replaced by young blood, e.g. like AOC. And no, that will not make the US into a socialist country, but hopefully a more fair one.

  44. This seems pretty pointless, if you're reliant on a number of Windows apps each day, just get a Windows device to start. If you need one of the office apps every now and then, you can just use the web version of it. This is clearly a play to try and get chromebooks to matter outside of education, but I really think that enterprise users will just get a Windows device and call it a day.
