Apple CEO Tim Cook joins the billionaires club as Apple nears $2 trillion in market value
dead.cell and 6 others reacted to Sir Topham Hatt for a topic
Which means nothing really as it's not like he's going to draw that dosh out the bank or do anything world changing with it. Plus, if anyone has over a billion dollars in the bank, they're clearly being paid too much. While people are dying from dirty water every day or animals being poached to extinction, it's disgusting that some bozo buries their head and watches it all happen when they could easily help.7 points -

Apple CEO Tim Cook joins the billionaires club as Apple nears $2 trillion in market value
300z and 3 others reacted to glen8 for a topic
but people have a choice between buying a $1,000 iphone (some people buy one every year), or giving money to charity. Apple is only worth $2 trillion because people keep buying their products, plus Tim Cook only has $1 billion through shares. I do think though that we are on the verge of having to make fundamental changes to the way our system works. There is too big a gap between the super rich and the people who can't even get access to clean water.4 points -

SpaceX reveals further details for its spaceport in Texas
JaykeBird and 2 others reacted to BigBoy for a topic
There are good reasons why such a location is chosen, significantly more important than how it looks. Example - due to very south position, launches are to happen going east, to help harness the energy of Earth spin and save a little bit of energy when launching. There is ample ocean around, in case launches have issues and things fall into the ocean (therefore launches over densely populated areas are not a Thing). For SpaceX, it is not about how it looks, it is about what it enables them to do.3 points -

Apple CEO Tim Cook joins the billionaires club as Apple nears $2 trillion in market value
THE END and 2 others reacted to Tim W for a topic
It's a weird thing, this "wealth" held in shares. It exists but also does not exist. If Tim Cook suddenly wanted to spend his billion dollars, he'd have to sell all his shares in Apple. If the CEO suddenly sells all the shares, everyone will panic and sell theirs, making them worthless. Suddenly the money that appeared to be so plentiful has simply ceased to exist. It hasn't gone anywhere; it's just evaporated. Mind you, in this implausible scenario, Tim Cook would indeed have a billion in his back pocket, but he'd have bankrupted thousands of other people in the process, which isn't so kind. Also, the trick would only work once; after such an event, few would have confidence to buy shares in Apple or any other big tech company again, and there would be a huge trickle down of consequences, not least for many of the poorest people in the world. Awkward.3 points -

I bet on Nvidia. Apple doesn't build their chip, it leases the job to other companies and it includes part of the designs and patents, mainly to TSMC but every Apple chip contains the design (implementations and patent) of dozen of other companies. Jumping Jacinta and one other reacted to domboy for a topic
If this provided a second battery I would be much more interested. Seems like a great opportunity missed, especially considering the mediocre battery I'm hearing a lot of the Pro models get. The keyboard needs to be heavy anyway so a battery could provide some of that weight. And considering the price, a battery would make it more worth the money. Of course it'd need to make a physical connection instead of using bluetooth.2 points -

Save 20% off the TicWatch S (Sport) with Google Assistant
Jazmac reacted to Slugsie for a topic
I have one of these as my main smart watch, I even have it in the Aurora green colour shown. It's a good watch which has served me well for a little over 2 years now. However I'd recommend getting the TicWatch E over the S, simply because the E uses standard watch straps so you can easily replace them. It's harder to get replacement straps for the S, especially in Aurora. After about 18 months my strap broke and I had to get a 3rd party strap and the colour doesn't quite match properly. Oh, and the bit about the GPS antenna being integrated into the strap for improved performance? Utter BS, there is nothing in the strap. It's just plastic.1 point -

Apple CEO Tim Cook joins the billionaires club as Apple nears $2 trillion in market value
dead.cell reacted to Astra.Xtreme for a topic
You really need to educate yourself on that topic... There is a massive amount of money that's spent world wide on poverty and social programs to help humanity get by. The US alone spends over 1 trillion (yes, trillion) dollars on welfare programs. Can you imagine what the number is globally? So even if all the billionaires liquidated all their assets to zero and donated that money to "help" world problems, it wouldn't even make a dent. Money doesn't magically solve these things... So please stop spreading nonsense that all the rich people are evil for refusing to donate all their money and solve every world issue. That never is and never will be the solution and there's not even enough money in the world to attempt it...1 point -

Chicago rocked by widespread looting caught on video after police-involved shooting
TheLaughingMan reacted to DocM for a topic
It's not just left of right, it's the indulgence of bad elements or not. Seattle during the world economic conference, Ferguson, Portland and other city leaders have lost their common sense by indulging violent "protesters" rather than engaging and working with the mainstream protest groups, citizens & the businesses who pay the city's bills. Instead the defunding nonsense is hitting the elements which could fix the bad-shoot incidents, including training and better less-lethal equipment. In Detroit Mayor Duggan and Chief Craig engaged mainstream activist groups with the intent of keeping the lid on, to the point Operation Cease Fire members put themselves between cops and the "aggressors" to prevent a clash. It worked. Now Chicago's Mayor and Superintendent are seeing the light; anarchy only benefits the worst elements of a society.1 point -

ChiTown is just the latest target of imported political extremists, Detroit PD Chief James Craig, respected throughout the region, has noted that they have few problems with protesters but that extremists have moved in to agitate protesters and incite riots. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/detroit-city/2020/06/01/detroit-protests/5307298002/ [Showing a railroad spike projectile, brought in by the case so outside logistics]1 point -

While you're probably right, comments like this before any pricing is announced seems a bit unnecessary. Plus there's literally 0 obligation to buy the top end best of the best card available, there's many cheaper options from Nvidia. Now if you just hate the price/performance across the entire range against a competitor, then sure complain away. What? The internet is all about unnecessary comments.1 point -
