  1. Which means nothing really as it's not like he's going to draw that dosh out the bank or do anything world changing with it. Plus, if anyone has over a billion dollars in the bank, they're clearly being paid too much. While people are dying from dirty water every day or animals being poached to extinction, it's disgusting that some bozo buries their head and watches it all happen when they could easily help.

A new report from Microsoft suggests that the U.K. is facing an AI skills gap that could leave companies in the country struggling to fill job roles. i.e. let's hire cheap Indians.

  6. but people have a choice between buying a $1,000 iphone (some people buy one every year), or giving money to charity. Apple is only worth $2 trillion because people keep buying their products, plus Tim Cook only has $1 billion through shares. I do think though that we are on the verge of having to make fundamental changes to the way our system works. There is too big a gap between the super rich and the people who can't even get access to clean water.

  7. Halo Infinite has been delayed until 2021

I'd bet money that's the real reason for this. They're having to overhaul things to the extent that it's not feasible to get it out in time. COVID is just a convenient excuse.

  10. SpaceX reveals further details for its spaceport in Texas

There are good reasons why such a location is chosen, significantly more important than how it looks. Example - due to very south position, launches are to happen going east, to help harness the energy of Earth spin and save a little bit of energy when launching. There is ample ocean around, in case launches have issues and things fall into the ocean (therefore launches over densely populated areas are not a Thing). For SpaceX, it is not about how it looks, it is about what it enables them to do.

These companies are trying to hire for a skills gap. They don't care if you're from Oxbridge, if you don't meet the skills they need....

  14. It's a weird thing, this "wealth" held in shares. It exists but also does not exist. If Tim Cook suddenly wanted to spend his billion dollars, he'd have to sell all his shares in Apple. If the CEO suddenly sells all the shares, everyone will panic and sell theirs, making them worthless. Suddenly the money that appeared to be so plentiful has simply ceased to exist. It hasn't gone anywhere; it's just evaporated. Mind you, in this implausible scenario, Tim Cook would indeed have a billion in his back pocket, but he'd have bankrupted thousands of other people in the process, which isn't so kind. Also, the trick would only work once; after such an event, few would have confidence to buy shares in Apple or any other big tech company again, and there would be a huge trickle down of consequences, not least for many of the poorest people in the world. Awkward.

  20. I bet on Nvidia. Apple doesn't build their chip, it leases the job to other companies and it includes part of the designs and patents, mainly to TSMC but every Apple chip contains the design (implementations and patent) of dozen of other companies. So Apple is close to a customer than a chip-foundry.

No one alive was involved in America's slave history unless they are immortal. And there are lots of white people looting/stealing as well. People were pulling up to businesses in a uhaul and packing it full.

  27. Welcome to US politics. And we all get the grace of being bombarded by it daily from the MSM. Luckily it's really easy to tune it out and realize that the world is actually made of mostly good people and every waking issue isn't x vs y. It would be nice to hear about the good of humanity more often, but I guess that doesn't get views and ratings.

  30. If this provided a second battery I would be much more interested. Seems like a great opportunity missed, especially considering the mediocre battery I'm hearing a lot of the Pro models get. The keyboard needs to be heavy anyway so a battery could provide some of that weight. And considering the price, a battery would make it more worth the money. Of course it'd need to make a physical connection instead of using bluetooth.

  32. Halo Infinite has been delayed until 2021

Certainly the correct move, but still worrying that they still chose to present the game like that. It's clear someone high up has dictated that it must run at native 4k 60fps for good marketing. The new console is powerful but it's clear they had to nerf the texture resolution and lighting effects to hit that target. I'm guessing the marketing guys don't want to back down, so 343 will spend a few months optimising the game more and fidding a few settings to make it look better. I'm expecting an improvement but nothing massive with that approach. The better approach would simply be to compromise on the resolution, bring it down to something like 1800p, do some optimisation and crank up the graphical fidelity. I doubt they will do that, because they wait to avoid the "Halo won't run at 4k" headlines. This is why Sony haven't said x game will run at 4k 60fps unless it's something that isn't graphically demanding. Xbox have dug their own hole here.

  33. More Surface Duo images leak, this time with accessories

OK, you got me thinking about this.. I have my phone in a case that folds open but I don't think I've really thought of it as a disadvantage as such. I don't think the lack of an outside screen would put me off. What would put me off though is if it is locked to a particular network or if I can't install my own packages. Oh, and the price. This is a Surface device after all so it might be silly expensive. I think the price will be lower than any of the newest folding screen phones like the one from Samsung. At this point I'm willing to bet that that a simple dual screen device costs less to make than the folding screen ones. We'll know in time, sounds like it's coming very soon.

  40. You really need to educate yourself on that topic... There is a massive amount of money that's spent world wide on poverty and social programs to help humanity get by. The US alone spends over 1 trillion (yes, trillion) dollars on welfare programs. Can you imagine what the number is globally? So even if all the billionaires liquidated all their assets to zero and donated that money to "help" world problems, it wouldn't even make a dent. Money doesn't magically solve these things... So please stop spreading nonsense that all the rich people are evil for refusing to donate all their money and solve every world issue. That never is and never will be the solution and there's not even enough money in the world to attempt it... I never said "all rich people are evil" - you made that conclusion by yourself by taking offence at my post. I bet, with the right management involved, if Facebook, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft got together, they could fairly easily solve access to clean water for those countries that have a problem with it. Hell, they could even create something like the Oasis from Ready Player One and completely change how many people access the internet... but no. The only thing I don't understand is why these companies seem to horde their money instead of invest, invest, invest. The investments they're doing so far are rubbish - haven't heard of one of them.

  47. A sham? How it is a sham? A developer tests a watch app/sdk, beta bricks his watch (which they're already paying 100 a year to access).. no way to restore/DFU mode. Now developer has to buy a new watch unless they have AppleCare/within their standard warranty. That's what I'd call a sham. There's obviously an inherent risk of installing beta software, but as part of Apples yearly developer initiative, and avoiding the wrath of customers complaining that it doesn't work right out of the box on new devices/watchOS versions, there should be a way to roll back without having to visit an Apple Store/replace the watch. To make it even more of a sham, there is/was a service port on the watch, hidden behind the one watchband holder, but apple disables it outside of factory provisioning. Not even sure if it's on the newer ones. And bricking does happen. There was a watch beta a few years ago that was quickly pulled when it broke watches, in fact it's happened during GA: https://9to5mac.com/2018/10/30/watchos-5-1-bricking-apple-watch/ Will be interesting if/when iPhone's go portless.
