  1. Apple becomes the first U.S. company to be worth $2 trillion

Cheating on your taxes and using slave labor and charging three times the item's value pays off.

  10. >The change to secure DNS as a default option further improves privacy It does the exact opposite. Sending all your DNS traffic to Google or Cloudflare is not an enhancement of privacy. DNS does not belong on the application layer. Microsoft should add DoH and DoT support to Windows instead, where it belongs.

  15. So I just subscribed to lightroom for a little while, I just through about putting it on my ipad yesterday but didn't. I mean wouldn't have been the end of the world if stuff got deleted as I have all my photos on 2 external hard drives, but I guess the edits i'm currently doing on the desktop would have been gone? I would not like to be the people doing phone support today.

No problem, I got little time anyway for the moment. Like with Control, I am happy to wait a year for polished version with all DLCs and a reduced price.

  17. It seems likely that Microsoft has disabled a bunch of background services / code that only benefit Google services, thereby freeing up the processor to do more during the benchmarking. Which is pretty much the same thing that they did with Chrome. Ultimately, a 21 point gain is a 2.8% improvement and really isn't worth talking about, but the 192 point (about 7.1%) gain for multithreaded performance suggests that I am probably right about the code / service removal.

Good, keep that ###### off other stores. Need to be online and sign up to a data mining policy to get a score? For a damn game? Hope they go bankrupt.

  19. Microsoft details the Surface Duo's camera app and features

nice to see someone else who doesn't care about the bezels. Honestly, this trend of going to as-close-to-zero bezels is not my cup of tea if it's done just for the sake of it. Bezels are fine, if appropriate, and I don't see any issues with them on this device. This type of device needs them so you can hold it without issue. When we're talking about a single screen phone, you're not holding it in the same way so less or no bezels is fine there as well. B.S this is the kind of dumb fan boy stuff we're use to seeing in apple threads and now we've got to see it here too it seems. There's good reason every phone and device on the planet has sought to reduce bezels and amazingly people can still use devices with them. I am guessing when Microsoft release the Surface Duo X in black and with thinner bezels magically you guys will be onboard? It's okay to be pumped for the device and still acknowledge its short-comings, you don't have to justify everything about it. You don't need to spin a tale about why the poor camera specs, poor battery capacity and lack of NFC is somehow a good thing. i think people want no bezels until they actually try it. I own the Samsung Galaxy S8, S9 (well, traded this in to get the S10+), S10+ and S20. And they all have the smallest of bezels with screen wrap. And I have to change how I hold a phone because of no bezels. So many accidental touches or swipes. Even MKBHD talked about the challenge of holding the new Note 20 Ultra because of the no bezels. The true functional purpose of no bezels is to have a bigger screen but in a smaller form factor. But the realistic purpose is it's more a bragging point and technical achievement than a functional purpose.

  21. Hitman 3 becomes an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC

To me, personally, it doesn't make much of a difference. It's not like I have to pay to install epic store (or any store). I don't care about steam's social features. The reviews are pretty useless and the forums are filled with a lot of haters or worshipers, making it hard to have a proper conversation or get help without someone posting off-topic, judgmental nonsense. I get to play the games on the same PC, with the same hardware setup. I can't say the same about console exclusives, specially third-party ones. I really don't like paying hundreds of dollars to access a few titles.

No one cares about those idiots. Beg to differ... under the guise of “content creators” they are often courted by all the major tech players. Rambling on social media or shaking your ass on TikTok doesn't make you a 'content creator'

  27. Microsoft details the Surface Duo's camera app and features

Pending real world reviews, the Duo ticks all the boxes for me. It will fit into my workflow exactly as I need it. I often use split screen mode on my current LG handset, though of course on a single screen it's less than ideal, and only borderline useable for productivity. The phone part will be the least used for me - so if it makes phone calls & sends SMS, that's enough. I do wish they went with higher spec optics on the camera, but it's not a deal breaker.

  33. People don't give a crap about "slave labor". I can be talking about Chinese citizens abused by their government or Uighurs being detained to detention camps which fulfill orders for Microsoft, Apple, Nike, Google, etc., but people only like to pick up on this when it suits them for whatever brand they hate. https://www.business-humanrigh...-includes-company-responses Personally, I don't care who you hate, but hate them all consistently at least. Hard to hold higher expectations of only one company when many are implicated. It shouldn't be a matter of measuring evil but rather condemning all evil. Just my 2 cents though, and I don't mean to single you out; it's just a common theme here.

  34. Can't wait to buy one. Two screens on a phone? Better than the single folding screen gimmick. If they can get the sensors in the separating hinge to work well when gesturing for window resizing then I'll be pretty pumped. Oh and the large bezels are a nice touch, my fingers won't be screwing over the digitizer.

  38. I don't own any tin foil hats, but this seems like the opposite of secure for en-mass routing of DNS to only a few services. The distributed non-centralized nature of DNS is part of what makes it work so well. Why not introduce and implement an SDNS standard using the traditional DNS service? The only "secure" connection needed is between the client and the first DNS server. After that address caching doesn't have to be secured, it's anonymous at that point. It's just IP addresses for hosts we're talking about here, not URLs. This may be cynical to think, but this looks like a sly business move. Say I offer a "secure DNS" service that people worried about privacy all start using. Okay so I secure their DNS lookups, nobody can see what addresses they accessed. But what I have now is a very very valuable thing-- I know exactly what sites these people are visiting. That is valuable information, not from a spying sense but from a sense of having information I can now sell for a profit. I have a lot of insight into the behavior of lots of people, like *every* site they visit on the internet. This could be more valuable than knowing what they are searching.

Depend on how old/used the device is you are plugging in as well. Not just the port itself. A used usb cable/drive tends to have wear patterns over time.

  47. any modern scenarios for Windows Mobile devices ?

Hello, If you still support a a Windows Mobile-based app, you might use the devices for testing purposes. As for more consumer-centric uses... maybe as an MP3 player? That should not require a network connection, so using one for that purpose might be sensible. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

  48. Satire has gone from: Take something real and relatable to it's most ludicrous extreme for comedic effect so we can laugh together To: Funny is bad, so let's get bitter and hateful so people keep turning on each other. Case-in-Point: Saturday Night Live. Some of us remember Eddie Murphy doing White Face, or Chevy Chase and Richard Pryor trading racial slurs during a job interview, and laughing our asses off the whole time. Now... almost every "joke" has venom in it-- it's bitter, and lacks any feeling of Fun the old shows had. And if you want to see for yourself how out-of-touch they are now, go watch the recent Special where Eddie Murphy came back. Jesus Christ... just watch the rest of the cast. It's like they're just not used to actually having fun doing the show. Eddie Murphy shows up, does his thing, and you can actually feel the cast responding to the change in the environment. They're relaxed, instead of stiff, cardboard cutouts.
