  1. TikTok plans to sue Trump administration over executive order

And they are absolutely right to do so. I’m not a fan of TikTok (I'm a boomer and i don't “get” it - but that’s not a reason to dislike it)... It has been a hell for parents until recently and (as with most new, rushed to market platforms) had very little in the way of child protection. But if they can stand by their security claims and can argue Trump’s reasoning then all power to them. Let’s be honest, we all know why he has issue with TikTok...

Kinda funny if the Chinese government will sue or ban/remove Google, Facebook, Apple, Amazon and other major US companies etc etc for (illegally) obtaining data from Chinese people and put it on US-servers...

  3. Why does that matter? If the legal system in the US was designed to allow a company to sue due the way this administration handled the ban and implemented the ban, why wouldn’t they? I’m not versed in India law (who also banned), but in the US, it’s possible for TikTok do, and they’ve probably got a good chance of winning with the evidence they will present, and how the EO was signed and to be implemented. Perhaps it’s not possible to sue in other countries? I do know that TikTok was working the resolve the issues with other governments as well.

Movie Maker definitely! And it needs to support HEVC, VP9, AV1 and all the GPU encoders available today or coming in the future, as well as inbox software encoders based on Media Foundation, as well as modern containers like MKV (since Microsoft already added playback support for MKV). There are plenty of good third party alternatives though.

  9. We need Apple because we don't want Google as the sole player. However, Apple crossed the line. We did once have another major company that treated customers really well, along with bringing a ton of new features to the Phone/Device market. Remember those days? Remember the ranting of how horrible Windows Phone and Microsoft was? Looking back, they were stable, fast, secure and had more features than Android or iOS. Hmm... It if funny watching Google and Apple 'dribble' out Windows Phone features a few each year, and not have to move any faster now that Windows Phone is dead. Weird how BOTH Google and Apple stopping having a lot of new features every year. It is almost like they collude instead of compete. Almost to the day of WP being officially killed off, you can track the iOS and Android and hardware plateau of innovations. Weird uh?

  10. You're not wrong. It would be funny too because when the iPhone first came out, they were pushing people to make browser-based web apps. Apple has never pushed for Web Apps and have blocked them year after years, with only some PWAs slipping through, which Apple has started to limit their access to device features in the lasts couple of iOS releases. Microsoft was pushing for Web Apps in the early 00s, during the iPhone 06s, during the 2010, and again with 2013 platfrom proposals. Google and Apple both blocked and broke every version of these, from PREVENTING Silverlight from working on Android/iOS to also breaking Chrome/Safari on mobile to not work with websites that were using or allowing Web Site Apps. Microsoft worked with websites to add around a 100 of these Apps to the Windows Phone Store around 2012, and Google and Apple threatened the websites, and forced them to have MS pull the web app version of their sites. (Which were all HTML5 and worked really good as WebApps - even better than PWAs do today, ironically.) It was when MS threw in the towel with Windows Phone, that Google released their 'idea' for PWAs. (Which Google really wants to work, as their Google Web Analytics and Services can run on the website and gain access to the phone/PC through the PWA to mine data. Which is happening today, and why Apple is trying to reduce the reach of PWAs inside iOS.) Side Rant: At this point, people are already giving Google everything so why not hand over Windows and iOS data as well. The era of privacy and information having value is over, and the irony, is that this death of the information markets will kill Google and Advertising dead as hammer eventually. When were are in a world where people think it is MS that is collecting data, and think Google and Apple and Facebook and others are GOOD and NOT COLLECTING data, we are ######ed. Already people will yell ###### like "Microsoft Telemetry" while still not having a ######ing clue what it means. ** All while their Android, ChromeOS, OSX, iOS, and some Linux Distributions are collecting and reporting more software and hardware information that Windows 10 by a factor of 10-20x in many examples. The Chrome browser submits aroudn 2GB of encrypted data to Google per user per week, but they are the GOOD guys and Microsoft is the one taking and selling their data. Except Google makes billions off of user data and Microsoft making NOTHING. Apple also doesn't sell data that we know. However, there sure are several Linux Distros reporting hardware information to servers, home sites collections and even stores and repositories that sell the data, and these are even being brokered and financed by Google companies and partners, sucking up Linux user information as easily as it if were Android. "Bbbbbbbbb MS Telemetry!" - cries the fools being conned by Google. FFS

  15. TikTok plans to sue Trump administration over executive order

I think it has a chance of working. A few days ago Trump's reelection campaign sued New Jersey for using an executive order to provide the same voting options to constituents that they had in the primary (they didn't get sued then for some reason though.) This is because "the executive order usurps the legislature's authority." Given that the government is not hypocritical and has no double standards for different situations then surely TikTok will have a strong case here.

I wish they had left the remote desktop feature of Live Mesh working. It was a good easy way for me to do remote fixes for my older family members without having to install third party software. It just worked with no fuss at all. I'll never understand why Microsoft constantly gets rid of actually USEFUL features like this.

  20. Hello, Dimitry. Nice to meet you. I read your script and I can say that you are a genius. You know scripting quite well. But writing foolproof software is an art of its own. When you ask people to comment out sections that they don't want, you assume they know how to comment out sections that they don't want. Can they even tell sections apart? One of the principles of software development is: A fool can always surprise you by how much damage they can do. Giving PowerShell to the PowerShell-illiterate is like giving a loaded gun to a retard. As for your English translations, I am afraid they are not good. For example this: "Do not let apps on other devices open and message apps on this device, and vice versa." We can talk about this matter extensively on My Digital Life or GitHub if you wish. I have an account on both sites, but it is not "Fleet Command". (It was taken when I signed up.) I'll contact you.

The cards in that image are actually not to scale. This is the corrected one. It's still quite bigger, but not the monstrosity shown in the first image. EDIT: I almost always buy mid-range; really wish 3060 would not be more than $300. It almost certainly won't happen though, unless AMD starts a price war like they did with their HD 4000 line up, but given their financial situation, that seems unlikely too.

  24. It seems to be high on their priority list. WSL2 already added "Nvidia CUDA and DirectML support for GPU accelerated applications and development tools, such as Kubeflow on microk8s." The thing is WSL2 is essentially a very modified Hyper-V VM instance (very trimmed down, integrated and ready to use out of the box). However MS seems to cripple Hyper V in Windows compared to Hyper V in Windows Server (ex. No PCI pass through), etc. I doubt it'll make it to WSL2 before Hyper V in Windows.

It is surprisingly good, and many of the features never made it to the new Video Editor in the Photos app.. I only ever used it to create time-lapse videos from still images from an DSLR, setting each frame to 0.05 of a second and you have a surprisingly smooth video. Cannot do that with the current options sadly. It's showing its age, but it can still pump out slick FullHD videos which is all I need it for.

  36. Nah, I think is more likely to do with the issues with Epic right now. Apple got this successful because they are ruthless. Now Epic are throwing a tantrum they will make an example of them and will go after anyone else trying to skirt around giving them their cut. I could be wrong though, just seems awfully convenient that Epic got into trouble for skirting around the rules and suddenly companies who were fine are now targeted. Take with a grain of salt... Epic 'poking' Apple is probably behind the recent aggression. However, it isn't Epic's fault, it is Apple, and what Epic did was cast light on what Apple was doing. One of Epic's and Microsoft's arguments against Apple is that they don't implement their policy the same for all Apps. So even if the world does buy into the BS of Apple's anti-consumer practices, Apple cannot be letting some Apps or companies get a pass or have their restrictions overlooked. There are quite a few Apps in the Store that are NOT forced to comply with the same restrictions Apple is making Microsoft, Google, and Epic. So with Microsoft and Google and Epic making this case in public with a lot of news coverage, Apple has been going through Apps and making them comply to the same set of rules and terms. However, the irony is that even once Apple does this, it is going to be the Apps like Netflix where Apple has made a side deal with for content exchange (illegal) and reduced their fees to 15%. THIS is the one that Apple can't throw out of the store or fix to 'look' like they are being equal. This is a bit like watching the Titanic Captain run around the sinking ship and making sure all the passengers paid for their ticket. Apple can't see how this looks and that what they are doing is not the point, even though they think the 'equal' application of store terms is something they have no legal grounds to defend. (Which it isn't, but not the main point or problem. Apple cannot have or keep doing anti-competitive things, no matter if it is their hardware/software/store/ecoysystem/market. Something of this size belongs to the consumers, and a corporation only can exist by the grace of the consumers of the states in the US. Thus it is Apple's customers being harmed in an ecosystem/market they legally control. (Not Apple.)

About Windows Live Essentials ... Yes, I would like that, though I am more in favour of Photo Gallery instead of Movie Maker. Photo Gallery has batch processing, cloning, rich facial recognition, panoramic stitching, and photo fusing features ! Speaking of Movie Maker, are you aware that in 2012 it received a video stablisation feature that was exclusive to Windows 8 ! ? https://www.itproportal.com/20...ation-feature-in-windows-8/

  47. As opposed to just using the tools Microsoft gives uses? Why? (Microsoft provides several tools to customize Windows installations, maybe check them out first.) Scripts like this to 'clean' and 'shrink' Windows 10 are the bane of the IT industry, they break more than they help or fix, and ironically, most of these that offer 'optimization' introduce problems that cause Windows to run slower, sometimes significantly if a driver or application aggressively keeps tying to start or use a key OS feature that is now missing. Understand what you are doing when working with scripts like this. Understand that when you rip out a feature of the operating system, software and other things can slow and break in ways you might not associate with the things you removed. Understand that often things that logically would seem like 'less' or a performance improvement, might have a reason they are in Windows the way they are for good reasons. Example: Remember in Windows 7 when 'power users' would turn off Aero and Theming? This was around 10-25% slower for application display drawing calls. It wasn't just pretty, it was much faster and there is a reason Microsoft LOCKED it on in WIndows 8 so people would stop slowing down their computer and then bitching at Microsoft for the slow down. There are so many 'tiny' settings that Microsoft lets you change, but understand what the possible ramifications you might have down the road. When something doesn't work like it used to, think back to WHAT YOU DID, before you hit Reddit and start yelling about Windows being a piece of ######. I get tired of people pissing about Windows, only to find out the crashes and bugs and performance crap they are having is because they disabled secure components, performance services, and features that they didn't understand and most people on earth do not understand. For the love of IT/Support's sanity, be careful and mindful that stuff like this introduces more problems most of the time.
