  1. Apple invented their own device and created a product and platform. Then, without being forced, Apple opened that platform for other companies to develop on top of and make money off Apple's creation as long as developers follow basic guidlines. Epic decided the appropriate response is to file a law suit. I don't see how Apple did anything wrong. It's very simple... if you don't like their pricing policies, don't build for that platform. They chose to build for it with full knowledge of the restrictions, fees, and policies in place... then decided to fight it a decade later. Epic is trying to make consumers part of the fight that they created.

  2. I'm with Apple on this. If you want your app on their store, follow the rules or remove your app. If Epic don't like it, quit the app store and tell people to buy an Android.

  4. Stuff like this is why I use Android and never consider iPhone. If Google Play does this then at least I have the option of sideloading the verboten APK(s). But as I understand it, if your iPhone is not 'jailbreakable' then you need some sort of enterprise certificate from Apple to sideload onto iPhone - so basically a permission slip from daddy. Having spent most of my childhood with PCs and learning to build them at a young age I could never get on board with a locked down hardware that controls what software I may and may not install artificially. I know zoomers are used to walled gardens of all kinds but I suppose I'm too old fashioned to ever willingly put myself in a walled garden for a computing device. Fortnite on my Pixel 3 is a good way to pass the time while waiting for the nurse to call me back when I'm at the doctor's office. I've no interest in playing it on PC though, it's just something I play on my phone to pass the time when I need to be out.

  5. Microsoft created Windows and Internet explorer which basically became the portal to the Internet for the world. They included Internet Explorer in their own product Windows and they let other developers release browsers for free on their Windows platform and they still faced antitrust charges. How is what Apple is doing different? The only difference is that Apple also greedily milk money out of everyone. Here is the difference. MS had nearly full control of the PC OS market. They included their own browser by default and made it the default on every Windows install. This gave them an unfair advantage over an entire browser market and was considered an antitrust violation. Apple has no such stranglehold over the mobile OS market. iOS devices are just as closed as gaming consoles. Of those, there is also no stranglehold on the market. Now does that make Apple right in their position? Maybe, maybe not. Especially if they have shown favoritism with lesser fees to larger companies. However this is not the same thing what MS did.

  6. Both.. though I fall on Apples side. Its their Ecosystem, and its been that way since the start.. they didn't make some sneaky change to lock out competitors, or trick anyone.. Plus they aren't the Majority phone OS so that to me rules out Antitrust, as you can always go to Android.. And Epic entered into it knowing the rules, then chose to ignore them.. Epic on the other hand.. Tim Sweeney is a tool. This whole thing was a PR stunt, and he thought he was big enough to call Apple's bluff.. problem is, Apple is incredibly stubborn.. So that failed.. and it'll take YEARS for this to go through the courts. Plus Apple isn't done, they can still get the injunction dropped and nuke their Engine from having Developer access too..

  7. So Apple is in the wrong because Epic bypassed payment options directly breaking the tos they agreed to operate behind? Which got their game removed? Read what I said again. I said morally wrong... It's subjective, but I was clear enough on that. But it still doesn't make sense from a moral stand point. You can disagree with Apples 30% cut but that doesn't give you the right to break their ToS however you please and expect them to be okay with it. There are other ways of going about this that doesn't involve screwing over your customers and that is entirely on Epic. They caused this entire situation. All because they want more money. I'm no fan of Apple either, I've only ever purchased 1 apple product in my life but to say they are at fault here is at the very least weird. It does seem weird but it’s clearly a polarizing issue. I am more concerned on what precedent it will set if the government rules in favor of Epic. It opens nearly every developer out there up for lawsuit if they close their ecosystem and someone disagrees, nor matter of its a kid in his garage or a behemoth like Amazon. We need less government interference in this area, not more.

  9. Where's your basis for this claim? I could also argue that Epic's IAP are a ripoff for something entirely digital, and 'free' to reproduce to everyone who plays the game, yet if I want those items, I must accept Epic's pricing - see how this works?

  12. Epic loves to do ###### things to attempt a point. Epic Store is a prime example.. an Alternative to Steam.. fine.. But wait lets make titles exclusive (something Valve never did except to their own games).. and not only that lets go after ones already announced and even preorders for on Steam..

They included Internet Explorer in their own product Windows and they let other developers release browsers for free on their Windows platform and they still faced antitrust charges. How is what Apple is doing different? The only difference is that Apple also greedily milk money out of everyone. It’s different because Microsoft’s OS was a monopoly there was no other viable second option. iOS is not a monopoly in the mobile space. It’s not even the biggest, Android is far bigger. If they don’t lie apples rules they can be on Android. It’s not the same. There were other viable solution, Linux and Mac both existed. I see people in every Epic VS Apple article say that Epic should create their own hardware, software and Appstore if they do not want to comply with Apples rules. It would have been way easier for a company to create an other OS back in the 90s to compete. Heck both Amazon and Microsoft have both had failures in mobile that should tell you something. Windows had almost 100% of the desktop market share at the time, they were a monopoly. Apple has, what, 15% of the mobile space? They are tiny compared to Androids market share. Apple has 100% of the iOS mobile market. And Sony has 100% of the PlayStation market. And Microsoft has 100% of the Xbox market. And Walmart has 100% of the Great Value brand market. But like your example, those aren't real markets, man.

  19. I am no fan of Apple, or its treatment of developers, but that statement above seems fair enough to me. They created the whole OS, ecosystem, etc. so having some bespoke functionality available just for themselves, seems like it would be a normal business practice for any corporation. ( keeping in mind that I haven't deeply researched the facts of this particular case though...) Microsoft was sued for that reason (Microsoft vs WordPerfect) Anyways, the market regulation is not about companies earning money but consumers getting a fair deal. Apple users are not.

  20. Because what they did with Fortnite was a breach of the terms and conditions of the developer account, so they had their dev account revoked. Which of course means all apps associated with that account get pulled too.

( keeping in mind that I haven't deeply researched the facts of this particular case though...) It becomes a issue if you start to compete directly with your own developers and don't give them the same access you have. If Apple uses something in iOS only they know about to do something that can't or isn't being done by apps, then ok. It starts to become a issue when they get a unfair advantage over 3rd party developers making apps that do a specific thing that Apple then starts to do, basically beginning to lock them out of the ability to compete. Or a developer did have features in their product, Apple then removed those abilities and offered a free competiting product with exclusive access to those abilities. Clearly unfair practice. And since Apple have done it a number of times now, in my opinion it's way worse abuse than Microsoft back in the day when they were savaged by the US courts.

  22. If you actually read up on marketplace monopolies and monopolistic practices and all that fun stuff it's easy to infer that Apple controls 100% of the iOS marketplace, and Google similar. The problem here is people are too focused on one word and not enough on the actual issues in play. (Not to mention, a duopoly is a thing.)

  24. If they do it? LOL, they kicked Epic’s app off the store too. Yeah people are hating on Apple for their policies yet fail to comprehend that Google’s is the same thing. On Android you can side load but then you’re opening up security issues for unsigned apps which on a game aimed at kids isn’t great. But when people’s complaints are ‘apples 30% is too high’ the stupidity of many of the users here is insane when Google charges the same fee.

  26. Except that the user is left behind at the fault of a company that wishes to strategically get you on their side by making it "Apple's fault" they can't play. It's not. They want a few bucks more on every transaction is the reality. They knew the terms before they even made the app for iOS, they knew the game, they decided to play ball. This all could've been rectified very easily if Epic just disabled IAP, simply with the standpoint to not give Apple any revenue. Of course, they can't POSSIBLY miss out on kids buying more vbucks lol.

  27. You are justifying Darth Vader. https://pics.awwmemes.com/ive-...er-ive-altered-50869645.png Apple changes the rules at whim and gives no option but to accept their rules. Even Google is not too evil. What did they change? Epic is the one who bypassed Apples payment system which has *always* been against their ToS.

  28. They do want 30% from Amazon but they won't pay. The difference here is Apple needs Amazon more than Amazon needs Apple. This gives them leverage over Apple. They [Apple] bent over backwards for them [Amazon] because they need their help to grow thier own ambitions in video streaming. Eventually when Apple is big enough in this area on their own, Amazon will be faced with the choice, pay 30% cut or get out. Epic tried to broker the same deal...Apple said no. Now this hilarious temper tantrum ensures.... This doesn't make what Apple did right, it just means there is a reason behind it. They will bend the rules for companies that further their own ambitions but will slam down hard on anyone else. NOTE: This is massively simplified and the situation is bit more complicated then that. Just my rough take on it, so take with a grain of salt.

  29. Maybe epic should get other big names to delete their iOS apps too. It would only take a few big names for more to follow and the iPhone could become like Windows Phone. Interesting that Apple want a 30% cut of Epics transactions yet they don't want a 30% cut of Amazon's...

  31. Both companies wrong, but Apple more so in my view, which is more a moral stance. I love how people get up and arms about the Windows Store, but at least you can install whatever you want on Windows. Same with Android, with a little effort. Apple forces you to use the App Store, and let's be honest, jailbreaking is not an option for the vast majority of iOS users. If Apple easily allowed side-loaded apps, then this issue goes away.

  36. Just think. Epic could have sued and maintained their App Store offerings. Instead they acted like a child and breached their contract, and then got the hammer dropped on them. They would have had a lot more sympathy from not only userbase, but court as well... Apple is certainly blowing their top a little though, they are going to start losing support while they start kicking someone while they are down.

  45. How do I use the DISM command with a downloaded ISO of Win10?

Glad you got that worked out. I looked up the DISM error code you posted, and to sum it up.. it mentioned that the wrong image is being used to fix a newer version of the OS. I also see the 19041.1 listed, and that's the first version.. and it was trying to use that to repair a later version, thus missing files and producing that error. Like trying to use a Windows 7 disk to repair a Windows 7 SP1 install. Now.. you can create a bootable Windows disk from ESD.. and use that to repair (if you still use an optical drive).. or create a bootable USB drive from those files. Just an extra tool in the arsenal.

  46. Considering a new build

As stated in the original post, the motherboard choice is the MSI B550M MAG Mortar to take advantage of the Sabrent Rocket NVME PCIE4 SSD and the Ampere 3070 (which may release Monday). Only thing I don't like about this board is the lack of USB on the rear I/O. Waiting for the 4000 series will certainly increase the build cost with an unknown level of benefit. Getting an AM4 socket will let me drop in a 4000 series a year or two down the road if my needs change and would benefit from what the 4000 series offer. This is actually one of the more prominent reasons for AMD over Intel for me. The 1200 socket is at the end of the road. @adrynalyne why do you say that? I just don't see any advantage for my usage on any of the very few x570s I could find. I did mention in the OP that the case is a Caselabs Mercury S5 so I'm limited to mATX or mini ITX and these form factors appear to have almost no x570 support. I did look at the ASUS B550-I ROG Strix but as a mini ITX, it only has one full length PCIE slot and one m.2 slot. Spending $100 more for a motherboard that offers no apparent advantages doesn't make a compelling argument for me to consider. That said, convince me. Everyone in this thread has stated why they suggested what they did and as a result, I'll be moving away from Intel for the first time since my first 8088 PC clone. What advantage am I missing out on by choosing of the handful of x570

  48. Google tells Android developers to get ready for a 5G world

How? Apple has many of the technologies detailed and they will debut their 5G phone this year. By the end of this year 5G adoption will largely be driven by the carriers. Both Google (their Android OEMs and their Pixel phones) and Apple will have 5G options. After other companies have had 5G for almost 2+ years now. Good on them. Too bad they couldn’t use it for 2+ years. I can’t fault a company for proceeding when the tech is ready vs available. See this is what is don't get from you Apple people. This "well Apple doesn't have 5G so 5G isn't available. It won't be until Apple has it" which is a load of crap. Apple can't get 5G until next year probably because they use old technology (I don't even think it's their technology), that they know their customers are stupid and mostly computer illiterate that they will believe in anything. Do they have NFC yet? You still can't use Apple Pay at many stores. On Samsung phones, over 90% of the stores you can use Samsung Pay. I know, I know that Apple slaps comments will be "Well, Samsung Pay is stupid" only because it's better than Apple Pay. The truth is it's a nice feature (plus it's nice getting cash back from it as well). Believe what you want to believe but 5G has been around for a least 2+ years (market hype or not) with Verizon introducing real (not fake) 5G first. I think Samsung was the first phone manufacturer to be able to have 5G chips in one of their phones (not sure on that). Also, I mean official 5G. Not AT&T fake 5G or 5G LTE whatever they call it. What are you even talking about? I have both a Galaxy Note 8 and an iPhone XR and they both work (with Samsung Pay and Apple Pay respectively) at any store or pay terminals I have been to. Also, Apple has had NFC for Apple Pay since 2014 with the iPhone 6/6Plus. "Apple can't get 5G until next year probably because they use old technology (I don't even think it's their technology)" The iPhone 12, which is coming this year, is supposed to have 5G. We know the bulk of modems will be supplied by Qualcomm (either X55 which is used in current Snapdragon 865 based devices which covers the vast majority of Android flagships or X60). and the Iphone 12 has been delayed. Other manufacturers have had 5G for two years or moire real 5G. https://www.macworld.co.uk/new...ensive%20iPhone%20XS." rel="external nofollow">https://www.macworld.co.uk/new...ensive%20iPhone%20XS." rel="external nofollow">https://www.macworld.co.uk/new...ensive%20iPhone%20XS." rel="external nofollow">https://www.macworld.co.uk/new...20expensive%20iPhone%20XS." rel="external nofollow">https://www.macworld.co.uk/new...ensive%20iPhone%20XS." rel="external nofollow">https://www.macworld.co.uk/new...ensive%20iPhone%20XS." rel="external nofollow">https://www.macworld.co.uk/new...20expensive%20iPhone%20XS." rel="external nofollow">https://www.macworld.co.uk/new...%20expensive%20iPhone%20XS. Yes you probably will get it the end of September or October but it still takes them a very long time to get newer things out. Other companies release newer things before Apple. Which is exactly why when Apple releases it, it’s been refined and improved. Just another repeat of the LTE fiasco. Everyone rushed it out, it was crap, and by the time Apple did it, it had normalized and improved. If you find fault in that, that’s on you. Just stop no it won't. Just please stop giving Apple excuses all the time. Apple caters on the stupid if you can't see that then you are stupid. I'm not giving anyone excuses. I just refuse the play the typical fanboy hate game. I had one of the first LTE phones, and the battery life was about 3-4 hours on LTE with a STRONG signal. By the time I purchased an iPhone LTE had been out for a bit and they introduced it into the iPhone. Had just fine battery life. If you see a problem with that...and you call me stupid? LOL. Call me stupid if you like, I am not the one bashing a company strictly due to brand loyalty. If that makes me stupid in your eyes, well I am not very concerned. I think at this point this individual is no longer arguing with you or me in good faith and is instead resorting to tropes like all Apple users are stupid and asserting that pointing out the flaws/falsehoods in his argument make me/you stupid. At this point there is not much else to say. Being a tech enthusiast for so long and being in basically every ecosystem (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android) I can say there are legitimate benefits and issues with each one of these operating systems, the devices that harbour them, their respective ecosystems, and the companies behind them. There are so many flaws one could talk about with regards Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc. that we don't need to resort to falsehoods or blindly endorsing/hating on one company over the other.

Rittenhouse escalated the situation and looks to be the aggressor. And first part of the video, he looks amped up and says "we have no non lethal here". And the other guy pulling a weapon of his own was defense as Rittenhouse already killed one person and was poised to do it again. I am all for defending yourself if/when needed.
