Ridley Scott has mixed opinions about Fortnite's parody of Apple's 1984 commercial
matthiew and 11 others reacted to felrefordit for a topic
So, the guy who re-used an idea that was originally intended to make a point about more important things like democracy and police state, for commercial purposes, complains that others have used the very same idea for commercial things? That's rich. Also, if it wouldn't have went woosh over his head he'd have realized that the very point of Epic's "ad" was to parody, or more: turn around, and use Apple's own weapon against the company, exposing its hypocrisy. In that sense nothing else would have been made sense, than the verbatim copying of the original Apple ad, but replacing IBM with Apple, and Apple with Epic - which Epic did. This guy just totally lost his edge. But we already knew that at the latest after Alien: Covenant.12 points -
Nvidia introduces GeForce RTX 30 series, headlined by the $699 RTX 3080

Nintendo now lets customers cancel preorders up to 7 days before a game releases
Ghostdraconi and 2 others reacted to boo_star for a topic
"undoing what was arguably a somewhat anti-consumer practice" It's still anti-consumer. These are not physical copies, it's not like they'll end up stuck with a copy of a game they'll need to sell to get their money back. Anything other than allowing the consumer to cancel up until the game is released is anti-consumer IMO.3 points -

Ubisoft support site states PS5 lacks backward compatibility for PS3, PS2 and PS1
Eternal Tempest and 2 others reacted to Nazmus Shakib Khandaker for a topic
Your logic is severely flawed. You don't suddenly stop playing your existing games just when a new generation arrives. Sure, you may have PS5 games, but what about your favorite existing games. Before you say "just use your old console..." let me stop you right there. We don't have unlimited desk space and HDMI cables to go around. And even if we did, switching inputs is a hassle. Second of all, A LOT of people sell or trade-in their old consoles for newer ones. So, the "use your old console" method is not possible. Finally, as hardware age, they are more prone to breaking. No PS3 or Xbox 360 consoles are being manufactured. These consoles are dwindling by the day...eventually, their games will be lost to history. Now, let me ask again, is backward compatibility "not important"?3 points -

Forum upgrade to version 4.5
Wannes and one other reacted to Steven P. for a topic
At 12PM CET the forum will go offline for an upgrade to 4.5 which is a major version update from our 4.4.x version. It brings with it may new features and improvements (including better moderation tools, such as banning people from a topic) you can read about some of the changes here https://invisioncommunity.com/news/company/welcome-to-invision-community-45-r1206/ (note that Matt links to individual topics about features, because there are many changes). Hopefully our upgrade will go smoothly, but if it doesn't we can always roll back. In any case please be patient while we figure out problems should they arise.2 points -

Florida police officer shot while serving warrant, suspect killed in ‘gun battle,’ chief says
DocM and one other reacted to techbeck for a topic
Another recent shooting in LA. Riots and without even time to look at the case, people demanding justice and for the cops to be punished. Give time for an investigation but that is not what they want. They want immediate action and guilty until proven innocent. Guess they need a new TV and other items.... And of course, the LA officers had no body cams so another instance of cops word over gen public regardless of what evidences comes out. Every office should wear body cams at all times.2 points -

Correct me if I'm wrong, but based on the timeline implied by the article this change to the AppStore policy was announced well before the "Epic incident"? Yep. Any "infringement" or suit is based on the time the event occurred. It's stupid just like their new ugly "mega" bar. People at Mozilla are clueless idiots and I know know Google's big presence is not the only reason Firefox is such a fail. It's Mozilla itself. They introduced the stupid, ugly and clumsy mega bar and haven't changed it even for 1 pixel since its inception 5 versions ago. They shoved this crap in and never bothered to make it better if they insist on this crap. Nope, instead they just went out of their way to prevent users from disabling it. Now I have to run some dumb "Reduced Motion" mode to turn it off which also means I lost ALL animations in entire browser. Even page loading animation was replaced by a still sand clock. Ugh. Ubisoft support site states PS5 lacks backward compatibility for PS3, PS2 and PS1
benthebear and one other reacted to Eddo89 for a topic
This is kind of false from the way you describe it It is not a requirement to buy to have active PSN, is just that they sat aside some PS5s for the hardcore PS4 fans so they don't have to join the queue in pre-order from other retailers, like they are definitely going to get it. There is nothing to suggest you have to be hardcore gamer to get it, it just that you are definitely going to get one if you are a hardcore enough of a gamer for Sony to set one aside for you. I won't for a second believe that Sony will be selling the majority of the consoles directly, not if they want to maintain a good relationship with the other retailers. If you are a Xbox One owner last gen, there is nothing stopping you pre-order through Amazon like casual gamers.2 points -

I am waiting to see how much Navi 2 is going to cost, so I can decide to upgrade my 1080ti to Navi 2 or simply buy PS5 but in any case Nvidia won't see a penny from me... I would imagine I would be pretty heated and swearing like crazy after being shot like that. And they called out several times and no answer. So I would imagine they would have taken that as he was not going to surrender or he may have already been dead. Door was closed and they could not see inside. Guy signed his death cert by shooting the officer and they were after him for shooting a woman 2 times a week or so earlier.1 point -

It's mask selfie pic time
Jim K reacted to Nick H. for a topic
Even a mask can't contain the beard I've grown. Here in Switzerland it's pretty relaxed, I guess. We've got to wear masks when using public transport, and when walking into a building. Strangely, if you go to a bar or restaurant you can take it off once you are sat down. Then again, how are you supposed to use their services with a mask on?1 point
