Microsoft will retain the Pentagon's $10 billion JEDI contract, beats Amazon again
The_killer and 3 others reacted to Brony for a topic
Microsoft has Azure that, while it is not as stable as Amazon AWS but it is easiest to use (and it is one of the goals of the cloud!). But my main gripe is what if we need to move outside of the cloud? Microsoft gives alternatives while most technologies of Amazon are around to use its service. Outside of the cloud, Amazon is practically a parasite of the open-source community. IMHO, Microsoft is more open-platform than Amazon and it is shocking, after all, we are talking about Microsoft. Microsoft, IBM, and Oracle are specialists in on-site installation with some pros and cons.4 points -

Forum upgrade to version 4.5
Wannes reacted to Steven P. for a topic
At 12PM CET the forum will go offline for an upgrade to 4.5 which is a major version update from our 4.4.x version. It brings with it may new features and improvements (including better moderation tools, such as banning people from a topic) you can read about some of the changes here https://invisioncommunity.com/news/company/welcome-to-invision-community-45-r1206/ (note that Matt links to individual topics about features, because there are many changes). Hopefully our upgrade will go smoothly, but if it doesn't we can always roll back. In any case please be patient while we figure out problems should they arise.1 point -

The link doesn't work for me. These questions don't make sense. You're spending too much time contemplating various degrees rather than just going for it. I went to university to get an HND (Higher National Diploma) and not once have I had to provide/use it. Which is just as well considering I didn't get it. Experience is the way forward. The longer you spend trying to figure out which certification will be best, the longer you're going to spend trying to get a job (if that's your intention).1 point -

It is not a paid for ad. I realize that, I'm not saying it is a paid ad. It reads like one. It's not a comment on form, but on substance. Perhaps this is 100% up to Neowin editorial standards, but it's not above criticism. Seems you are alone in seeing a problem with the information we're sharing here. Information sharing... ah that explains the uninspired attitude towards journalism on display here, why this "article" has just about the same amount of editorial ambition as some Joe on Facebook "sharing information" and why you have the same patronizing attitude as most Twitter "sharers of information". Says the person who can't let it go that this is not a sponsored article. Your failure to accept the answer says more about the kind of person you are.1 point -
VirtualBox 6.1.14
aphanic reacted to MS Bob 11 for a topic
I also have VMware Workstation. It is way superior at everything, especially since it has 9x guest additions, 3D acceleration for Windows 2000 and up. But I keep dual VMs for all Windows OSes - Windows 95 OSR2.5, Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000 SP5, Windows Me, Windows XP SP4, Windows Vista SP2+all updates, Windows 7 SP1+all updates, Windows 8.1 - the same VMDK disk image that works in VMware Workstation also works in VirtualBox but with different drivers. All drivers for all hardware virtualized by VMware or VirtualBox are also installed in these VMs but Windows 95 under VirtualBox for example, the working mouse support is completely useless, although the same VM works in VMware perfectly. Performance in VirtualBox is fantastic but overall hardware and driver support is far better in VMware Workstation. What other alternatives do we have? There's Hyper-V but its experience is poor due to how it connects to the VM - Remote Desktop, and guest OSes supported are very few. Virtual PC is dead - it exists only on my Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs. Oh and there's PCem for emulation, not virtualization or QEMU.1 point -

In case you forgot what your claim was: legacy code makes Windows 10 buggy. Back it up or let everyone see you are talking BS. ok then you are clueless I think the one that doesn't have the full picture or are looking at the wrong things is you @kazerrrt this time. But let's entertain this, I'm also interested in the way you measure the filesystem performance during builds (if you actually did) in a consistent manner across radically different OSes, because that'd be a feat on its own already with all of the different variables to take into account. The way the kernel handles process creation for example, that alone plays a much major role in parallel builds than the underlying filesystem. Besides, since there's no fork() system call in Windows things get trickier for Makefile-like build systems, just ask the folks implementing compatibility layers like Cygwin or MSYS2. And if you were to measure stuff just under Linux itself, what kind of NTFS implementation would be in play? To my knowledge there are a couple natively implemented in-kernel (proprietary, although Paragon is looking at getting theirs mainlined as GPL) and then NTFS-3G, which is what's usually used, but it's built atop FUSE so it'd be at a disadvantage against a(ny) native filesystem. Plus, it's not like filesystems are inmutable things, the implementation of, for example, ext4 in a recent kernel isn't the same as it was when it was first unveiled and the same is true for any other. In my opinion, your statement on NTFS making builds slower is at the very least least uninformed.1 point -

I waited this long, few more months not gonna kill me I'm holding off to, not going to day 1 buy a 3070, could be early next year that I do any type of upgrade. In my opinion they should be working on v2 already and try to get that done sooner rather than later. Besides the Snapdragon 855 is not slow, I believe 100% that if you put two devices that look exactly the same with a 855 and a 865 very, very few will even notice the difference.1 point -

any reason why? There can only be one reason why I said that. Prior to installing, SFC showed no issues. After installing it repaired issues successfully. And...did it say what issues? Or are we going off a message just telling us it did? SFC has historically been a garbage tool. Yes, it said "Your PC will turn in to an Oompa-Loompa if you keep asking what it said". Of course, it didn't say. However, it did say where to find the log file where it states what was corrupted or missing. But again, I don't bother looking because as long as my PC is working, then there is no need for me to dig further at what was corrupted or missing. You sound like the type of person who will not be taking the vaccine because you want to know how the Vaccine was designed and made so you can determine how it will affect the body (even though you have no idea or would understand how a vaccine is created). I'm afraid that's wildly incorrect. The original FLV file format employs the unpopular Sorenson Spark video codec. The video format that suddenly leaped into popularity was H.264, thanks to YouTube, which was introduced a decade before, in 2003. Both of these codecs are proprietary and their maintainers (MPEG LA and Sorenson) charged a hand and a leg for royalties. Open video standards came from Google, Xiph.org, and Matroska. The only connection that Flash ever had with HTML Video is being its competitor. HTML Video won, Flash lost, because the former was open and the latter was not.1 point -

They are "securing" it by putting out to pasture. The underlying tech is so arcane (branched off a slimmed-down version of Shockwave by MacroMedia in the early 90's) that its only chance of becoming secure is an entirely 100% re-write. And they've been doing that, in a contemporary manner, using HTML5 as the renderer. Similarly, MacroMedia Director, the programming/editing suite which compiled and output binary SWF assets before/during/after Flash, was also put to pasture in 2017. And the "Adobe Flash [Player]" became separate from Shockwave Player only because Flash (and AIR) had evolved its capabilities. Long story short: the 1990's are long over.1 point -
