EA removes ads from UFC 4 following backlash
enroh and 2 others reacted to boo_star for a topic
Putting ads in full-priced games is pathetic, so is most of the monetization that goes on nowadays for that matter. Enabling this crappy monetization after launch so that it doesn't get mentioned in reviews or affect review scores is equally pathetic, but commonplace nowadays sadly. If you're worried about a "feature" being mentioned in reviews in a negative way, perhaps you shouldn't put it in your game? Just sayin...3 points -

New finding says custom Windows 10 themes can be used to steal users' credentials
Brandon H and one other reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
Considering Microsoft forces it down your throat unless you know how to setup your account without one, i'd says most people use it. Yes, down the throat, while giving users roaming and synced Apps and settings like a modern operating system. Bad/Evil Windows - It is good that Android/ChromeOS/iOS/OS X don't shove Google/Apple accounts down anyone's throat, right? FFS MS Accounts go back to the early days of NT Server and Active Directory of Win2K for seamless installation and roaming, with users no longer locked to a computer and a computer no longer locked to a single user. Windows 10 just extends this to consumer/home users, and unlike Google, encrypts all 'profile/user' information from internal access or queries. So, ya, down our throats like a hot pool boy.2 points -

Pathetic. This pandering to the idea that people have no self-control or peronal responsibility towards their own wellbeing... OR "Work/Life Balance" was identified as a marketing-worthy buzzword and so this assinine feature was introduced just for a press release.2 points -

I love the made up numbers that analysts and researchers come up with, as they forecast future sales for various markets. Normally, the trend would be down based on the change from '19 to '20.. I wonder why they think three companies are going to increase sales during a time of worldwide recession. It's equally possible that all four will a drop in sales. Only time will tell.1 point -
Neowin.net Minecraft Server (Old Server)
Steven P. reacted to Slugsie for a topic
Firstly, thanks @Timan for hosting our MC server for so long. Also thanks @Steven P. for offering to help with a payment method going forward. Moving forward I'm OK with chipping in a few $$ a month to get our own server. However I think there are a few logistics that need to be sorted out first. Would the server only be open to paid players? Or should we make it open to anyone like now and grant paid players some tangible in game bonus (maybe the ability to switch between creative/survival for instance). Or maybe (if there is a suitable plugin) paid players have access to flight.1 point -

Microsoft is retiring Visual Studio Codespaces, users being migrated to GitHub Codespaces
dontbeevil reacted to Fleet Command for a topic
It was not a rename. Visual Studio Online was split in three ways. The original component, called "Team Foundation Services" is now Azure DevOps. The web app part, codenamed "Monaco", was becoming Visual Studio Codespaces. The third component is still there, only developers don't call it by name. They just call it "services" or "Microsoft services". If a developer starts talking to a game-crazed Xbox fan, he could say "Visual Studio online developer services", but it doesn't happen often.1 point -

quikmantx reacted to freedonX for a topic
Sounds like a very logical stance. For example, in Mexico, no Surface products are sold in stores (since Pro 4 I believe). So of course people won't be spending huge cash on something they don't know. I'm from Monterrey (3rd biggest city in the Country) and I've only seen like 4 people with Surfaces (pro and non pro). My clients stare in awe at my machine that is very different they they've never heard of. So yeah, it makes sense not to release the Duo in regions where Microsoft isn't that big1 point -
