  1. Apple disables Sign in with Apple for Epic Games accounts

Other companies like Facebook, Microsoft etc. Should stand up to Apple by pulling all their apps and make ios a bit crappy. They need to let them know that the devs are what makes them a success

AMD should be able to best Intel pretty easily, but they'll need something extravagant to one-up Nvidia.

  5. I don't care much about epic, but I hope the court rules for apple to allow third party stores! They build OS does not mean they block everyone else from making money from their OS. There is literally no other OS which does not allow you to install third party apps or stores. Epic might not be a santa but in this case people should support them not apple. If you think apples 30% cur or not allowing other app stores is helping the end user that is YOU, wake up!

  6. haha "they have used over 400 APIs" -- nevermind the fact that Apple MANDATES that you use a buttload of their APIs anyway.

  7. Apple disables Sign in with Apple for Epic Games accounts

Why? Companies like Facebook and Microsoft follow the rules and are properly compensated for that. Epic felt they were entitled to special treatment for some reason. Had Apple allowed it, it would have been a giant slap in the face to every honest developer out there. Don't let your Apple hate blinders get in the way of the facts... The app store rules have been clearly set in stone since the beginning.

  8. Nintendo reportedly asking developers to make games "4K-ready"

What kind of weird assumption is that? Of course they do. However 4K on the Switch display is indeed unnecessary, 1080p would be nice.

  9. Apple has one problem. Any damages they seek from Epic are damages they caused to themselves by canceling Epic’s developer account. Judges are not fans of law suits that waste their time. The Judge could offer a very simple solution to Apple, in order to prevent additional damages, reinstate Epic’s developer account.

  11. Apple disables Sign in with Apple for Epic Games accounts

While I don’t disagree, there’s ways of going about this and Epic has essentially started a fight, rather than trying to engage in meaningful conversation. Agreeing to the t&c’s and submitting your app, then trying to pull a fast one over Apple retrospectively is not the way to do it.

I wonder when Apple is gonna ban my iCloud account for sending pr0n pix to buds. It must violate some 28 page document I probably just clicked "Agree" to so I could continue my day.

  15. Apple countersues Epic for breach of contract, says will claim punitive damages

Agreed. By using that logic, Apple owes Microsoft millions / billions because iTunes used Windows APIs for iTunes to work on Windows. By this logic how can there be any free apps on the App Store when they too use Apple APIs. How is it that Fortnite itself is free in the app store. The base game uses all the APIs, yet the add ons people buy are mostly cosmetic changes to the base game. Let's face it, Apple just wants Epics money, 30% of it. Epic Games made $600 million... Blah blah, which means Apple made as least $200 million to do what exactly? Because iOs has APIs you say?

  16. LOL. Apple will fail so hard on this, it won't even be funny. It's almost like if the company was run by a bunch of greedy idiots. Oh, wait, it actually is...

  17. Thank you both for creating legal drama IDGAF about. Can they both lose? Epic is going full Opera with its complaint that's kinda appealing to something I agree with but mostly ends up sounding like a toddler throwing a tantrum. Meanwhile the company with compost for a logo couldn't sound any more full of itself if it tried.

  19. Apple disables Sign in with Apple for Epic Games accounts

This should be a warning never to use Apple sign-in in any 3rd party app as Apple can just void your account with a company they have a personal grudge with at any time.

I'll start registering and setting up the new server when I get home tonight and have @DaveLegg switch the DNS to the new IP when I get it and we should be back up and running before we know it

  23. There's no way Sony is coming anywhere close to the XSS in price at $299, so they have no worries on that end. And at $499, Sony will be hard pressed to undercut them, at best the PS5 will be $499 as well. If the digital edition of the PS5 is $399, I don't think MS much cares about it since they're digital console is $100 less.

  29. THIS. Epic could've just disabled IAP if they were so adamant to make a stand, deny Apple money, and enable their customers to continue playing their game! Instead, they take a huge dump on them and manipulate them to be angry at Apple all because of a % of profit Epic wants to make on all their vbucks. It's literally one greedy jackoff asking his child army to go do his bidding against the greedy giant. He's over here acting like he's Robin Hood though lol... I guess they could disable in-app purchases completely, but aren't developers not even allowed to notify users about alternative methods to making said purchases?

  30. Nintendo reportedly asking developers to make games "4K-ready"

People who own Nintendo consoles often also own other consoles, plus 4K TVs are fairly common these days. That said, I don't think this 4K support thing is going to be the real deal at all. I don't see Nintendo making such a big leap in the middle of a generation unless it's some kind of up scaling, in which case developers wouldn't need to do anything. We'll see, but I'm very doubtful.

  33. I disagree with certain parts of how App Stores (not just Apples AppStore, but also the PlayStore and similar platform specific stores) operate. I don't see the costs as the worst thing actually, but rather the complete control each appstore owner has over their platform, being able to reject and approve apps without having to give a good reason, etc. This is by far the worst thing about appstores. You can spend a year and develop a kickass app for a platform only to have it be rejected without having the right to know why, which is just crazy, and makes the app stores equivalent to dictatorship. If there's gonna be rules then they need to be clear - for everyone - at all times, and developers need to be able to get good reasons for why their app was rejected, at all times. But I disagree even more with Epic's approach and motivation in this case. They're just behaving like an entitled toddler.

  34. Nintendo reportedly asking developers to make games "4K-ready"

New model with some sort of 4k upscaling probably. I don't expect too much unless they've totally changed the hardware and dropped Tegra for something else? But I doubt it.

  35. What a strange assumption. Pretty much all new TVs now are 4K, so they're not that uncommon. Who cares if they're pushing for a pretty standard resolution at the end of 2020? Why go negative?
    2 points
  36. 4K on a screen that size? Sounds like a bit of nonsense, the only 4K output would be for TV mode and most people that buy nintendo things don't have 4K TVs. Stick to what you're good at nintendo which is making quality games, not going to more pixels over quality.

  39. PotPlayer 200908

does this not require a codec pack to play less then most popular content though? i like VLC Player because all codecs are build in (just like potplayer) however back in the day i used codec packs - i used the original MPC. No version of MPC-BE, MPC-HC requires any codecs as all the filters are built-in and based on LAVFilters. Although you can install codecs and change the configuration to use them overriding its internal filters. It has come a long way from Windows 98's mplayer2 -> mplayerc.exe by Gabest -> mpc-hc -> mpc-be -> mpc-be64. I do keep VLC installed as well as a secondary/backup player. Interesting - i will install that them as VLC interface is not my fav (though better then potplayer) and will keep VLC as a backup. Thanks! Should be the best combo for my new PC It has some really nice features I like: - Uses native Windows video pipeline with DXVA2/DXVA HD/DirectShow - Windows folder/file system based navigation so the < and > buttons directly play previous/next files in a folder without having to open a file manager or create a playlist - A thumbnail when you hover over the seek bar - Info pane for showing metadata e.g. Title, Author, Description - Can load external audio track for video - Nifty multimonitor options - Big subtitle tracks and audio track switching buttons in case a file has multiple tracks - Very customizable and skinnable UI yet fundamentally simple (here is how my player looks: https://i.imgur.com/3qlINrw.png ) - GPU indicator (very important IMHO) to indicate if hardware acceleration is active or software/CPU is being used - Can export playlists in extended M3U/Winamp/PLS/MPC formats with total duration of tracks saved to the playlist - Right click on some buttons for extra functions .e.g. right click on Stop button to Close a file, right click on Quick Open (+) button to open recent files - Can natively stream and download YouTube videos in user-specified format (although there's always YouTube-DL for advanced/cmd line users) - MPC BE's EVR Custom presenter renderer has some nice extra sharp video resizing options, but can always use madVR too. Nice post processing too with shaders - Rich options for customization (well, VLC has that too but I find VLC buggy - not everything works as it should and I don't like its UI either. VLC probably has more features overall, it too is very feature-rich but I don't like it)

  42. Just wow..... A) Epic pays fee's to both PSN and Xbox to do exactly the same thing which I have heard is 30% but they are not suing them. Consoles are 100% locked down walled gardens. B) Fortnite was not on Google play store when it came out for mobile. Epic then chose to put it on the play store and PAY the 30% IAP (same as apple) to google as they showed there was value in those store fronts by their own admission with marketing and perceived security and it was worth the fee then they got booted for doing exactly the same thing on Play store as they did to the app store. C) Dont like the rent costs, MOVE! if everyone charges the same rent then at least try and claim its ALL rigged and not just 1 company but I suppose they cant go after sony as sony have shares...

  43. So in sum, Apple is crying a river about its image and how EPIC is the true villain. Apple is truly clueless; it is a civil case instead of a criminal case. Why Apple wants to open its own pandora box.? For example, it claims that Epic won +600m, and EPIC is not the Robin Hood that it claims to be (where?). So, EPIC could say: how much Apple earned? (and Apple will be forced to divulge it), followed by a: EPIC won +600m, but we spend +600m; how much Apple spends on putting a single product virtually on the store?. (note it will lead that Apple did an unfair deal, and checkmate for Apple) Also, EPIC could compare itself with Android and Windows, for example, to say that they earned over a billion in Windows, so comparatively speaking, EPIC earned less with Apple. In this case, Apple is an abusive landlord, while EPIC is the annoying junkie living there. Then this junkie was kicked out because he decided not to pay the whole rent. And it would have been the end of the story. But the junkie decided to whine publicity against the landlord, and the landlord decides (in his big wisdom), to sue him. Sooner or later, the judge will found that the landlord rented a shi*** place at an abusive price. The junkie could be annoying but he still has rights. Also, the landlord owns the whole building and most tenants are junkies.

  46. After thinking a bit more, if they target 1440 as the actual internal rendering resolution, then you'd be right. One-third of X's flops won't be enough for the same graphical fidelity. It would be at 1080 though. Why did they even mention 1440p? Are there even 1440p TVs? It's possible that the internal resolution is actually 1080 and anything higher is upscaled. I hope they are smart enough to go this route, or maybe not. We'll learn soon enough.

  48. If you think that's bad, look at the Ember coffee mugs. I had to do a day one firmware update to get it to work right with the Android app and it failed repeatedly. I - had - to - do - a - firmware - update - to - my - coffee - mug! It was a gift, I wouldn't have purchased one. The best thing about it was showing it to people and telling them that I had to do a firmware update on my coffee cup. And the fact that when you first open the package you are greeted with a warning to not get the saucer wet because it charges by direct contact. It does keep coffee warm, but so would any rechargeable coffee mug. Did I mention I had to do a firmware update on my coffee mug?

First, you say it is better than the way that Firefox handles, but then, you purport that the scope of the issue is restricted to the blamable users who need to be saved from themselves! To wit, these people down "driver updaters" of all things! Interesting. It appears you have a psychological obligation to trash Firefox to the benefit of your preferred browser. That said, it is neither better nor worse than Firefox, but exactly the same.
