An Atheist
Matthew S. and 2 others reacted to jnelsoninjax for a topic
An atheist is walking along the bank of Loch Ness, suddenly, out of the depths appears Nessie. She snatched the atheist up in her jaws and threw her head back, throwing him up in the air. Just before the atheist fell into Nessie's jaws he cries out "Oh god help me!" Amazingly, time froze and God appeared next to the atheist. God asked: "My son, all your life you have forsaken me, why now do you call upon me?"3 points -

You know, there are plenty of live webcams anyone can check out and see that the city is not burning down, it actually looks quite normal. Also plenty of posts from actual residents showing videos and photos of life in the city which surprisingly is not a scene from a Mad Max movie. Even the Portland fire department have disputed Trump's nonsense. Yes, there have been small pockets of people setting fires but that's far from the entire city going up in flames the way certain networks portray it. So again, no, the city is not burning.3 points -

In before right wingers cry censorship. Fact checking isnt censorship. They aren't taking down your tweets or silencing you, they're putting facts underneath your tweet. Its no one's fault that you don't believe in facts or science. If you want to see actual censorship, look at right wing platforms like Parler who ban people just for being left wing or for presenting factual information. If you've been banned on twitter, its because you tried to do something that could result in violence or real life harm, and its just well known that this behavior is more prevalent on the right.2 points -

Most likely using existing frameworks out there. I doubt its a 100% from the ground up build. NASA Orion crew exploration vehicle (updates)
Unobscured Vision and one other reacted to DocM for a topic
Once/if the Blue Origin BE-4 engine gets sorted out, the Blue Origin New Glenn or the ULA Vulcan-Centaur 5 Long Heavy (larger upper stage tanks & 6 solid boosters), but those are delayed by Blue Origin's BE-4 engine problems. A key event will be a full Starship update in late October. While they're testing the SN-05 and SN-06 propulsion modules for short hops, the ramp to high altitude testing and skydiver landing tests is accelerating; SN-08 to SN-11 are already being built, all full airframes, and the tanks for Super Heavy #1 are already under construction. The High Bay (vehicle assembly building) is being topped off, and the orbital launch table is also well along. Its 6 legs are almost ready for their concrete pours. That update should be fun. The huge volume of air in a Crew Starship (850-1000 cubic meters vs. 10 for Crew Dragon) would provide a huge buffer. A 4 person crew could survive weeks with nothing more than fans to keep the air circuculating, CO2 scrubbers, filters, humidity control and a supplementary O2 tank. More than enough for lunar missions. Also pack a couple microwave ovens, freezers for frozen meals, and two of Crew Dragon's toilets (one of each a spare). Mars would need a more involved recycling environmental control system, and they have been working on one. So has a team of Honeywell and Paragon SDC, both ISS contractors, for commercial exploration vehicles.2 points -

Apple disables Sign in with Apple for Epic Games accounts

Why? Companies like Facebook and Microsoft follow the rules and are properly compensated for that. Epic felt they were entitled to special treatment for some reason. Had Apple allowed it, it would have been a giant slap in the face to every honest developer out there. Don't let your Apple hate blinders get in the way of the facts... The app store rules have been clearly set in stone since the beginning. You are only sounding like a fan boy. This only started because of apple has multiple anti dev, competition and consumer terms of service. It all started with the Microsoft xcloud. Stop making excuses because you are a fanboy. They have to change their ways else other giants should start pulling their apps as a form of protest2 points -
Apple disables Sign in with Apple for Epic Games accounts
300z and one other reacted to Benjimooler for a topic
While I don’t disagree, there’s ways of going about this and Epic has essentially started a fight, rather than trying to engage in meaningful conversation. Agreeing to the t&c’s and submitting your app, then trying to pull a fast one over Apple retrospectively is not the way to do it. The fight started when Apple screwed Microsoft over xcloud. There are some terms or practice Apple does that is unacceptable. They are anti dev and anti consumers and its a shame that consumers are taking their side. A lot of things has to change in the way they do business2 points -

Apple disables Sign in with Apple for Epic Games accounts
300z and one other reacted to pickytech for a topic
This is a pretty big attack on Epic. Like many things Apple does under the guise of the App Store, companies are forced to allow "Sign In with Apple" as-of iOS 13 (the existing version, so for the past year). That means for an app like Fortnite that they have hundreds of thousands of users with exclusively that type of sign on. If Apple can terminate your app and kill access to your app for 100% of those users, then they're really abusing their position. This is clearly intended to hurt Epic's users and Epic by extension. This clearly doesn't help users and it only further shows that Apple having so much strict control is for anti-competitive reasons rather than just to help users (I still think their privacy goals surrounding "Sign In with Apple" are good, but clearly not 100% good).2 points -

Samsung Galaxy M51 with Snapdragon 730G and 7,000mAh battery launched in India
MateerL reacted to MS Bob 11 for a topic
That's the clever strategy of tech companies like Samsung. They never put all their eggs in one basket these days. The "flagships" get all the bells and whistles - curved edges, in-display fingerprint, notches and holes, only wireless audio options - features which the Wall Street journalists and fashionistas worship because the phone looks "sexy" and you get an opportunity to pay them insane amounts of money for showing off the latest and greatest status symbol. The lower end phones get useful, practical features like 3.5mm jack option, bigger battery, often an "ordinary" dedicated fingerprint reader, no curved edge nonsense and still a fairly decent camera (since if you can manage to get GCam working on it, the software makes the huge difference on a fairly decent sensor), even if not the greatest one. Just don't buy what they are selling as flagship.1 point -

EA Play joins the Xbox Game Pass subscription across consoles and PC
Danielx64 reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
With hours spent finding bugs and fixing the Store for games, I have to mostly agree. The 'good' side of this, with more users depending on the store, all the fringe crazy ###### should finally get fixed or at least attention with workarounds published. This should also help push the release schedule of backing up games on Windows, or making multiple copy locations like the Xbox offers. Side Note - Personal tip for readers: For both Xbox and PC, I archive everything to external drives. So on Xbox, in Games/Install or Media - copy every game and addon to an external drive (backup/archive). This can always then be copied back to the Xbox or to the drive you normally run the game from. Simple but handy when an update scrambles a 100GB install or if you need to unload games to free space and want to reload the game later on. On PC, this is not as easy for Store Games. Boot into WinRE - Command Prompt Go to- \program files\windowsapps and then xcopy /d or robocopy /mir to a folder on your external drive. When you want to install one of these games back to a windows PC, start the download from the Store, Pause it, restart to WinRE - Command Prompt - find the newest folders added in WindowsApps and replace their contents from the same folder on the external drive. The benefit of having the archives, is that you don't have to download 150GB to do a new install or fix a broken install. Users on slow internet connections, doing these backups could save days of time, and makes a scrambled Windows Install become less of a time sink. (There are better and more complete guides on the web, do a search, this is just an idea of how to do it easily and without fighting permissions. )1 point -
Certifications vs Degree?
spikey_richie reacted to shockz for a topic
It really doesn't matter if your 1994 A+ doesn't expire, the material you are certified for is completely obsolete. Sure, some low level stuff is still relevant, but I probably wouldn't even bother putting that on a resume. Which is the same reason as to why a technical degree someone got in 2000 is also basically obsolete without continuing education/experience that should be notated on a resume. In order to stay competitive and up to date, you should be re-certified in relevant, current technologies. And/or have the resume to back up your experience to ensure you're still current. I've had to participate in new hire decisions, and if I see a resume with only decades old certs, as well as them being lower on the totem pole in their prior positions, that'll certainly wave a red flag in terms of who I want to bring in for an interview.1 point
