  1. Not defending China here, but they don't ban anything outright all the time. Their stance has mostly been, "Comply to our rules or GTFO", similar to what the US is doing here. It is the individual companies that choose not to do so. Edit: They do ban stuff when you stoke the ego of the CCP, but hey US isn't a free market champion either.

  5. New leak reveals PlayStation 5 box contents

That's the problem right there. Brand loyalism is a useless construct that almost always ends up hurting the customer. You should buy based on the quality of the product itself and what it offers. I bought a PS4 two years ago, and the main reason wasn't sony but the fact that they released nice exclusives after their lackluster early titles. If I don't like PS5's exclusives, then no purchase from me. P.S. there are horror stories on the MS side too.

  7. Also, what's the App Store experience supposed to be if 2, 3, or more different cloud streaming services offer the same game? Is the same game going to be listed multiple times? This isn't a theoretical question: Destiny 2 is available on xCloud and Stadia today.

  8. TV shows and movies aren’t interactive. They’re also not actively asking for microtransactions… Yes they are now, and there are also non-streaming purchasing options, just like micro-transactions BTW microtransactions need to be reigned in, and yet here is Apple screwing over partners and developers to push them even more.

  9. Has anyone ever noticed that the only people who talk about Trump Derangement Syndrome are the Faux News suckers projecting their own derangement in support of this textbook malignant narcissistic, infamous charlatan, and proven pathological liar? They are also the kind of people who confuse truthful criticism of this utterly incompetent and despicable ignoramus as somehow "defending" the object of his childish tantrums of the day, rather than actually being informed on the topic and understanding why President Pretend is specifically targeting this one company, amongst all others, just to assuage the perceived slight to his impossibly fragile ego. As for me, I like it when the ignorant, gullible, and cowardly self-identify for all of us to see.

  11. Apple must clearly know how ridiculous that is. Makes me wonder if Apple are developing their own game streaming service and stalling for time until its ready, to then change the rules. Possibly to stop Google or Microsoft becoming the dominant game streaming platform on iOS before Apple's service has even launched. Either way by that logic Netflix should have an app for every series and movie they wish to stream.

Yeah, watchin a few vids, it seem to go from "hiccups" to "it gets worse..." I hope a lot of the issues get fixed out through updates at least. Hopefully they're already at work on improvements too on a v2.

As a loyal Sony customer for many years, after a disastrous experience with Sony customer support regarding an online purchase, I'll be buying an Xbox Series X. The guy effectively said - with the amount of stuff you've bought, there is no way you'll move away from the Sony platform; I'm not helping you. Wrong! Love it when a monopoly goes bad!

  19. While the Chinese are ######, this fact is irrelevant to Trump's latest presidential temper tantrum. He's selectively applying rules he just yanked out of his fat ass because the users of TikTok epically trolled this idiot regarding the Tulsa rally and he can't go after thousands of teenagers. Trump specifically made it clear that his "order" doesn't affect all of the other computer related businesses these Chinese parent companies do in the USA, from video games (re: Riot, Activision/Blizzard, etc.) on down, so that makes it really obvious what his agenda really is here. Any judge is going to injunction this arbitrary nonsense until after the election. But instead of selling out on his whim, the Chinese could just shutter TikTok for a few months until Biden can clean this mess up too. I'm all for an adult examination of our relationship with China. But the idiot Trump isn't even capable of understanding the scope or nature of the problem. Better for the adults in the room to handle this next year.

  21. Apple revises App Store guidelines to allow game streaming apps, but with caveats

No problem with what you just said except that all browsers on iOS are using WebKit so realistically if Safari didn't support something no competing browser could. You're ignoring some performance penalty that comes with using browser as a game interface though I doubt the performance would be substantially better in an app.

  22. lol. At just a glance of my watch, I can see a litany of information... next calendar event, weather in the next 30 mins, set timers, toggle routines, log activity, etc... way easier than taking my phone out of my pocket, unlocking it, and launching the respective app to do whatever I could just tap immediately on my watch screen. The health implications of an Apple Watch are also beneficial... i.e high heart rate alert when not doing anything, EKGs, etc.... Gym is also great... can leave the phone in locker/home... and for things like working out, I love not having my phone flopping around my gym shorts or tied to my arm on a the treadmill and yet still can listen/control music.

You're ignoring some performance penalty that comes with using browser as a game interface though I doubt the performance would be substantially better in an app. WebKit is just the rendering engine, which supports streaming video. The controller is the input device, which could be used by the browser to send commands. If there's a performance penalty for that I'm not sure what it would be but they should try it. It's possible to play more complex games on the browser with good reaction time despite whatever limitations webkit has so something simpler like this should work well. Cloud gaming is more than streaming video... No, not really, and definitely not by much. You know you can play Stadia on your browser. How could you make such an asinine statement?

Look, I don't know where you've been the last 25 years, but no Democrat or Republican politician has given two asses about China and how they were destroying the American manufacturing sector. Clinton started it, Bush enhanced it, and Obama just didn't care. Romney wouldn't have changed anything, Hillary wouldn't have, McCain etc. I don't know where you get this notion that somehow if Biden and his Democrats win, then magically they will become adults and handle China properly. There is literally nothing in Biden's 50 year record to show he will do anything to China. The US government didn't care about China until Trump came in, therefore the so called adult examination of our relationship you call for only happened because of Trump, not anybody else. Dial the TDS down.

  35. Funny how in 1990 there was no '1.0' to worry about. The games just arrived, fully finished and bug free. Blows your mind huh? Nothing back then was in any way near the complexity it is today. As for bug free? Sure, I can see you believing that.

  36. Disagree. I just got one and I love it. Had an Android wear watch since the Moto 360. It's great when you get a text message or email. You can just look at the watch and see what it was. lol. you have a phone... more convenient and you wont strain your eyes struggling to read an email. Ya, It's not so much reading the email as it is knowing what email just came in. If the phone is in your pocket and you get a text message just can just look at your watch and read it. If you want to reply, in the case of the apple watch you just press the microphone button and talk and it instantly converts what you said to text and you press send.

  40. Whoa hold up now. I thought Flight Sim 2020 was for Windows 10 only, because of DX12... or something. Now you're telling me it's a DX11 game, but is simply "banned" from running on Win 7 because MS hates people who didn't take them up on their free downgrade to Win 10? As a software developer, let me tell you that it is a headache and costs a lot to support multiple versions of operating systems, not to mention being held back on using new features because of a few holdouts. It's always a tough decision to make, but it's usually not worth it to cater to a dwindling 5% of your customer base to increase your costs in terms of lines of code and test coverage. Windows 7 is obsolete and it's beyond time to move on. Funny, it still works better than Win10. I run windows 10 as a virtual pc just to stay in the loop, and to try and get used to the god-awful UI/UX... unfortunately the 2004 update broke it and it crashes constantly now. On the plus side, the crashes come with smiley faces now, so no hard feelings. *In your head. In objective testing, if you have 2GB of RAM or more and a dual core CPU - Windows 10 is faster, and much faster with 64bit, and actually can use the newer CPU and GPU features that just are flat out ignored and not used on Windows 7. If you enjoy 7 - great, enjoy it, but don't insist that everyone else modifies reality to fit your experience. It could be one weird ass or partially functioning piece of hardware in a system to give the illusion 7 is better/faster. This happened with WinXP when people with Modems using a shared IRQ on Win9x found the modem no longer worked under WinXP as low level IRQ sharing was not possible under the NT model. WinXP was better and faster and the modems worked fine, they just needed to be installed properly and set the damn jumper to an unused IRQ.

Now you're telling me it's a DX11 game, but is simply "banned" from running on Win 7 because MS hates people who didn't take them up on their free downgrade to Win 10? DX 11.x - notice the .x part? Nothing past 11.0 works 100% on Windows 7. How do people see technical issues and hardware/driver limitations as some conspiracy? Microsoft could have released this for Windows 7, as they even did some DX11.x and even DX12 backporting to Windows 7. However, support for Windows 7 is dead, it is SLOWER than Windows 10 - especially in games - it doesn't support newer GPU or CPU technologies and on and on. Also for reference, this game is coming out on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S as well.

  42. This project started, there was only DX 11 - and was designed around a DX11 base specifically, which is a good thing, as DX11 and DX12 are designed to work hand in hand. The project plans are to add DX12 performance and feature support. I would have loved that DX12 features were already in place for the initial release, with DXR and other newer features. (Many of the DX12 non-performance features are kind of new and fit in the 'ultimate' bucket.) However, considering that this is the most ambitious data/graphic project in the history of computing, it is probably ok they took time to stabilize everything before adding new core rendering technologies. There are CPU/GPU communication limitations, and a lot of performance differences, that are apparent in that it does not run as well as it could, and is just kind of 'ok/good' on most hardware and doesn't 'shine' on high end hardware. They are doing something kind of good/cool and as long as they are going forward with DX12 and other new features, I'm ok with how it is now, and impressed, and willing to see where it goes.

  43. This project has been in development for nearly 5 years before release. Was DX12 even a thing then? Asobo has stated that a DX 12 version will be forthcoming, I'm glad they released it now, warts and all. They'll polish it as they go along, as it was also stated that FS would have a 10 year life.

  45. Scared of what? It created negative ripples in the developer and technical communities, with many scrambling to turn off or not rely on Apple ID. The loss of 'complete' developer control is not something Apple has been used to for over a decade now, and I sure it scared someone there. It also got some bad press. Sources needed. Every developer knows that Apple ID sign in requires an active developer account of which Epic does not have for Fortnite. How that equates to negative ripples in the developer community is behind me and needs explanation on your part. Every developer might be aware of that fact. Every user might not be aware, most I would argue, use it out of convenience. Users like myself, see the removal of the ability to log into my Epic account with my AppleID, a reaction to the law suit between Apple and Epic. I don't side with Apple on this one. Ok--what I posted was dealing with the developers comment. Ignorance amongst users on why it was done is not relevant to what I was discussing. Not siding with Apple is your prerogative. It doesn't change that having an account is a condition of using the sign in process. I don't disagree that bad PR can come of it, but that, again, was not what I took issue with. Bad PR is already afoot for both Apple and Epic right now.
