Report: Chinese government would rather see TikTok U.S. shut down than being forcefully sold
300z and 7 others reacted to Tuskd for a topic
Not defending China here, but they don't ban anything outright all the time. Their stance has mostly been, "Comply to our rules or GTFO", similar to what the US is doing here. It is the individual companies that choose not to do so. Edit: They do ban stuff when you stoke the ego of the CCP, but hey US isn't a free market champion either.8 points -

That's the problem right there. Brand loyalism is a useless construct that almost always ends up hurting the customer. You should buy based on the quality of the product itself and what it offers. I bought a PS4 two years ago, and the main reason wasn't sony but the fact that they released nice exclusives after their lackluster early titles. If I don't like PS5's exclusives, then no purchase from me. P.S. there are horror stories on the MS side too.4 points -

Also, what's the App Store experience supposed to be if 2, 3, or more different cloud streaming services offer the same game? Is the same game going to be listed multiple times? This isn't a theoretical question: Destiny 2 is available on xCloud and Stadia today.4 points -

TV shows and movies aren’t interactive. They’re also not actively asking for microtransactions… Yes they are now, and there are also non-streaming purchasing options, just like micro-transactions BTW microtransactions need to be reigned in, and yet here is Apple screwing over partners and developers to push them even more.4 points -

Has anyone ever noticed that the only people who talk about Trump Derangement Syndrome are the Faux News suckers projecting their own derangement in support of this textbook malignant narcissistic, infamous charlatan, and proven pathological liar? They are also the kind of people who confuse truthful criticism of this utterly incompetent and despicable ignoramus as somehow "defending" the object of his childish tantrums of the day, rather than actually being informed on the topic and understanding why President Pretend is specifically targeting this one company, amongst all others, just to assuage the perceived slight to his impossibly fragile ego. Apple must clearly know how ridiculous that is. Makes me wonder if Apple are developing their own game streaming service and stalling for time until its ready, to then change the rules. Possibly to stop Google or Microsoft becoming the dominant game streaming platform on iOS before Apple's service has even launched. Either way by that logic Netflix should have an app for every series and movie they wish to stream.3 points -

Report: Chinese government would rather see TikTok U.S. shut down than being forcefully sold
300z and one other reacted to excalpius for a topic
While the Chinese are ######, this fact is irrelevant to Trump's latest presidential temper tantrum. He's selectively applying rules he just yanked out of his fat ass because the users of TikTok epically trolled this idiot regarding the Tulsa rally and he can't go after thousands of teenagers. Trump specifically made it clear that his "order" doesn't affect all of the other computer related businesses these Chinese parent companies do in the USA, from video games (re: Riot, Activision/Blizzard, etc.) on down, so that makes it really obvious what his agenda really is here. Any judge is going to injunction this arbitrary nonsense until after the election. But instead of selling out on his whim, the Chinese could just shutter TikTok for a few months until Biden can clean this mess up too. I'm all for an adult examination of our relationship with China. But the idiot Trump isn't even capable of understanding the scope or nature of the problem. Better for the adults in the room to handle this next year.2 points -

No problem with what you just said except that all browsers on iOS are using WebKit so realistically if Safari didn't support something no competing browser could. lol. At just a glance of my watch, I can see a litany of information... next calendar event, weather in the next 30 mins, set timers, toggle routines, log activity, etc... way easier than taking my phone out of my pocket, unlocking it, and launching the respective app to do whatever I could just tap immediately on my watch screen. The health implications of an Apple Watch are also beneficial... i.e high heart rate alert when not doing anything, EKGs, etc.... Gym is also great... can leave the phone in locker/home... and for things like working out, I love not having my phone flopping around my gym shorts or tied to my arm on a the treadmill and yet still can listen/control music.2 points -

Trump did the usual and spat his dummy out. Kids pranked his campaign. They did this through the Tick Tock app and it was a huge embarrassment for Trump. He was boasting of record 1 million (I think) numbers for the Tulsa rally. Shortly after that, Trump suddenly had a problem with Tick Tock. There is no way this was a coincidence. I bet Tick Tock wasn't even on his radar before that.1 point -

It's weird that you can use PS4 remote play for all of this, switching games within the remote play app and not having a separate store listing for each of your games. Somehow you can't use xCloud for the same thing. You can use the remote play interface to purchase a game through the PSN store without a cut to Apple. You can subscribe to PSNow through the iOS remote play app and then stream PSNow to your iOS device. Somehow Apple thinks one is OK and the other is not?1 point -

Isn't it interesting how corporations love "sustainability" and "going green", but then keep churning out this e-waste? Unless legislation forces them change, nothing will happen. EDIT: Something I forgot: Low repairability score also means the device is unlikely to get properly recycled. Since it's glued together, it's nearly impossible to disassemble, and it won't get broken down into its component parts by a recycler, and it will probably just go in a landfill as-is.1 point -

Exactly. But what's worse than the teens trolling Trump.... is that the Trump campaign believed it. Trump has held hundreds of rallies... have they ever got a million requests for tickets? Ever? No problem with what you just said except that all browsers on iOS are using WebKit so realistically if Safari didn't support something no competing browser could. You're ignoring some performance penalty that comes with using browser as a game interface though I doubt the performance would be substantially better in an app. WebKit is just the rendering engine, which supports streaming video. The controller is the input device, which could be used by the browser to send commands. If there's a performance penalty for that I'm not sure what it would be but they should try it. It's possible to play more complex games on the browser with good reaction time despite whatever limitations webkit has so something simpler like this should work well.1 point -
U.S. President Donald Trump says no extension will be given to TikTok's deadline
fco reacted to Jazmac for a topic
Tiktok users probably aren't voters anyways. neither are trump supporters. They just like trump because he hates what they hate. That doesn't even make any sense. Most trump supporters *are* trump supporters because they voted for him. Point is, if I have to be more clear for you, trump is a racist. And racists love the fact that he is a racist. Nothing beyond that matters. But again, nothing about him or his supporters make sense. Moreover, if President Obama was responsible for the deaths of 190,000 PLUS Americans and found out he LIED about its severity the entire time, not even democrats would support President Obama. I can promise you that. But trump supporters still support trump in spite of fact that he used the US military on Americans and said nothing when told another nation is targeting American soldiers for money. And that makes no sense.1 point -

U.S. President Donald Trump says no extension will be given to TikTok's deadline
Skyfrog reacted to excalpius for a topic
I'm not saying it wasn't china before but I am saying if you actually watched Trump got drastically harder on TikTok after that rally incident, it was almost over night and even his own people complained about it on camera when asked why no one really went to that rally... not saying that was what happened to cause it to suddenly increase, just odd how it did happen right after In the end of june that happened, even the NY Times ran a story called "TikTok Teens Tank Trump Rally in Tulsa" just a week later Trump said he would probably ban it, a couple more weeks he said he definitely would ban it, before that it was just proposed... it's just odd timing... Precisely. Trump suckers can pretend this is actually about "Chiynah", but Trump isn't actively bashing any other Chinese companies these days, let alone selecting them for this ridiculous "you aren't allowed anymore" blackmail crapola. And his temper tantrum ban explicitly excludes all of the gaming companies and countless other investments of the parent companies which could be just as problematic if this was actually about spying concerns. The specific choice of TikTok is obviously because he got epically trolled in Tulsa by teens using the app and he can't go after the teenagers who actually did the trolling. It hurt President Malignant Narcissist in the feels and that's why he's throwing this latest childish temper tantrum. Now, why anyone here is ignorant, gullible, and cowardly enough to still be defending this utterly reprehensible pathological liar, textbook malignant narcissist, and infamous charlatan is not really the matter at hand.1 point -
Microsoft Flight Simulator patch #2 highlights unveiled, release imminent
Ve7878 reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
Whoa hold up now. I thought Flight Sim 2020 was for Windows 10 only, because of DX12... or something. Now you're telling me it's a DX11 game, but is simply "banned" from running on Win 7 because MS hates people who didn't take them up on their free downgrade to Win 10? more like; mainstream support for Windows 7 has ended so why would Microsoft's own game development team be required to officially support it? It's as simple as that. Because the vast majority of current games do support it, and something like 30% of the world still runs it, because it's better than Windows 10 in many ways? Most new games do not support it anymore, especially games that are using engines designed around DX 11.x+ features that are impossible or only 'approximated' in software on Windows 7, instead of fully working in hardware. Guess what, It also doesn't run on Windows 3.1 or NT 4 or CPM. They don't support the frameworks or hardware technologies. Microsoft makes this look easy with compatibility of NT that spans generations. If this was OS X or PS4 or Linux or anything other than Windows, people wouldn't even consider demanding everything runs on old crap.1 point -
