Apple announces new iPads bringing Pro features to lower-cost tablets
tsupersonic and 10 others reacted to Astra.Xtreme for a topic
I mean, feel free to go spend $329 on any Android tablet of your choice and see how it compares to an iPad. Yes, because buying either of these two lousy worthless products proves...what exactly? Give it a rest... We get it; you don't like Apple products. The millions of people that buy them every year prove that they're useful and profitable products. Go find somebody else that cares about your mindless complaining...11 points -
Sony reduces PS5 production by 4 million units due to yield issues
dead.cell and 5 others reacted to dirtyvu for a topic
yields are probably due to the last minute changes to the PS5 target clocks. in all rumors, the PS5 was intended to be a 9 TFLOPs machine for consistent performance. but when it was found out the Xbox Series X would be a 12 TFLOPs machine, Sony had to depend on the AMD SmartShift technology where you can increase/decrease GPU/CPU clocks within a TDP threshold. Then Sony was able to convince Sony gamers that its advertised peaks were normal. But it's like a teeter totter. You can't have both peak GPU clocks at the same time as peak CPU clocks. It's one or the other in order to keep within threshold. So they're advertising 10 TFLOPs, 3.5 GHz CPU and 2.23 GHz GPU clocks even though you can't have those numbers at the same time. And yet gamers are comparing those numbers against the Xbox Series X numbers when the Series X numbers are constant. And the reason why they had to depend on advertising peak numbers is because the PS5 only has 36 compute units compared to the Series X which has 52 CUs. This is similar to what happened with the Xbox One and PS4. When it was revealed that the Xbox One had a CU deficit of 12 compute units versus the PS4 18 CUs, Microsoft had to boost the clocks as far as possible to narrow the gap but 18 CUs beats 12 CUs no matter how high you clock. And yet the gap between the Xbox One and PS4 was only 0.5 TFLOPs. but the realistic gap between the PS5 and the Xbox Series X is 3 TFLOPs.6 points -
Origin client on PC is becoming the EA Desktop app
matthiew and 4 others reacted to Suurin_ for a topic
> The EA Desktop app is being designed to deliver a frictionless and socially connected experience that is faster for players to get into their games I feel this same experience can be done by not requiring your game launcher be used for purchases made on Steam. When that's done and done then it will truly be a frictionless and will still be a socially connected experience.5 points -

"All of that is signaled by creating a common and consistent brand that is centered around EA and what EA stands for, and what signals it is this inflection about how EA stands for bringing your players together around the games they want to play on the platforms they want to play on. So yeah, it's not just a name change. It really signals an ethos that is critically important to us and that we know that's important to our players." Blah blah brand blah blah inflection blah blah together blah blah ethos. What a load of complete waffle. Make a lightweight launcher that LAUNCHES GAMES, and has simple access to the store. That's it. I can't believe I am actually saying it, but apart from GOG Galaxy (which is my go-to app for using my games library) Uplay is the least intrusive of all the big name launchers right now.2 points -

You are confusing a Windows feature for checking filesystems with hardware error reporting. They are naturally going to give different results depending on the issue. Windows cares about filesystems. SMART cares about hardware. From the sounds of it, it was an unrecoverable filesystem error. The OP needs to look at data recovery utilities and not dwell on the differences between these. Lets move on, yes?1 point -

Sony reduces PS5 production by 4 million units due to yield issues
Elliot B. reacted to architect1337 for a topic
It's more likely Sony restricting availability so that it appears to be more desirable. This is a common marketing strategy used for luxury goods of this type and is used to offset higher pricing. I suspect Sony have been thrown by the Xbox Series S low price and realise their initial pricing was more than the XBox Series X so resort to this. Could work for them if people fall for it.1 point -

Xbox Game Pass cloud gaming launches with over 150 games
Mobius Enigma reacted to George P for a topic
I have heard rumblings of a couple of things. The first one is NVidia and AMD having a cow with older hardware and low end integrated GPUs being seen as an alternative to hardware upgrades. I think they are being a bit 'crazy' as gamers will are going to use this on notebook/tablets that would not be upgraded anyway. There is also a bit of debate whether a PC/Desktop client will compete with Xbox Series S sales specifically, since it is just $10 more a month over the Pass subscription. (Which I think users would do anyway, if there is a desktop client or not.) These are very much rumors, that are possibly already resolved if they were accurate earlier this year. However, it would explain the feet dragging on the PC App - which has been in beta for a while, and a rather simple App client because of the technologies in Windows. Those sound like valid points but I don't think a PC streaming app will hurt nVidia or AMD GPU sales, like you said it'll be used on lower end hardware that can't be upgraded anyways. Like my pretty old HP laptop with intel HD iGPU, it's one of those funky 1366x768 (if I remember the res right), systems, it can't play the games I want to play on it by a long shot. Besides I see streaming as a type of way to upsell you on buying actual hardware and playing locally in the end. Not so much a replacement for local.1 point -
