  7. PlayStation 5 will cost $499, Digital Edition comes in at $399

Prices are what everyone thought, date was more of a surprise but w/e, the show itself was weak. The one big first party game that's coming out with the PS5, spiderman sequel, is also coming to PS4, so, yay? No need to actually get a new system till next year it looks like.

  8. PlayStation 5 will cost $499, Digital Edition comes in at $399

Physical edition is the best value. You can resell games after you have finished them on Craigslist or eBay. You can't do that with the digital edition. I bought TLOU2 on release day, and sold it 2 weeks later for pretty much the same amount I paid for it sans taxes. Also physical games will have more sales and discounts from big box retail stores compared to the digital ones.

  9. Introducing the newest PhD

Hi All, Just wanted to announce that I successfully defended my dissertation and am now a PhD in Nursing Education. Took 5 years of intense doctorate level to get it, but now I am in the world of health care research and new informatics technology. Still working in the same large level-one university hospital with all kinds of patients (including COVID-19 ones). Just wanted to share this milestone. 😊

  12. I highly doubt you'll be able to connect your hard drive to play PS5 games, albeit I think it's possible for PS4 ones. No USB Hard drive is fast enough to deliver the right speeds for any of the consoles. Sony didn't support external hard drives for the PS4 generation. For the PS5 generation, they are supporting it for storage. On the Xbox side, they've always supported external hard drives and it's been super convenient, being able to move the hard drive from console to console. It's funny that Sony gamers used to make fun of external hard drives and now they have to use them. And I think this gen, all consoles will be using the same storage strategy. On my Xbox One X, I have a 500 GB external SSD as my primary drive that I run games from. I store all my games that I play all the time as well as the newest games. But I store all my games on my 10 TB external HDD. And so if there's a game I haven't played for awhile but have an itch for, I copy it over to my 500 GB drive to play. The reason why this strategy is so great is I don't have to erase games and redownload them (because they're so huge). And it also lets me play games while I move the 10 TB hard drive to a console in another room. the internal hard drive on my Xboxes are for storing apps like Netflix. And for my secondary consoles, I use the internal to play the game. My 10 TB is just a repository.

  24. Spotify pays Apple the same amount as every other Apple developer: $99 yearly to get access to developer tools, a storefront, webhosting, bandwith, patch management, store marketing, and much more. That's a steal for $99 yearly. Say what?. First, every developer must pay $99 every year. Then, if you sell your application, via IAP, service or it is a paid application, then Apple gets a %40 cut of it. Square charges 2.6% + 10c per use but it is for a different market (but for scale how much Apple earns from it). Commonly, the profit margin of a service is 30%-40%, so Apple is getting the whole profit margin. Then, if you want to be "editor pick", then you must paid to Apple. About bandwidth, Amazon charges: Next 100 TB / Month$0.07 per GB 100TB = $70 tl/dr: Apple hates other business but its own butt. Wrong. Every developer ACCOUNT must pay $99. Spotify only uses ONE DEVELOPER account to publish their client. Thus there is only need to pay for ONE account. Also, Apple charges 30% of in-app purchases, not 40%. Amazon's bandwith isn't comparable. It doesn't include redundancy and everything else. It's purely barebones, and transit redundancy and security is up to the customer to figure out. Amazon takes no responsebility for anything, not even their own servers. Having worked with AWS for years and being AWS Professional level certified for a while, and having worked directly with AWS many times, I kinda have some hands on experience with how little responsebility they take (none). Heck, half the time they don't even push out alerts when they decide to replace a physical server that you might be hosting something critical on. But thats fine, cause that's one of the terms, it's up to the customer to make sure that they have redundancy and failsafes in place.... So you CANNOT in any way shape or form compare the hosting and bandwith costs from AWS to a marketplace like the AppStore, which handles _every_ responsebility for their customers.

  26. The anti-competitve part probably comes from the fee that spotify has to pay to apple, which apple doesn't pay at all (since they keep 100% of the profits), so apple will always be able to undercut spotify. Apple doesn’t get any fee from Spotify at all. Spotify doesn’t offer any in-app purchases for their subscriptions. Spotify is just enjoying a free ride on apples infrastructure and bandwidth. Not sure how anyone can complain about free hosting, unlimited bandwidth and free patch distribution as well as marketing. So they don't have iAP anymore, thanks for the tip, however they still pay apple a yearly fee to be part of the developer program so your part about spotify getting a free ride is not true Spotify pays Apple the same amount as every other Apple developer: $99 yearly to get access to developer tools, a storefront, webhosting, bandwith, patch management, store marketing, and much more. That's a steal for $99 yearly. Have you ever tried hosting a decently sized webshop yourself, and dealt with bandwith costs, patching, maintenance, marketing, etc? People tend to think these things are free... Take a look at Akamai and Level3 as examples, they have made huge businesses based around only bandwith and online distribution, because hey, it's not free! Core routers and switches cost a huge chunk of money, so does fiber, and so does proper redunancy, and then all of this needs to be configured and maintained, etc, etc, etc... People seem f'ing clueless about infrastructure cost these days. As an example, let's say 100 million of Spotify's about 300 million users are on iOS. And seeing as Spotify release a patch to their app every 2nd week, and each patch is around 100MB in size, so let's say 24 updates per year that needs to be distributed to 100 million endpoints. That alone is roughly 240 000 000 000 megabytes per year of patch data and bandwith, just for patch distribution alone. That is 240 petabytes. Redownloads due to new phones, restored phones, or new customers are not included. Spotify pays $99 yearly for this. And that is just bandwith costs, not hosting, store front listing, and much more that is also included in those $99. Anyone complaining about this is technically inept or retarded.

I still buy TV shows and movies on blu-ray. Far better quality than streaming, and you don't have to rely on some streaming service having it available at the time when you want to watch it.

And you would just use 1st gen Apple Pencil with the iPad, hence keeping the Lightning port. Lightning is better than USB-C? Are you serious?

  32. Condolence question

Flowers and a card from funerals I have been to are the best IMO. Or if you can show up in person, even better. Had some older people at church who used to watch my bro and I when my parents when out of town who passed a few years back. I did not provide a card or flowers, but I showed up at the funeral and offered my condolences to the family in person. And then hung around for the reception to talk to family and share memories. My fav teacher in highschool passed a while back and I posted online when the family announced it offering my condolences.

It's not a question of if but one of when. And also, this is purely to sucker people into buying a ps5 in the hopes of getting people to double dip.

The Quest 2 is basically the next Rift. You just need to purchase the extra Link USB 3.0 cable and you have a full PC VR setup. I reckon this device is probally the best VR headset now as you get the best of both worlds, mobile device (tether free) plus HMD for full PC VR (tethered).

  40. AFAIK apple music people do NOT and i repeat, do NOT use android, so only for a tiny percentage of people who have family members with androids, it is not worth for them to do a good app. itunes for PC was ###### poor too, even though lots of PC users had iPads. apple does not care for people outside its ecosystem, and this is the reason why i can never go back to them.

  42. PlayStation 5 will cost $499, Digital Edition comes in at $399

And here I thought the digital edition would be $449 (and I’m guessing it would have been if Microsoft didn’t have a $299 console lined up). Nonetheless, those prices are pretty much what I anticipated. Now this event overall… lackluster to the max. And I’m slightly irked that these consoles are launching in a few months and the launch lineup hasn’t even been confirmed yet. That said, I’m still leaning towards a Series S. Damn, Game Pass Ultimate (which I already have) is too good to pass up. For only $300 I still get to play next gen games and a metric butt ton of free, great games. That can easily hold me over for a year while I wait until there are more heavy hitters for the XSX, PS5.

YMMV, but I figured I would at least let you know that you have options.
