To be fair I feel like getting rid of TikTok is a good thing lol

  2. I'm all in favor of the unban because it should happend within the Law, not some clown with power. If there is evidence it does spy, then let the law determine it's punishment, not from man with the power of a pen. That's call dictatorship

  4. Introducing the newest PhD

Hi All, Just wanted to announce that I successfully defended my dissertation and am now a PhD in Nursing Education. Took 5 years of intense doctorate level to get it, but now I am in the world of health care research and new informatics technology. Still working in the same large level-one university hospital with all kinds of patients (including COVID-19 ones). Just wanted to share this milestone. 😊

  5. while I dont like TickTok at all, and feel like it is indeed a Chinese spy program (no proof at all, just my feelings), banning software or services without due process on an open and free market does worry me. That a president with a simple signature is able to shutdown access to an application for the US, is something I don't remember happening in the past, and it feels like the Chinese firewall type setting. Just don't feel right....

  6. I would be more willing to endorse blocking it if 1) there was ever any TANGIBLE evidence that they were harvesting data. ( I mean Google somehow has issues with this like every year but we aint done anything against them) 2) we took ANY action against our own social media companies from doing the exact same thing we accuse TikTok of.

  7. Banning the app from being used by government officials is perfectly understandable. Preventing normal people from using it is kind of an attack on democracy and freedom. Not kind ... it actually is.

  10. Personally, I would not know a LOT of stuff that was happening at the BLM protests if not for TikTok and people recording everywhere. Even a lot of videos that the news was showing on TV were sourced from TikTok. People just associate it with "kids doing dumb stuff" because that's all they want you to think it is. There is also a lot of cool, useful content, like cooking videos, social commentary, political opinion.

Over dramatic. Comparing banning 2 apps to the Berlin wall? Really? Know your history and banning a couple apps does not signal the end of a country.

  16. The one feature they SHOULD have added in the all the way back in the release 1607 or whatever the first update was, which allows you to have more than one windows 10 settings box open at a time. It's the one single thing that pisses me off about Windows 10. I'm in the Windows update window and want to go to all apps, and it uses the same window. GAH! It's just as dumb as the 7th version of Watch OS STILL not being able to sync to messages on the iPhone so when you delete an SMS message on the iPhone it deletes from the watch.

  17. That and forcing a company to sell it's stake in the country could send the wrong message to others around the world, many countries could end up thinking, if the US can do it, so can they to US companies in their own countries, this could backfire in so many ways.

All because the users of the app embarrassed Trump in Tulsa. I doubt this will stop Sarah Cooper anyway.

To be fair I feel like getting rid of TikTok is a good thing lol I find it stupid we are making a big deal about TikTok when every other social media platform does the exact same thing... but I guess that's okay because they are US companies that only SELL it to China... like REAL capitalists.

A switch that provides power over ethernet, or an injector - I believe. However, it also has a "normal" power connector, you aren't forced into PoE...

Censoring in the name of protecting people from the enemy. This whole TikTok story sounds like it was written in eastern communist Germany the DDR in the 60's. They also build a wall to protect the citizens from the evil west Germans. What the hell happened to the U.S., the land of the free? Another 4 years and this country goes strait to hell.

How is this any different than Nickelodeon/Disney channel targeting kids with toy ads? And parental consent? If your kid is registering Facebook at age 13-17, and you don't want them on it, maybe do a better job at parenting? Google maybe, but even then if I was a parent, I'd understand the type of data collected for basically any user accessing google services.

The rumored mid-range laptop and Pro X 2 are meh for me. I could care less about crappy ARM emulation. I want a Pro 8 that brings in the design changes from the Pro X. Slimmer bezels, Thunderbolt 4/USB-C and I'm sold! I will say the mid-range laptop will a good business decision because it will allow them to bring in a bigger audience at a cheaper starting point.

  33. Power over Ethernet question

Cable is always going to be better And allows for POE for sure. Be it you use injector, or get a poe switch. Unless you plan on doing more than a couple camera's the added cost of poe switch for 1 or 2 cameras is prob not cost effective. If you plan on setting up quite a few camera's or other poe devices then yeah a poe switch would help with less wiring. Can give you some control over removing power from specific camera's via just switch command to remove power from them - if you need to reboot them or something. Looking at that camera (whats in box section) doesn't seem to list that it comes with an injector? And I don't see one to purchase on the accessory list? They do seem to sell power adapters for them.. It lists in specs that it uses 802.3af for POE, so make sure if you get a switch or injector to use that is what is puts out or supports. There are currently 3 main specs for poe 802.3af, at and the newer bt standard.

  43. Open letter asks tech firms to stop targeting ads at users under 18

The letter is discussing 'targeted' ads. Say if you just looked at buying an iPhone, and ads selling you an iPhone will appear everywhere. This is what the letter is against. It's not against showing ads for generic toys or something on kids content on youtube because this is generic and not personalised. I guess I don’t see what the hubbub is about. To me there is little difference. Nickelodeon targets ads to children, because they are watching a particular show at the time. And yes. They do target Audience ads based on shows being watched. They might not be as specific as seeing an ad on Facebook because you added Barbie to a cart, but they do indeed tailor just as Facebook. Google do. There was a huge outcry in the 90s about the techniques used in those television ads for kids. In the end not much changed. Primarily because everyone agreed that it’s a parent’s responsibility to regulate their child’s viewing habits, as well as laying down the law when it comes to saying no from something they see/say on TV ads. I imagine the same will hold true here.
