  5. 'Supergirl' Canceled: Why the CW Show is Ending After Six Seasons

Here's my personal opinion on why this show sank like the Titanic, and please tell me if you agree or not. It's ok. When this show premiered, it was great. The stories were very good. The characters. Everything was about Supergirl, especially the episodes where Superman made his cameos. That was good. Great visuals. Great story. Lots of action, but then something happened: They went into LGBT land and everything went straight to hell. Mind you, this is supposed to be a "Family Show", so before those of you who are gay or belong to the LGBT community get on my case, let me make something very clear to you: I have absolutely nothing against the gay community as I have many friends who are gay. This isn't about that, is about the show and what it was supposed to represent and the audience it was supposed to be directed at. Like I said, this show began as a family show, which means little girls, little boys, teens would be watching it, as well as some adults. In the beginning it was great, but then they shifted to the lesbian/gay story lines and all of the sudden, we see two women kissing each other on a show that was supposed to be a "Family Oriented" show. Now, those parents who were letting their children see this show for what it was, are no longer letting their children see it. Why? Because even though being gay is a norm in our society now, there are still parents out there who think otherwise and now you have millions of families, who at one point supported the show, drop their support because of this. Supergirl was no longer a Family show once that line was crossed. It was a gamble and they knew it. The gamble failed and now they are paying for it. The ratings speak for themselves. I had mentioned this to them on their official YouTube channel last year. I told them they needed to ease down on the lesbian/gay storylines for the sake of the ratings and the fact that the show was supposed to be a family show, not a PG-13 soap opera. The show went from "The Adventures of Supergirl" to "The Adventures of my Gay Sister Alex". Every episode after Season 3 was just simply bad. Tyler Hoechlin made Season 2 of Supergirl worth watching. Season 3 was good, especially the end of it. The last episode of Season 3 was action-filled and the visuals were amazing, sadly every season after that was bad, for the reason mentioned above. Supergirl became just another, boring soap opera show. There were so many wonderful stories and things they could have adapted from the comics and make the show successful for another few seasons, but instead the writers chose to dive into waters they should have never dove into and damaged the show and it's original vision and direction. Good news is, we will have more "Super" action as Tyler Hoechlin is returning to be Superman full time soon with his own show, and I am quite positive Melissa will make a cameo as Supergirl on his show, just like he did on hers, from time to time, so it won't be the last we see of her character. Let's hope, for the sake of his show, that they don't make the same mistakes they made with Supergirl.

I have to go and install Office on a Mac on Thursday, that will be fun as I know very little about a Mac. After the last MAC Os update my mates older version of Office don't work any more, so he had to buy the latest version Myself, I will stick with Libre office.

  16. Well not exactly. It is more of a replacement for the 1980s Objective C crap they have been dragging around. Outside of the Appleland, it is in xcode and has some linux following, and it can almost perform as well as C# on .NET Core. It has some interesting concepts, but imho, doesn't do any of them or anything exceeding well. It does best Objective C in performance most of the time, even if its binaries are heavier. It is something everyone that programs or likes languages should play with and understand. It isn't something anyone should devote their life to, as I'm not even sure Apple will not diverge to something else, especially with the need for other concepts for handling newer threading models in ARM that will be important. - I'm no expert on Swift, just played with it a bit, and listened to a few colleagues drum on about it, either saying it has potential, or talking about how it is another bloated crap pile from Apple. The truth is probably mixed in between.

For quite some time the *nix fans would hate on Windows because of the limits in cmd.exe, Powershell started to change that, but now with the new Windows Terminal and all the WSL support, things have come a long way.

  22. I think perpetual licenses are much better value for home users. For something like Office with the exception of Outlook I use Office no where near enough at home to justify the subscription. If I didn't get Office 365 though work i'd buy a perpetual version of Office and just run it for as long as it got updates. In a business environment though its a great way of staying current without spending large sums of money every couple of years (which accounts hate!). Office, Exchange, Sharepoint, OneDrive and Teams all under a single monthly payment per user is hard to argue against.

  26. This was my thought as well. Adobe has no guarantee they will have dominance, and there are a ton of bitter users for this reason. I know two people, who have now dropped Adobe and gone for Serif affinity, yes I know it is only two, but that is only from my small group of people, Honestly, I need to look into this, possibly at the end of the year when I've the time. Adobe's subscription model is starting to annoy me.

Almost all the other flagships offer the same, or more, camera capability now. It's only selling point is vanilla Android and some great google assistant tie ins, but well, that's really not enough for me anymore. Especially at that price. Close to 800 for a sub flagship soc. No thanks, if I was getting a Pixel I'd opt for their "a" line.

  30. I think this is better, the 365 subs get the new features first as they roll out, then at some point MS takes a snapshot and does a release like this one. Why go full sub if you still have demand for buying it the old way? Anyways, I'm still on 2013, I use Outlook the most but I think it's time to upgrade to this next version when the time comes.

  33. Twitter begins U.S. voter registration campaign

That would be communism... /s But yes, natural born citizens of the US also need to register to vote, sometimes every election cycle depending on the state. It's also a common voter suppression tactic. By making it hard to vote, you ensure that only those people who can afford to go through all the steps will vote. Turnout in US elections is abysmally low.

  34. Old TV in Welsh village behind broadband outages

From The Reg article As UK telco Zen helpfully explains, SHINE and its relative REIN (Repetitive Electrical Impulse Noise) generate interference “in the frequencies used by the ADSL Broadband service.” “SHINE is where this interference is generated as a burst – when a device is powered on or off, for example,” says Zen. “As a result disconnections or line errors may result at the time a device is switched on or off.” Zen explains that an AM radio can detect SHINE-emitting kit. Openreach’s statement on the matter says its “most experienced engineers” were put on the job after 18 months of outages and failed attempts at fixes. “As a final resort we decided to bring in a crack squad of engineers from the Chief Engineers Office who were based in other parts of the UK to investigate,” said Openreach engineer, Michael Jones. “Accommodation was understandably hard to find due to the Covid-19 lockdown but we did eventually manage to find a guest house with a field near Llandrindod Wells, so the team camped there and made the 55-mile journey to early the next morning.” Jones said the team fired up the spectrum analyser and took to Aberhosan’s streets at 6:00 AM – in a downpour, no less – and as the clock struck 07:00 “picked up a large burst of electrical interference in the village.” “It turned out that at 07:00 every morning the occupant would switch on their old TV which would in-turn knock out broadband for the entire village.”

  35. I'm surprised to see so many people complain about VirtualBox performance with Windows. I've been using it for 10+ years and, aside from the occasional audio hiccup that is fixed with a reboot, I haven't had any performance problems... Keep in mind I'm not recommending people play Crysis in the VM, just browse the web which doesn't require many resources at all. It’s a slow application. I’ve not had any issues with it either but I will take a type 1 hypervisor over it any day. That said, in regards to secure browsing, any one who has Windows Sandbox available is better off in every way from performance to ease of use, to even security vs. Virtualbox. I haven't noticed it being slow at all, and tons of people in the Infosec community use it every day... Plus, I believe Sandbox is only available on Windows 10 Pro. Tough crowd though in the comments... Seems like I wasted my time writing it I guess... Virtualbox is definitely slower vs. alternatives. If you haven’t compared them, then no you won’t notice it being slower. Which is fine, as I said, I don’t have an issue with it being a slow application and for the price of free, nor do many others. In regards to Sandbox, I did say: “any one who has Windows Sandbox available” to make it clear it wasn’t available for everyone. Don’t take the criticism personally, take it as a way to improve yourself. Nobody is attacking you, so I see no reason to sulk about it.

  38. 'Supergirl' Canceled: Why the CW Show is Ending After Six Seasons

You really have issues. I said it once, and I'll say it again: THIS IS NOT about being gay or not, this is about the show and its original direction and the audience it was aimed at. Don't sit there and try to make it look as if this is about being against gay TV shows because it's not gonna work. There is a place and time for everything and Supergirl, which again, was mostly aimed at young girls and boys, was not the place for LGBT themes so get over yourself and your hate.

  41. It is exactly what happened with China and our economy, being more and more dependent on China, where we nod with China and China wrote its own wacko laws at whim and China really to overwrite its Constitution at whim. For example, Twitter was (or is) blocked in China, also Winnie the Pooh. * Jinping: Jump * Obama: How high? * Jinping: Jump * Trump: What?. Your example is flawed. Obama didn't block Twitter in China. He had nothing to do with it. Meanwhile Trump is following Jinping's example. Let me fix that for you: * Jinping: trolled by Winnie the Pooh meme on Twitter * Jinping: blocks Twitter in China * Trump: trolled by k-pop fans on TikTok * Trump: tries to block TikTok in the USA * Obama: What?

  43. Agree, OneDrive space alone is worth the cost. Only if you use it and have a need for it, otherwise it is not. As much as you many not realise, not everyone wants to store their documents on the cloud and that is one of the problem with Office, be it office 365 or the retail version, it defaults to the cloud to save. one of the reason i use Libre office and also because it is free and does what I need.

  44. I was never a fan of the move to the subscription model for Office. I want to pay a one-off price and know that the software will be available to me whenever I need it. If a newer piece of software comes out that has a fancy new feature I'll pay for that. So this is pleasing news for me and other home users.

  45. Well said. Indeed my point, as you put it, was that "a browser that automatically downloads and executes something is a different story". That story is called Trojan Horse. It's worth mentioning that none of the five mainstream browsers automatically download and execute code. They've made strides in this area. In addition, many users open links via their email clients, which makes things harder.

  46. Why's that? Depends on what your stance on social networks is overall, on one hand it helps you stay connected with family and friends, which is why I even bothered with a FB account. On the other hand they run rampant with crazy posts, disinformation, and overall silliness, it does more harm then good. I mean, for example, the whole tide pod eating challenge crap from a few years ago, that only got to be such a issue because of how it spread via social media. I think we can all agree that we can do with less of that, can't we? Before social media it was silly chain letters, urban myths, and notes passed around school. The only thing that's changed is the medium. People will do stupid things with or without social media. Tide pods or not. And lets not all pretend that fake news didn't exist prior to Facebook. Fringe areas of the internet, and prior to that, publications and various radio broadcasts mind warped plenty of people. Plenty of examples of that in the late 80s, early 90s. Yeah, I don't quite think you're taking the sheer scale difference into account here. I'm not saying crazy wasn't around, it's always been, but the crazy was never able to spread as fast or as wide as it does today via any of the big social networks out there, take your pick. Or the things you're mentioning are grossly overstated now. I don't know any of my friends kids who've had a tide pod for a snack. A single twitter user reports a defect with their phone and within hours, a news article is created citing it's the next x-gate, all while 99.9% of people never have an issue. Social media is a megaphone, sure, but no, stupidity hasn't suddenly ran rampant.
