What do you disagree with? Epic tried talking, and that didn't get them anywhere. The next step is suing. The fact that they're working with other companies should be encouraging, not discouraging. The only thing that could happen is Apple reducing their cut out of the grace of their heart. As a publicly traded company that's pushed for increased profits, I highly doubt that will happen though. There's nothing to sue for since the rules have been established all along. Apple is free to set their pricing as they please, and nobody else can tell them otherwise. Customers can and should vote with their wallet. It's the same supply-demand concept as any other business market.5 points -

While I agree to certain things regarding Apple's policies, I disagree more with the way Epic has been "fighting" this. And if Spotify is now joining Epic on it's silly campaign, I'll seriously have to consider my commitments to Spotify. I've already cancelled my Epic Store account due to personal principals. And won't hesitate to do the same with my Spotify plan.4 points -

Its been confirmed as costing £220 in the UK: https://www.eurogamer.net/arti...ndable-storage-costs-usd220 All of a sudden series S doesn't seem like such a good purchase factoring in the propriatary expansion drives Microsoft opted for. I don't think the Sony approved Gen4 NVME drives are going to be much cheaper either when it comes to expansion of the PS5's internal storage. My main concern about the new gen consoles is how long is that internal SSD going to last shifting around games that are going to be 50 to 100 gigs in size.3 points -

And let’s fight Amazon, while we’re at it, to be able to sell on their store without Amazon taking a fee or getting in the way Amazon sells goods which can be acquired any other store you like. Hence, you can get said goods with any payment processor you like, or subscriptions from anywhere the developer likes with no restrictions. So, we've got that already. You can also purchase a phone outside of the Apple ecosystem and get more or less the exact same apps. It's not hard to change platforms... You and everyone else has that choice. And as long that is a choice everyone has, there is really no monopoly. The fact that Apple controls THEIR platform is not a monopoly. The AppStore is one of their products. You think you can fight your stall or store into a walmart or a shopping mall without paying any rent? That is what Epic and Spotify wants, and it doesn't make any sense what-so-ever.2 points -

"The Coalition for App Fairness will be the voice of app and game developers in the effort to protect consumer choice and create a level playing field for all.” Tim Sweeney says as he owns and operates a store that seeks out exclusivity deals for the entire purpose of denying consumers choice. Epic Games, Spotify, and more form a coalition to fight Apple's App Store policies
dustojnikhummer and one other reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
This fight has very little do to with the 30% fees, or at least the upfront fees. Apple digging into subscription and sales from Apps is where things become an issue. This fight is also over the control and limitations/restrictions that are arbitrary, anti-competitive, and inconsistently applied. Again, use the Theater example, just because Apple controls hardware to software to store, doesn't mean they should and again it is the citizens that own that space they occupy, not Apple. This is why regulations in every industry prevent complete monopolistic control from production to sales, like the movie studio, theater, movie sign maker example I have used before. PS Follow/Notice Microsoft's words on this subject with Apple and xCloud. They have ZERO problems with giving Apple 30% of the subscription for iPhone users. The 30% is not their point of contention, it is the flat out ability to get a deal to have stream gaming, and Apple's total and arbitrary control - all to boost Apple's own game service.2 points -

PRETTY TILES AT LAST. One of the best additions in Windows the past years (not sarcasm) I am so glad they have finally removed all the worst UI stuff that plagued Windows since the introduction of the universally hated Metro 1.0. Now they should start refining the UI experience and use the WinUI framework for everything from stock apps, explorer, run, edge etc. Also unify everything because apps like Groove are starting to have yet another new context menu style (fluent, transparant and rounded corners)2 points -

As per the article, that'll work for Xbox One/One X games but not for Series S/X games. I even think if you are able to get a PCIe 4.0 NVMe external drive to plug via usb it wouldn't work for Series X games, seems Microsoft went the proprietary route exactly to avoid cheaper ways to get around expanding the storage. You can store it on external SSD and transfer to internal when you want to play it. George P's method is decent from a cost-saving perspective. Not convenient, but it is there Yep. Like I said, decent from a cost-saving perspective. With a good external SSD, at USB speeds, you're probably looking at anything from 1-5 mins to move a 100GB game from external to the internal drive, suppose it depends on the type of USB3.x it is and the read speeds it can do. Way better than having to re-download them. Which means the inability to play off of it is a software lock, designed to force people to buy their first party expensive one.2 points -

Crucial P1 is 105 dollars on Amazon for the 1TB variant. It's also a PCIe Gen3 SSD instead of Gen4. Except the P1 is a 3.0 4X and the Xbox expansion one is 4.0 2x, so that cancels out. From Crucial's P1 website: "With sequential read/write speeds up to 2,000/1,700 MB/s". Meanwhile the Xbox SSD offers 2.4GB/s speeds (they don't specify reads and writes, but still) for raw data, 4.8 GB/s for compressed data. I wouldn't say that cancels out completely.1 point -

The app is developed by NHS Test and Trace which is being run by Dido Harding who has received criticism. Serco and a few other private firms are involved in the whole test and trace programme as they're the ones who hired contact tracers. I remember with the first app reading the name VMWare somewhere so I think they may have had a hand in building the original app but not sure which firms may have been involved this time around. With that all said, this app is anonymous, it relies on the google-apple API, and at the end of the day it benefits the end user who will know if they've been near anyone with covid.1 point -

Funny... in the US, college students would try to convince you this is racist... after they make bonehead assumptions that being a minority means you're either poor or too dumb to know how to get an ID. The reality is that anyone who's had to live off some sort of welfare should know they likely already have a form of identification to receive those benefits. 🤷♂️ There is so much wrong with everything you wrote, I wouldn't even know where to begin. "Here, let me define a liberal college student, and then tell you why they are wrong based on my insane definition." That is just the first couple of words. Why even equate citizenship to racism? How do you get there? This sounds like the thinking of a Fox news host, and one of the really dumb ones. Do you think there is no racism or systematic racism? Do you want me to share a story about my neighbors growing up, that trained dogs to attack black people, and how a little girl was killed one day? This is real life kiddo, this is not some made up FOX reality. I do hope you never say a thing here, but someday go ask why what you said sounds a bit crazy. I see your comments here, you are too bright to have such a massive disconnect in critical thinking.1 point -

I don't know if it's my age (I started playing NES). But I just finishing reading a rant that has a very similar political taste of being a victim. This isn't the end of the world! Grow up! You will get the console eventually and what Sony did is far from "deceptive". Maybe you need to mature more (i.e. get the experience of life) and stop being picky by some details that aren't that important, but it seems they are important FOR YOU. Saying "trust" in regardess to a tech company? Damn. I would NEVER use a big word for an electronic device. I would use TRUST for the company managing my savings account and/or retirement plans. That will actually have an impact in my future ""but the firm's - unintentionally or intentionally - deceptive marketing tactics have diminished my trust, which means that I'll have to be very careful with setting expectations for next-gen, because I can't take anything Sony says at face value anymore."""1 point -
