What do you disagree with? Epic tried talking, and that didn't get them anywhere. The next step is suing. The fact that they're working with other companies should be encouraging, not discouraging. The only thing that could happen is Apple reducing their cut out of the grace of their heart. As a publicly traded company that's pushed for increased profits, I highly doubt that will happen though. There's nothing to sue for since the rules have been established all along. Apple is free to set their pricing as they please, and nobody else can tell them otherwise. Customers can and should vote with their wallet. It's the same supply-demand concept as any other business market.5 points -

Its been confirmed as costing £220 in the UK: https://www.eurogamer.net/arti...ndable-storage-costs-usd220 All of a sudden series S doesn't seem like such a good purchase factoring in the propriatary expansion drives Microsoft opted for. I don't think the Sony approved Gen4 NVME drives are going to be much cheaper either when it comes to expansion of the PS5's internal storage. My main concern about the new gen consoles is how long is that internal SSD going to last shifting around games that are going to be 50 to 100 gigs in size.3 points -

And let’s fight Amazon, while we’re at it, to be able to sell on their store without Amazon taking a fee or getting in the way Amazon sells goods which can be acquired any other store you like. Hence, you can get said goods with any payment processor you like, or subscriptions from anywhere the developer likes with no restrictions. So, we've got that already. You can also purchase a phone outside of the Apple ecosystem and get more or less the exact same apps. It's not hard to change platforms... You and everyone else has that choice. And as long that is a choice everyone has, there is really no monopoly. The fact that Apple controls THEIR platform is not a monopoly. The AppStore is one of their products. You think you can fight your stall or store into a walmart or a shopping mall without paying any rent? That is what Epic and Spotify wants, and it doesn't make any sense what-so-ever.2 points -

dustojnikhummer and one other reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
This fight has very little do to with the 30% fees, or at least the upfront fees. Apple digging into subscription and sales from Apps is where things become an issue. This fight is also over the control and limitations/restrictions that are arbitrary, anti-competitive, and inconsistently applied. Again, use the Theater example, just because Apple controls hardware to software to store, doesn't mean they should and again it is the citizens that own that space they occupy, not Apple. This is why regulations in every industry prevent complete monopolistic control from production to sales, like the movie studio, theater, movie sign maker example I have used before. PS Follow/Notice Microsoft's words on this subject with Apple and xCloud. They have ZERO problems with giving Apple 30% of the subscription for iPhone users. The 30% is not their point of contention, it is the flat out ability to get a deal to have stream gaming, and Apple's total and arbitrary control - all to boost Apple's own game service.2 points -

One of the best additions in Windows the past years (not sarcasm) I am so glad they have finally removed all the worst UI stuff that plagued Windows since the introduction of the universally hated Metro 1.0. Now they should start refining the UI experience and use the WinUI framework for everything from stock apps, explorer, run, edge etc. Also unify everything because apps like Groove are starting to have yet another new context menu style (fluent, transparant and rounded corners)2 points -

As per the article, that'll work for Xbox One/One X games but not for Series S/X games. I even think if you are able to get a PCIe 4.0 NVMe external drive to plug via usb it wouldn't work for Series X games, seems Microsoft went the proprietary route exactly to avoid cheaper ways to get around expanding the storage. You can store it on external SSD and transfer to internal when you want to play it. George P's method is decent from a cost-saving perspective. Not convenient, but it is there Yep. Like I said, decent from a cost-saving perspective. With a good external SSD, at USB speeds, you're probably looking at anything from 1-5 mins to move a 100GB game from external to the internal drive, suppose it depends on the type of USB3.x it is and the read speeds it can do. Way better than having to re-download them. Which means the inability to play off of it is a software lock, designed to force people to buy their first party expensive one.2 points -

A Kentucky EMT was shot and killed during a police raid of her home. The family is suing for wrongful death
Emn1ty reacted to DocM for a topic
This falls under Charlie Foxtrot From reports here the investigators sought and obtained a no-knock warrant, then passed it off to a 3 man team who did the raid. The cops announced but weren't heard, so the male resident fired thinking it was a home invasion - a serious problem in many jurisdictions and grounds for self-defense. One cop was hit in the leg on entry, causing them to return fire. Again, generally justifiable but causing the death of EMT Taylor. The changes against one officer are 3 cases of reckless endangerment - his shots went into a neighboring apartment with 3 residents. The problem is the no-knock warrant. These should only be used in hostage rescue or other such situations. Straight up entry warrants should be handled otherwise; one option being evacuating the surrounding residents, surrounding the unit, and notifying occupants to surrender. Anything but charging in at a late hour with no notification. Granny will grab her shotgun.1 point -
Twitter begins U.S. voter registration campaign
Jumping Jacinta reacted to derpityderp for a topic
Please explain how encouraging people to register to vote is election interference.. I'll wait Republican playbook is to suppress voting. They know in pure numbers the Democrats win the popular vote. Therefore, for the far right extremists such as @SeriouslyMaD any attempt to encourage voting negates their chance of stealing another election and must be vigorously opposed and there is no limit to the depths they won't stoop to in an effort to suppress voting. That is untrue....the part of the Republican playbook. They want everyone to vote that can and will turn out. You would be surprised if everyone picked a side and voted how or which way it would flip. Nobody is stealing an election either, you either get off your ass and go vote or you don't. With how you speak you are clearly left driven and that is fine but don't push false narratives to support your theories when they are simply not true. There is a reason a high voter turnout almost always favors Democrats. They tend to win elections with a higher overall turnout.1 point -

That would be communism... /s But yes, natural born citizens of the US also need to register to vote, sometimes every election cycle depending on the state. It's also a common voter suppression tactic. By making it hard to vote, you ensure that only those people who can afford to go through all the steps will vote. Turnout in US elections is abysmally low. This is a stretch about voter suppression and not being able to afford it. It doesn't cost anything to vote in the US. You register once unless you move between elections and you can go vote. You can also register at the polling place. Some states are slightly different, but it isn't hard. There are people trying to fix something that isn't broke and has worked for many years. Really? So if you are a family of two, and your monthly income is Social Security and combined, the TOTAL household income is $714 a month. How hard do you think it would be for them to purchase an ID or Drivers License that costs around $50 per person? Should we do the math here? This is a direct example of my friends grandparents in 2016, in a state that required a driver's license or government photo ID. (If my friend or even I had known at the time, we would have given them the money.) They were unable to vote in 2016. So was that 'suppression' or just the way it should be for POOR PEOPLE? We too often live in so many bubbles, and the ###### that happens to people the things we don't realize or even think exist can be mind numbing to learn about.1 point -

It's also a common voter suppression tactic. By making it hard to vote, you ensure that only those people who can afford to go through all the steps will vote. Turnout in US elections is abysmally low. It's very easy to vote in the USA, so nobody has an excuse that it's too hard. You can vote by mail several months in advance, many states allow same day registration at the polls, and you don't need an ID to cast a vote. You're right that voting turnout is generally really low, so a lot of places are practically begging for people to care enough to vote. Personally I think many people are so sick of how hostile and violent US politics has become, they they completely zone it out. I know you are trying to be helpful, but you are providing incorrect information. One example: THERE ARE PLACES THAT PHOTO ID (of a specific kind) is required to vote. Also about it being hard. I once fought to get registered in the year 2000 for over six months with nearly 40 pages of submissions and applications that resulted in me getting an attorney and suing the county clerks office. I'm glad it has always been easy for you, but this is just not the case for everyone. Oh, another example, my friend submitted their registration 4 times, with it being returned saying their birth town was missing from the application. Which I saw, it was literally printed on the registration. The 5th time, I told them to change their party affiliation to Republican from Democratic, and it was accepted. There were 6 people on our block that had to do the same thing in the year 2004 - "Birth Town is missing" "Birth Date is missing" when it was clearly on the form - they changed from Democratic to Republican and their registration was then accepted, and they were able to later change affiliation. This is 7 people in a community of about 20 people. (This stuff isn't even illegal, as it is seen as a plausible mistake/error.) Go look at some of the lingering Jim Crow laws, many things that have returned since the Supreme Court ruling they no longer had to oversee state discrimination laws.1 point -
Network traffic effecting my internet speed?
mist3rg1ass reacted to +BudMan for a topic
Yeah but that is a bit more difficult than you think if you multihome a box. Unless you create another connection between the A and B on different network. You can for sure limit an interface to only local without a gateway. But your one with your gateway can still be used for local traffic, so setting up the metrics right, can get a bit problematic... the way to be SURE would be to use a different interface connected to the other machine on some different network without gateways. Or if you can create vlans, multihome the device so that for internet use interface A that is in a different network than your local network. So your sure PC would never use "internet" interface for local traffic. A hacky way to do it is just to run multiple IP ranges on the same L2.. Comes down to what features your router supports, etc.1 point -
