  1. An Apple TV app is coming to Xbox consoles

Microsoft should ask Apple to submit every show and every movie into a separate app in order to be able to properly represent the age rating of every show.

  2. It's official: x64 emulation is coming to Windows on ARM

They're also making a native ARM64 version of Teams to, so there's that. These are nice and they're really just stop gaps until you get more native ARM64 versions of apps. If you don't get one, then you hope each new version of the SoC can boost performance to where even the emulated apps run good so that people don't notice much, if any, difference. Makes me wonder if the future SQ2 could aid with speeding up emulation with some custom hardware bits?

about time. I bet Apple had MS shaking in their boots after the seemingly better looking x86/x64 emulation on their ARM reveal.

  7. An Apple TV app is coming to Xbox consoles

But video streaming apps on iOS don't force developers to submit each show individually. It's kind of silly how they have one policy for streaming music/tv/movies and another one for games. I mean they're in both markets but I'm guessing they have/make more off of Arcade growing than Apple TV. So they're giving game streaming the middle finger, basically.

  10. It's official: x64 emulation is coming to Windows on ARM

what they really need is native ARM64 version of Visual Studio & VS code, with all first party apps ported to ARM64 asap. Apple pledged native ARM64 variants of all their first party apps at (arm macOS) launch, so that's an impressive progress and instills confidence among everyone on how much they're ready to invest into it. MS has just ported Windows to ARM64, but the only first party apps are the UWP ones or the electron based ones. A native Visual Studio would've helped encourage a lot of developers on board. Additionally Window's selling point was always a lot of hardware options and an open platform. WinARM has always stuck to high end machines, which prevents adoption by fans/devs who are scared to invest in this(esp since their disasters with WinRT and WinPhone). A raspberry pi 4 image, or an affordable ARM mini-PC(like Asus chrome box) could help adoption.

With all these leaks, these events are just a waste of money. We get to see the phone with many more details from the leaks than we get to see them from the event. In just a couple of hours, we will see MKBHD with a new video: "I've been using this phone for the past week or so"

Good luck with full VS though, if they've gone this long not making an x64 version it's doubtful they'll do an ARM version. Ah i didn't realize that VSC was ARM app. But they've been focussing more development on VSC than VS, adding a lot of features to bring it closer to an IDE than a text editor like Sublime or Atom. Seems like they're too overwhelmed by VS project, so they 're doing a fresh 'modem' start with VSC, and slowly migrating more features over.

  22. "Other enhancements include improvements to video rendering on the desktop that reduce CPU and GPU load, up to 40% improvement in battery consumption in the background on iOS" How crap must the code have been prior to this update to be able to get a 40% reduction in power consumption, that's not a small number.

  24. I would be surprised if it was only HDD/SDD Smart monitoring, as Windows identifies and monitors several metrics for identifying HDD/SDD errors and corruption. This is also a good change, as it was insane that Windows could notice problems, and try to fix and work around them in impressive ways - so much that users and even admins often don't notice anything, even on huge hardware or Windows software arrays, let alone day to day stuff. And yet, Windows wouldn't say anything to end users beyond entries in the Event Viewer, even as a drive was slipping into death.

  25. An Apple TV app is coming to Xbox consoles

Well, this might be a good thing for consumers. Instead of spending $150-200 on a ###### media box, consumers could consider spending $299 for a new Xbox Series S capable of better upscaling and audio along with next generation gaming, and 512GB of storage. Or even grab an Xbox One S for $199 as available. However, it would be funny to see Microsoft do something crazy to Apple with this, but knowing Microsoft, they will do the right thing for consumers and not bitchslap Apple like they deserve. Oh, I had heard that this was a tangential deal between Apple and Microsoft, and there was going to be an xCloud App for Apple TV. Which apparently won't be happening anytime soon, unless Apple makes a 'special' deal for Microsoft. Ha

Why? Only interactive content is required to do that on iOS. Again with this distinction. There are movies and videos on services that are interactive, you know, like a freaking game.

  34. YouTube Music is testing filters for Home feed suggestions

It seems the web app is end of life already. No sorting, no filters, no artist/album view, no chromecast support, no pinning, no drag and drop in playlists. I hate that these days every service is designed around picking up your phone all the time. Don't all those people listen to music when working or gaming on their actual computer. All these services (apart from Spotify) have lousy webapps and desktop clients (hello iTunes).

  37. Conversely, I don’t see a reason to. I agree with this a lot. Windows may not be great, but its kernel is actually pretty nice and has a lot of features Linux didn't add until years later, or in some cases still hasn't added.

  39. The best SwiftKey for Android features you must know about

To each their own. I've uses swiftkey long before MS bought it. I like it, and it works for me. I used it before MS grabbed it years ago on my Nexus 4, but could not get on with it. When I got my P10 lite, it was default, so I thought i would try again and i used it for a couple of weeks, but I just could not get on with it, I found it lagged and the layout is strange for me, I do not know why, just something about it. but as you said each to their own, it would be a strange world if we all liked the same thing. To be honest, I really do not use many features on keyboards, I do like the swipe function and that is all I use. I admit the new feature on swiftkey to allow easier positioning of the cursor sounds good. i find it difficult to put the cursor where I want it, ending up deleting the whole line of text just to go back. But other features I would not use, but I am sure some people would find them useful. i expect Gboard will come with some way of navigating around the text at some point, unless they already have and I have not seen it. Cursor control, if I'm understanding the Swiftkey feature correctly, is there for me on Gboard by default on the English (US) keyboard. Just swipe across the spacebar key (no long-press, just swipe). Let me know if it work for you and if it's what you expect Ah, I never knew that, learn something every day, thanks for that and yes it works in U.K English or what ever it is Cheers.

How? Read the docs that tell you how. All this covered in the openstreetmap docs but you have to actually do some work to make it happen so instead of asking us how to write code for you why don't you just experiment on your own to get the results you want?

  44. It would be an emulation layer or via rails online from azure. Whether businesses or people are against it would be immaterial, just force them to Windows Virtualized Desktop. 1. It's not quite as simple as slapping in an emulation layer though, just look as WiNE to see that 99% of Windows software STILL doesn't run or fails to run correctly on it and would require Microsoft to spend a significant amount of money developing their own emulation layer to ensure 100% compatibility. 2. If I have the hardware in front of me to run Windows then why would I bother to run it virtualised? Virtualisation has an overhead meaning that resource intensive tasks such as gaming would be impossible, not only that but what do you do if you're offline and can't access the Azure server to run your Windows applications?

  46. I'm sorry, what? The Windows kernel is one of the most advanced pieces of software ever written, based on much more modern ideas than Linux. Heck, for this to work Microsoft would have to write an entirely Windows-compatible layer over Linux and at that point, why not write an entire OS yourself again? Ho wait, that's what they are doing right now... with Windows.
