Microsoft unveils the Surface Laptop Go, a smaller Laptop starting at $549
greensabath and 5 others reacted to George P for a topic
The real base model, if you will, is the 8GB/128GB SSD model at $699 if you ask me. The $549 model has 4GB RAM, which is workable depending on what you do with it, but the storage is the slower 64GB eMMC, a pain in todays world. And it also doesn't have the finger print reader or Windows Hello support that the higher ones do. I figure if you're looking at this as a new laptop, you'd be better off spending the extra $150 and getting the higher SKU.6 points -

The title you mean right? Because the second sentence of the article as well as the last paragraph mention its optionality: "... Microsoft has released its latest optional cumulative update for Windows 10 version 2004. ..." "As usual, this is an optional update, meaning that you have to explicitly opt into installing it. If you don't, these fixes will be rolled into this month's Patch Tuesday update, which is mandatory." It’s literally a preview, optional or not.2 points -

You're paying a premium for the excellent software support, not for the hardware. You know when you buy a Microsoft device you will get priority for getting new software updates and features. You will not have wait for months like what happened with the May 2020 update on non Microsoft devices. the sp7 was one of the last devices to receive that update.2 points -

Not sure what LiLmEgZ considers slow. I kicked off my update and I have no idea how long the background download and install took (its in the background, who cares if it takes 10 seconds or 10 minutes). The reboot (you know, the part that actually counts) was about 40 seconds longer than normal so from a user perspective, the update was 40 seconds. Have we gotten to the point where some people think 40 seconds to update is slow?2 points -

This is a good sign, instead of rushing a POS that doesn't offering anything new or showcase UI innovations it was supposed to do. This also makes sense with the 'basic' UI features they built into the Surface Duo, and the massive WinUI and framework changes in the last six months for Windows along with several major Windows X redesigned and changes. (This newish OS and UI has been being worked on and restarted several times going back to 2014. WP/WinRT/WM/UWP/Adaptive/CoreAdaptiveUI/CoreMinimalUI/X) - couldn't remember a couple of the internal names off the top of my head. This is where Microsoft has done the stupidest ###### in the history of Microsoft. I'm not sure Panay will do any better now that he has control, but could it be much worse? Maybe, he is not technical, and just a marketing guy. FFS1 point -
Microsoft unveils the Surface Laptop Go, a smaller Laptop starting at $549
warrenrumak reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
4GB is actually still fine if you keep your browser tab usage down. It's not like Office, Photos, Movies, Weather, etc. suddenly started requiring 1GB of memory each. Windows itself takes some steps to reduce memory usage in a 4GB environment. Agreed about the 64GB eMMC though. Kinda wild that Microsoft can find a way to sell a 512GB NVMe SSD in the XBox Series S for $300, but can't in a $500 laptop. They could, but they don't want to ###### off OEMs and competitors. Ballmer made this mistake once before, and thus the OEM interest in WP died overnight.1 point -

Waterfox was bought by System1, a U.S. pay-per-click ad company. https://www.reddit.com/r/firef...rfox_appears_to_be_sold_to/ ... Am I missing something here? Is that the reason why Waterfox doesn't have release articles like other software? I'm asking because it's quite an arbitrary reason if it is, I'm sure there are companies behind other apps that also have similar business models (thinking about Chrome with Google behind it, or Opera which some people distrust because of its company as well). At the base configuration, you're almost better off getting the Go 2, though keyboard would be a separate purchase. I would only consider getting the i5/128. The i5/256 is too expensive. BUT it still has the same issue as the Surface Laptop. Why can't they just add more ports? The space on the chassis is there.1 point -

The Pro X now has 4 configs, the lower 2 are SQ1 and the higher 2 are SQ2 based. Makes sense, at some point as they work through the cheaper SQ1 versions those could get replaced with SQ2s. But I figure by then we could be talking about a true Pro X2 version coming.1 point -

An Apple TV app is coming to Xbox consoles
PeterTHX reacted to CakeHappens for a topic
But video streaming apps on iOS don't force developers to submit each show individually. And that is the point. I don't quite understand. So Apple lets other developers publish video streaming services as they please, and Microsoft has usually done the same. If Microsoft wanted to start a video streaming service and put it on iOS, they could do that without a problem. Why should they stop Apple from making their service available in the same way? But Microsoft at least gets 30% of the TV+ subscription fee, right?1 point -
