  1. You know what should happen, and maybe this is extreme, how about people stop taking so many selfies? I don't get it, I might take one every few months if I'm traveling somewhere new to mark the event, but some people, man.

  5. If anything I'd say this is too little. The whole Instagram/Snapchat/selfie culture (yeah I know that's a terrible way of describing it but you know what I mean) has had a pretty demonstrably negative effect on people, especially young girls. I'm not sure what the solution is but I can't imagine why you'd get worked up over a setting like this being turned off by default and call others "snowflakes" over it. The thing is, it’s not a mental health thing. It’s no different than banning beauty magazines back in the day for the same reason. Why didn’t that happen? Was mental health not a thing back then?😉 Anyway, it’s an observation. I’m not worked up over anything. Not sure where you got that from. Is posting a sign of getting worked up? Because you know, you might be worked up over my comment. Either way, I'll still maintain that calling people snowflakes over this is a bit weird. If anything, I feel this move should be commended and "snowflakes" should perhaps be applied to people who can't deal with not looking perfect in a picture, and therefore feel the need to use filters like this. Should I have instead said, our "oversensitive population"? Because thats what it boils down to. As a society, we are becoming so sensitive that anything that might be construed as offensive or not PC by anyone must be shunned or condemned and I find it hilarious and sad at the same time. I guess I come from an older, tougher, generation and don't understand.

It also is more subtle; with a beauty magazine it's pretty obvious, but when people (especially children) are inundated with images that are supposedly "real" and "no filter", that starts to set an unrealistic mental standard. We may also be interpreting "mental health" differently. I'm not taking it that they're talking about an illness per se, but rather that it's just not healthy to have the mentality that your skin must have no blemishes, must not be too light or too dark, must be perfectly smooth, and all that. That's just not realistic. You don't think the opposite effect will happen here? Those savvy enough to turn it back on will do so, and those who don't will feel bad about themselves I guess. Those who post process will continue to do so. I think its much ado over nothing.

  13. We have multiple Surfaces in our house; the Go 2 with 4GB/64GB config is one of them. And honestly, it's fine. It's not a powerhouse, and it's obviously slower than our other machines, Surfaces and non-Surfaces, but it's fine for the use case. As a primary device, I would go for the 8GB/128GB machine, but as a secondary device or educational device, or even a basic consumption device (stream everything), then it's absolutely fine. I'd imagine the Laptop Go is the same.

  17. US 2020 Election Polling - Make sure you vote no matter who!

Hi all! With the US elections starting with mail-in ballot being actively sent in, I wanted to see haw voting was going so far. This is not a debate on who you voted for and should not be use to question others vote or position (there are other threads for that). This poll is to help us see how our community as a whole looks at our future. While you can express. Who and why you support someone, please do not attack or question others for their decisions. I have hidden names, so unless you say otherwise, we will not know what your position is. If you live in the US and of legal voting age, please make sure your vote is counted. No matter if you are in the minority or majority, if you do not vote you will not be heard. This can lead to regret and feeling disenfranchised in the process. Protect our right to ensure everyone gets a vote and feels safe doing so!

Thanks for playing. It's not an observation, it's an opinion with an overly dramatic stance. Suggests you're pretty annoyed by something. If anyone is annoyed, its the person dwelling and continually posting upon what they claim to know what I feel, vs. listening to me tell my intention. All I can say is....did I trigger you? LOL. You call someone out for dwelling and yet, here you still are - clearly triggered You are not though? I guess we must both be triggered....LMAO. Quit triggering!

  21. Unfortunately, there is little incentive for retailers to do this, at the end of the day a sale is a sale. Ultimately people just need to stop buying them from these botters, the problem would go away very quickly if these people were lumbered with $1000's of crap they can't sell. But getting people to stop being stupid and waiting for these things to come back into stock is sadly unlikely to ever happen. Nvidia was going through orders that were suspected of being a bot purchase to cancel them. They said they canceled thousands of orders which kind of contradicts what you said. They have every incentive to make sure legit customers get product because happy customers are repeat customers.
    1 point
  22. They need to have some kind of a pre order system in place with variance in how people are actually awarded their purchase. First come first served basically means bots get an upper hand and legit customers get the shaft. Which is what happened with the 3080s and 3090s.

  23. I mean, you're right that they're a problem too... They just don't have the stones to do anything about it, so as not to lose money... Hell, even Google isn't really going very far.. It's turned off by default, big whoop. Most people with android phones are savvy enough (or become so fairly quickly) to turn it back on if they want to... I think the real problem is that it exists at all. If people stopped trying to be fake all the time, maybe this world would be a little better... You think?

  27. Windows 10 version 20H2 is here - here's what you need to know

There are dedicated driver checkers, that check on hardware ID. I was able to find drivers for certain hardware parts that were -really- hard to find otherwise. This also let me update Win10 on this particular PC, as the older driver(s) prohibited this. Maybe that's an option for you to check if you run the latest drivers? cheers! LOL well you can't update drivers that are already up to date to begin with and no new driver packs to be found in sight You would be surprised how many drivers updates there are for your hardware outside the 'regular' OEM channels. Hardware manufacturers keep updating their software for the parts they make, your OEM just isn't bothered to keep up. A dedicated driver finder -will- find those for you. But it's up to you to put some work into it

  31. I hope they'll do it with whatsapp soon, so I can finally uninstall that half client of whatsapp that is fine if that is what you want, but I heard they was going to make it that you could recieve messages from people on the different platforms even if you were only using one. So I could receive message say on Facebook messenger from someone on Whatsapp, even if i do not use Whatsapp. i would not want that. i do not use whatsapp, and I have no interest in using it, the one reason is because it needs a phone number. So yes the linking is ok if you already use the platforms you are linking. I have never used Whatsapp, so I don't have much idea what the app is like, I did see it on YouTube once and a mate showed me it as he wants me to use it. Oh I'm glad that you don't need whatsapp, it's the worst IM client ever... btw yes what I'm talking about the possibility (not mandatory) to enable a cross platform chat with whatsapp clients from my messenger That bad er? i get people who says to install it and use it, but I have enough ways for people to contact me. My manager asks me if i have it, not that it will matter soon as they want us all to use Teams, i expect it will be limited for us compared to what the manager does on it, but since i will not install Yammer on my phone, there is no way I am using teams. If work wants to tell me something then they can either wait until I am there, stick a notice on the wall or phone my home phone as that is the only way they can contact me. Saying that a few colleagues have me on facebook. if it is not mandatory I have no problem with it.

  32. I think the real problem is that our games library are getting big and it's getting confusing in keeping track of all the games we have over many different store fronts, so much so that I actually once bought a game that I already own on another store front lol. Having all the games in one place would be a dream come true for a lot of PC gamers, especially if it's done right with proper integration with access to all the games on the other store fronts and being able to buy from them all. I've been playing around with Galaxy two for awhile and it works really well, it automatically adds all your games from all the other store fronts, it's updates the list automatically and even thought for now you still need to have other store installed and running when playing a given game, Galaxy 2 does it quite effortlessly, when you run a game on say Steam, it opens the store minimized at the bottom right of the screen, runs the game and exit Steam once you've finished playing the game. It's the next best thing for having all games in one place without the other store fronts getting too much in the way, still proper integration would be better but this is much better than what we already have with having so many different store fronts.

The title you mean right? Because the second sentence of the article as well as the last paragraph mention its optionality: "... Microsoft has released its latest optional cumulative update for Windows 10 version 2004. ..." "As usual, this is an optional update, meaning that you have to explicitly opt into installing it. If you don't, these fixes will be rolled into this month's Patch Tuesday update, which is mandatory." It’s literally a preview, optional or not.

  37. Consumers this product is targeting wouldn't notice the eMMC speed difference, outside of benchmarks, even professionals usually can't tell the difference. It comes down to operations per second being enough to keep the data flowing for Windows to be snappy. 1-3 Seconds opening Photoshop isn't going to be noticeable, where low operations per second, like a traditional HDD would be painfully noticeable.

At this point using Intel in a laptop that doesn't need Thunderbolt or more PCIe lanes than AMD offers, means you're leaving potential CPU/GPU performance on the table. But video streaming apps on iOS don't force developers to submit each show individually. And that is the point. I don't quite understand. So Apple lets other developers publish video streaming services as they please, and Microsoft has usually done the same. If Microsoft wanted to start a video streaming service and put it on iOS, they could do that without a problem. Why should they stop Apple from making their service available in the same way? But Microsoft at least gets 30% of the TV+ subscription fee, right?

  46. It's still a pretty vague description... it should list the frame rate and the resolution for that frame rate (showing 4K Ultra badge doesn't necessarily mean it's doing 4K at 60+FPS)... you can get 60FPS in lots of games if you drop the resolution, drop the level of detail and effects and drop things like anti aliasing, etc. So even if they say it can do 60+FPS, you still don't know at what cost.

  47. Maybe someday, but the Linux kernel would need a huge revamp just to wedge in the features that NT does effortlessly. In these extra features, security layer, and work that NT does, it also does them while remaining competitive with Linux with a light distro. Try loading just the features of NTFS into a Linux distribution, and you will find it needs more resources and performs considerably slower than Windows NT. Even the best case situation where it is a file server or simple RAID. Now do the same for other features, including more advanced and dynamic hardware support. Linux gets slower and more bloated, while being able to do fewer things than Windows. The *nix model and the way the Linux kernel are design just do not adapt or function well with dynamic/new hardware/software technologies, requiring a huge roll of duct tape just to get some things working, with the hope that in 5 years, the features will actually be added to the kernel, which often doesn't happen. There is a lot that the OSS community just will not get their head around or LEARN from Microsoft, they spend more time calling MS and Windows NT trash, instead of looking at what it does well, and trying to meet or design to an OS model that is more robust and adaptive. Imagine a OS based on the best theoretical concepts, this is what NT was in 1992, and Linux barely touches the more advanced OS concepts of the late 80s, let alone newer or more advanced technologies from the 90s, 00s, 10s, or 20s. NT also didn't stop there, as Vista and and again with Windows 10 introduced a ton of new 'theoretical' OS concepts to the NT model with the new driver models and GPU technologies, etc. Look at this blog/article referenced here, this person is not stupid and knows Linux and OSes, and yet doesn't have a ######ing clue about NT or why what they are saying is dumb if not insane considering how Linux works today in contrast to what Windows NT does today. Now with that said, sure Microsoft could VM and ship Windows on top of Linux, but they would have to ditch 20 years of drivers, as well as low level compatibility and GPU technologies that simply DO NOT WORK on LINUX and NEVER WILL without rewriting the kernel. Then there is getting the VM stable with more advanced hardware access, something Linux doesn't do well for virtualization. This also means DirectX 12 no longer works, and games no longer have the speed advantages that NT gives Vulkan and DirectX, and on and on... This is another thing that is often LOST in the Linux community, they only see computing and OS technologies as 'what runs on the CPU' - nothing else, as all other hardware is not the OSes responsibility with Linux. The Linux nerds/developers don't understand why people even need a good GPU, and often look at it as a silly feature. (unless they are a gamer or run blender, and the blender bit is only the last year or so) The only 'requirement' they talk about is it being an AMD or Intel GPU, as they hate NVidia for not giving over the source code to their drivers. (Which because of how Linux works, NVidia is right in not doing so. Their drivers essentially have to run as separate OS on the GPU, while wrapping around Linux, just to get in the realm of the performance of Windows. These are not just drivers or just a wrapper like AMD uses, they are essentially a co-OS that runs with Linux, taking over the video/GPU roles that Linux is too stupid to do anything with.)
