If anything I'd say this is too little. The whole Instagram/Snapchat/selfie culture (yeah I know that's a terrible way of describing it but you know what I mean) has had a pretty demonstrably negative effect on people, especially young girls. I'm not sure what the solution is but I can't imagine why you'd get worked up over a setting like this being turned off by default and call others "snowflakes" over it. The thing is, it’s not a mental health thing. It’s no different than banning beauty magazines back in the day for the same reason. Why didn’t that happen? Was mental health not a thing back then?😉 Anyway, it’s an observation. I’m not worked up over anything. Not sure where you got that from. Is posting a sign of getting worked up? Because you know, you might be worked up over my comment. Either way, I'll still maintain that calling people snowflakes over this is a bit weird. If anything, I feel this move should be commended and "snowflakes" should perhaps be applied to people who can't deal with not looking perfect in a picture, and therefore feel the need to use filters like this. Should I have instead said, our "oversensitive population"? Because thats what it boils down to. As a society, we are becoming so sensitive that anything that might be construed as offensive or not PC by anyone must be shunned or condemned and I find it hilarious and sad at the same time. I guess I come from an older, tougher, generation and don't understand.3 points -

Because you know, you might be worked up over my comment. I'd argue that the culture is much different today than back then with magazines because it's much more readily available. It also is more subtle; with a beauty magazine it's pretty obvious, but when people (especially children) are inundated with images that are supposedly "real" and "no filter", that starts to set an unrealistic mental standard. We may also be interpreting "mental health" differently. I'm not taking it that they're talking about an illness per se, but rather that it's just not healthy to have the mentality that your skin must have no blemishes, must not be too light or too dark, must be perfectly smooth, and all that. That's just not realistic. You don't think the opposite effect will happen here? Those savvy enough to turn it back on will do so, and those who don't will feel bad about themselves I guess. Those who post process will continue to do so. I think its much ado over nothing.2 points -

domboy and one other reacted to ZipZapRap for a topic
We have multiple Surfaces in our house; the Go 2 with 4GB/64GB config is one of them. And honestly, it's fine. It's not a powerhouse, and it's obviously slower than our other machines, Surfaces and non-Surfaces, but it's fine for the use case. As a primary device, I would go for the 8GB/128GB machine, but as a secondary device or educational device, or even a basic consumption device (stream everything), then it's absolutely fine. I'd imagine the Laptop Go is the same.2 points -

Why? I take quite a lot of them. I travel a lot, and while I would say about 99% of my photos are not of me, I do like a photo of me in places I've been to. How is that a problem for me, you or anyone else? Like my post also says, I take a selfie when traveling to a new place for the first time as well. That wasn't who I was talking about though. So who were you talking about? There's literally nothing wrong with selfies. They aren't the problem. The problem is a world where kids feel the need to validate themselves - whether it's with a selfie or self-harm. It's pretty simple to blame "the world" we live in for all your problems when the problem could just as well be you. Explain to me how the ones who more or less spend most of their time taking pictures of themselves and posting them all over social media is fine? I agree the "selfie" as far as the FFC and tech/tool isn't the issue, I didn't say it was, I said the problem lies with people who take too many of them, period. Unless you like to see more vanity and narcissism going around? You call it vanity and narcissism, I call it kids without a sense of identity, trying to validate in all the wrong ways.1 point -
Nvidia delays GeForce RTX 3070 release to stock up before launch day
andy_3_913 reacted to Paul1979UK for a topic
That would be a first. True but every action I've seen from Nvidia with the 30 series gives the impression that they know AMD has something special or suspect they do. I doubt Nvidia would have rushed out the 30 series so soon if they didn't fear what AMD had or have such a beefy fan and consume so much energy and be at a reasonable price point for Nvidia standards. It all feels like they know something about RDNA 2 or suspect and it's got them worried because this isn't normal Nvidia tactics in many areas.1 point -

Just checked 800€ for a 2080TI, they will try until the very end. I guess they will end up selling them for 450€ because even in shortage of the 3070 it will definitely worth waiting. Prices on ebay amaze me sometimes, i just keep thinking Europe needs a more lean to reality approach used items selling platform. Sometimes it looks that ebay used stuff is on a different perspective/reality, we can't find a fair business, just for luck. Its like selling used stuff to fools. I really think there's a huge market for used stuff sold by real persons. The reputation system would be easy to implement, people would sell and buy constantly if it had a sense of reality and community approach. just checked on ebay and some people are trying to sell them for £925! LOL talk about getting a grip in reality...1 point -

But it's at least a nice (probably useless) gesture, and hopefully can help to start a conversation. I sure wouldn't describe it as "much ado". If they completely removed the option, sure. But it's just off by default. It made an article. At least twice. Someone made a big deal of it I wouldn't be surprised if this hurts sales, which would be funny in its own right. Twice on this site? Either way, I'd still say an article simply noting the change isn't a huge deal. Twice on this site? Er, no. Google thought it was important enough to mention. Then this site. Probably others. Either someone thought it was a big deal or its a slow news day. Could be the latter I suppose. Anyway, its an amusing issue. Thanks for the discussion OK I was gonna say, I must have missed it the first time. And I agree, it is a bit amusing that we've gotten to this point. The real base model, if you will, is the 8GB/128GB SSD model at $699 if you ask me. The $549 model has 4GB RAM, which is workable depending on what you do with it, but the storage is the slower 64GB eMMC, a pain in todays world. But video streaming apps on iOS don't force developers to submit each show individually. And that is the point. I don't quite understand. So Apple lets other developers publish video streaming services as they please, and Microsoft has usually done the same. If Microsoft wanted to start a video streaming service and put it on iOS, they could do that without a problem. Why should they stop Apple from making their service available in the same way? Why does one entertainment platform get the pass and the other one does not? And before you say "interactivity", there are interactive movies on Netflix AFAIK.1 point -

Well, this might be a good thing for consumers. Instead of spending $150-200 on a ###### media box, consumers could consider spending $299 for a new Xbox Series S capable of better upscaling and audio along with next generation gaming, and 512GB of storage. Or even grab an Xbox One S for $199 as available. However, it would be funny to see Microsoft do something crazy to Apple with this, but knowing Microsoft, they will do the right thing for consumers and not bitchslap Apple like they deserve. Oh, I had heard that this was a tangential deal between Apple and Microsoft, and there was going to be an xCloud App for Apple TV. Which apparently won't be happening anytime soon, unless Apple makes a 'special' deal for Microsoft. Ha1 point -
