Save 88% off this Eureka Hosting & Storage Lifetime Subscription Bundle
Sin2x and one other reacted to wingliston for a topic
Never trust these lifetime scams! Take a look at what happened to Zoolz recently. They terminated all lifetime accounts and only gave us 14 days to retrieve our files. They will delete all our files on October 15th unless we upgrade to their monthly Zoolz Business subscription. I'm trapped downloading all my files manually because they disabled the multi selection download button. The Zoolz backup program is also broken, so there’s no way to restore from the vault or cold storage. Zoolz is holding our files ransom until we upgrade. Avoid anything under these cloud services: Zoolz, BigMINDS, Polarbackup.2 points -

Well then good news! There are a ton of texture packs out there, from those that make the textures even simpler, to those that try to make them as realistic as possible. Selfie retouching will be turned off on the Pixel 4a and 5 for improved mental wellbeing
wolftail reacted to derpityderp for a topic
If anything I'd say this is too little. The whole Instagram/Snapchat/selfie culture (yeah I know that's a terrible way of describing it but you know what I mean) has had a pretty demonstrably negative effect on people, especially young girls. I'm not sure what the solution is but I can't imagine why you'd get worked up over a setting like this being turned off by default and call others "snowflakes" over it. The thing is, it’s not a mental health thing. It’s no different than banning beauty magazines back in the day for the same reason. Why didn’t that happen? Was mental health not a thing back then?😉 Anyway, it’s an observation. I’m not worked up over anything. Not sure where you got that from. Is posting a sign of getting worked up? Because you know, you might be worked up over my comment. I'd argue that the culture is much different today than back then with magazines because it's much more readily available. It also is more subtle; with a beauty magazine it's pretty obvious, but when people (especially children) are inundated with images that are supposedly "real" and "no filter", that starts to set an unrealistic mental standard. We may also be interpreting "mental health" differently. I'm not taking it that they're talking about an illness per se, but rather that it's just not healthy to have the mentality that your skin must have no blemishes, must not be too light or too dark, must be perfectly smooth, and all that. That's just not realistic. You don't think the opposite effect will happen here? Those savvy enough to turn it back on will do so, and those who don't will feel bad about themselves I guess. Those who post process will continue to do so. I think its much ado over nothing. Good software allows you to easily do what you want and gives you the choice over whether or not you want to do it. This is unlike most modern software. The right thing is to have it off by default and make it easily discoverable for those who want it. Why would you want a camera taking inaccurate pictures of faces by default?1 point -

Nvidia delays GeForce RTX 3070 release to stock up before launch day
random_n reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
That would be a first. True but every action I've seen from Nvidia with the 30 series gives the impression that they know AMD has something special or suspect they do. I doubt Nvidia would have rushed out the 30 series so soon if they didn't fear what AMD had or have such a beefy fan and consume so much energy and be at a reasonable price point for Nvidia standards. It all feels like they know something about RDNA 2 or suspect and it's got them worried because this isn't normal Nvidia tactics in many areas. Agree, although I am a bit more hesitant about what AMD is going to be able to provide. If AMD is just going head to head with NVidia in speed and CUs, NVidia will probably still have a lead, as the best AMD leaks seem to hit between the 3070 and 3080 at best, with most comparison showing their offering in hardware would be more like the 2080 ti. Now, AMD does have the potential to use a few new technologies, specifically new instruction sets from Microsoft in the silicon instead of only having generic compute streams. By implementing DirectX or even Vulkan & Direct friendly instructions in the silicon, AMD could provide a significant jump over NVidia in gaming performance. Even if this happens, the trade off would be outside gaming, where AMD GPUs with general compute won't get a dramatic boost, and things like Blender/Etc would still be limited to the speed and processors on the GPU. Putting more DirectX framework functions in silicon has significant jumps in performance, with some calls and operations being nearly 1000 times faster. Using the example I have used before, the GPU in the Xbox One X was the first to build some DX features in the GPU silicon. And even though it is hardware equivalent to an RX 580 GPU, it was able to provide 1080 ti and 2080 levels of performance. Which also means the GPU was also compensating for the much slower Jaguar cores as well to get this level of performance. Essentially in gaming, Microsoft took and RX 580 and with integrated instructions, it was faster than AMD's own 5700 XT. So this is where AMD could punch back at NVidia hard, if they are willing to go this direction, and if it is possible in more of a general GPU design, or even if Microsoft is letting AMD have access to the technology. (Assume they are, but never know.) The other AMD CPU leaks looks like AMD is going to be hitting Intel hard at the hardware level, but also with a new bi-compute core model, shoving single core performance close to 2x. If this is real, it is brilliant, and should have been pursued a long time ago by Intel. However, it wasn't that long ago that Intel wasn't interested in large core counts, a fundamental need for this type of parallel computing design. The next few weeks should be interesting, at the very least. Even if AMD doesn't pull a big GPU out of their hat to go head to head with NVidia's upper end or even 3080 range, AMD has done enough to keep NVidia pushing, and one reason we have seen solid gains and adoption of new technologies the last two generations.1 point -

But it's just off by default. It made an article. At least twice. Someone made a big deal of it I wouldn't be surprised if this hurts sales, which would be funny in its own right. Twice on this site? Either way, I'd still say an article simply noting the change isn't a huge deal. Twice on this site? Er, no. Google thought it was important enough to mention. Then this site. Probably others. Either someone thought it was a big deal or its a slow news day. Could be the latter I suppose. Anyway, its an amusing issue. Thanks for the discussion OK I was gonna say, I must have missed it the first time. And I agree, it is a bit amusing that we've gotten to this point. If anything, I feel this move should be commended and "snowflakes" should perhaps be applied to people who can't deal with not looking perfect in a picture, and therefore feel the need to use filters like this. Should I have instead said, our "oversensitive population"? Because thats what it boils down to. As a society, we are becoming so sensitive that anything that someone might be construed as offensive or not PC must be shunned or condemned and I find it hilarious and sad at the same time. I guess I come from an older, tougher, generation and don't understand. Well I'll agree that people are too sensitive, but I disagree that this is one of those cases. It's been well-documented that this stuff does affect people mentally, and so if a company wants to take steps to try to work against that, symbolically or no, then I'm for it. I see a difference because it's not a case of people "getting offended", but rather of a subconscious, unhealthy mental conditioning.1 point -
