and so, the bloat begins. I probably wouldn't even be mad if it worked in my country but Bing can't even give me results in my country to buy stuff even if I search for it. I don't hold high expectations for this. Just leave it as an extension so they can quietly kill off in a few months.6 points -
Eve's "Surface killer" successor has been revealed with 16:10 display, no USB Type-A
margrave and 3 others reacted to Skwerl for a topic
As to the "Surface killer" claim, I beg to differ. Even when I had the Eve V in my possession, I was not nearly as fond of it as my Surface The keyboard was clunky and did not stay attached to the unit, the touchscreen was erratic at times, the screen was no better than the Surface's and it didn't perform as well as they'd lead you to believe. The damned screen shattered when dropped only a couple weeks after I received the unit. My surfaces have gone through worse and have been fine. It was a disappointing purchase in all regards.4 points -

margrave and 3 others reacted to Skwerl for a topic
This company is a mess. Do not buy anything from them. They have had the $1,700 "surface killer" I bought from them for two years and will not send it back. They just ignore my e-mails. And if you think I am alone in this, you are dead wrong. They haven't even shipped most of the orders they took in 2016. They just kept people's money. There's been some odd shiftiness about who really owns the company (it appears to be Chinese, now) and who to blame for all this crap.4 points -

Pretty good prices for sure, I think anything over the 5800x for just gaming is a waste, IMO. 8/16 is good for gaming at this point and it's got a higher base clock to start with. It also matches up with the consoles better as far as core/thread counts, and those are the baseline devs will use. If you're going to be doing other work though, anything that loves more cores will benefit for sure.3 points -

Microsoft plans to unify Outlook across platforms using web technologies
Jumping Jacinta and one other reacted to shockz for a topic
lol, your cherished MS is the reason why we're using slow and heavy frameworks for PWA/web apps... so much in fact that MS themselves pushed for PWA over Modern, and their fans ate it up, even on this site. While iOS and sometimes Android have efficient and keyword... popular... frameworks to build native on... Microsoft wasn't able to come up with a competitive framework to build native apps under, not without risking multiple platform reboots and complete rewrites that developers didn't want to deal with in terms of time and money... and we ended up with bloated web apps that'll never be faster than any native app because most users still rely on Windows for their workflow. I guess it's great for a universal offering, but not so much in terms of UI consistency across applications, performance.2 points -

20%? wishful thinking. More like 10% from Sky Lake which means it's about 8% uplift from the current i9 10900. We'll have to wait another 1-1/2 for intel to catch up to the 5000series. But by then AMD is coming with Zen 4 with DDR5 and PCIe5 support.2 points -

Global Privacy Control is a new initiative to help people enforce their rights
Xenon and one other reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
This helps, but without more comprehensive laws, a huge chunk of user data is not included. It is like with Google, they show users the data they have on them, and allow them to delete and manage that data. HOWEVER, that is the data the user directly authorized Google to obtain and use. Google keeps private user data file on everyone, that is considered 'anonymized' - even though Google tags these records to users, and even in cases when it doesn't contain information like the user name (collected from Google searches and Ads for example) - a simple lookup with Google data or public records can identify the person the data belongs. Like anonymous location data, there are only a few people that live in your house and go to your work. Google does not allow users to access or manage this data, and they also don't delete it no matter what the user does.2 points -

Microsoft outlines 10 app store principles in a jab at Apple
Jumping Jacinta reacted to freedonX for a topic
I disagree - I don't think it's these principles that make the Microsoft Store bad. It's honestly the freedom on a Windows PC to install executables that make the Store not necessary. The Microsoft Store has gotten a lot better. For PC's, I'd compare the Microsoft Store to the App Store on Mac OS. I keep forgetting there's a Windows Store while using my WIndows 10 machines1 point -

Google begins adding HTTP/3 and IETF QUIC support in Chrome
Jose_49 reacted to felrefordit for a topic
No, Google didn't just begin adding HTTP/3 support to Chrome, because - as the blog post actually says - they've been working on it for 5 years now, and you could already enable experimental HTTP/3 in Chrome a year ago in Canary Chrome 79. What they're doing now is instead adding support for IETF's version of the QUIC protocol, which is slightly different from their own (ie. Google's) version of the QUIC protocol (which HTTPS/3 runs over), so, they can support both.1 point -

Global Privacy Control is a new initiative to help people enforce their rights
MateerL reacted to Tuskd for a topic
the problem is, this 'anonymous' user data is basically a gold mine, and a large chunk of the software/internet industry, and in turn the global economy, runs on this. Stopping this collection will massively hurt advertising, telemetry, search & social services, etc. which make up the majority of the internet, and giants like Facebook, Google, Amazon, and agencies like NSA will oppose this. I do hope we can gather enough support to stop abuse of a person's digital life- this is becoming like slavery of the 21st century, /rant Yet with all this data, why are we getting crappy services? We don't get ads that we actually want to click. Ads are still just digital versions of billboards from the physical world. We don't get that particular song/movie in our recommendation that will stick in our heads. Its the same crap everyone gets in their recommendations. We don't get the exact result we search for even when our search terms are exactly that. Its always some random popular result unless we put our terms in "" or +. We don't get post from exactly the people we connect to the most. We need to keep scrolling to find what we need. Its like my data is only used to find out what's "popular" and spread that crap to everyone else, never me. Another scenario, even if the corporations know what I like, they will still sell crap to me because the entity behind the crap has paid enough to shove it to me. Or that these corporation won't care to optimize the experience for me because that is too much effort. Or they intentionally do this so that I don't feel scared that a corporation knows so much about me. See the number of possible theories? Its exactly why I made it a point to not use/pay for any product/service from a for-profit corporation that does not benefit me well directly, tries to withhold something from me that I should know of, or requests data/info outside the scope of the transaction. I have had enough of "We will use your data to improve our Products and Services" crap. /end of rant1 point -

Slack is working to add 'Stories' and a push-to-talk audio chat capability later this year
lordpake reacted to dead.cell for a topic
I don't understand the point having Slack when a company would already have Office 365. It's a waste of money having two different service that does that same thing but you get the Office suite too. It's a good reason why our government shouldn't be run as a business. LOL While I agree with this, I did like Slack for the brief period I used it for. the interface is quite clean compared to Teams which could use some updating. The only real reason we even switched was because whatever's on Teams doesn't roll off. Realistically, Microsoft's got them by the balls. I don't see how Slack can compete with pricing when Microsoft bakes it into the Office licensing.1 point -
