I disagree - I don't think it's these principles that make the Microsoft Store bad. It's honestly the freedom on a Windows PC to install executables that make the Store not necessary. The Microsoft Store has gotten a lot better. For PC's, I'd compare the Microsoft Store to the App Store on Mac OS.4 points -

and so, the bloat begins. I probably wouldn't even be mad if it worked in my country but Bing can't even give me results in my country to buy stuff even if I search for it. I don't hold high expectations for this. Just leave it as an extension so they can quietly kill off in a few months.3 points -

Microsoft will let employees work from home permanently
Good Bot, Bad Bot and one other reacted to adrynalyne for a topic
The article on The Verge covers this quite well: "While Microsoft employees will be allowed to move across country for remote work, compensation and benefits will change and vary depending on the company’s own geopay scale. Microsoft will be covering home office expenses for permanent remote workers, but any that decide to move away from Microsoft’s offices will need to cover their own relocation costs." Thats...not reduced salary?2 points -

So it's a $100 price increase for the iPhone 12 vs last year's 11? That's kind of unfortunate. At least give it 128GB minimum to try to justify it better.2 points -

Google wants to turn YouTube into a shopping platform in a new test
300z and one other reacted to George P for a topic
Ugghh, Aren't the ads enough? And besides, if this pushes you to their own Google shopping system or w/e isn't that sort of seen as possibly being anti-competative? Right now, streamers show off products and link directly to the product pages, if in the future this just pushes you to a google shop of sorts, so they can take a cut of the sale, I'm not interested in it.2 points -
Google wants to turn YouTube into a shopping platform in a new test
300z and one other reacted to Nick H. for a topic
A Youtuber finds a product that they think will sell to their subscribers and so buys amount of the product. Google takes the product and stores it in their warehouse, and then the Youtuber goes on to their channel and streams their advert. Subscribers place an order and it gets shipped to them, with Google taking a percentage of the sale? I don't know, I don't like the idea of YouTube turning towards shopping any more than it already does.2 points -

As a former IT guy, even though I like Home Office, if you have a lot of interaction with your teamates working in the same location space gets the job faster . Typing is nowhere as fast as calling the guy 2 spaces beside you. Say for example ticket solving to clients If your proyect doesn't need interaction with teammates, then home office is enough.2 points -

Microsoft plans to unify Outlook across platforms using web technologies
mip and one other reacted to PWazzle for a topic
There's a lot misinformation in these comments, and I wouldn't worry about that, I don't think this is referencing the desktop apps becoming web wrappers or electron apps or anything. The Outlook clients are being rebuilt with 'React'. However, 'React' itself, at its core, is not actually bound to the web. It's a library / framework based around JSX (its own language that is basically a combination of javascript, and xml), and what React does is provide a quick way of declaring components and then updates them when their props change. While React is commonly used in web apps to handle updating the components of a web app, it doesn't necessarily have to be. React Native is a project that lets you declare and code your UI in jsx, and then when you build it, it will compile your javascript / xml components into native C++ components for whatever platform you want to build for. In that way React Native is like an abstract UI language that lets you code once but produce native applications for multiple platforms. React Native for a long time has predominantly only support Android and iOS, however, over the last year or two Microsoft has picked up development of React Native for Windows & MacOS. That's what the new Xbox Apps are coded in, and have seen massive performance improvements. I think it's safe to assume that Outlook will similarly be going down this React Native path.2 points -

Google wants to turn YouTube into a shopping platform in a new test
300z reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
Google looks at Amazon affiliate links from videos, and see money and information that they are missing out. Patreon was a similar eye-opener for Google, that pushed Google to offer internal subscriptions for creators. I get this is business, but the dark/###### side is that Google are isolating any and all platform partners and tangential partners. Sponsor and companies that work with YouTube content creators, should be worried, because if they have success, Google will claw their way in and take over their business model as well. Google is an observe and predatory model, in that they don't create or innovate anything, instead they see trends and find where others are successful, and then take them over. Going back to lawsuits in the 00s, this is what Google Search was doing with every off beat website, and when a new product search system or site search technology was introduced, Google quietly added this technology to Google Search and took over that product and company's work, while also de-listing them from Google results. The only option for companies has been to tightly lock their content sites from Google, and also try to find ways to get customers through Google results anyway. Go back to Yelp and Amazon lawsuits against Google, and there are tons of other services like flight and car and apartment and property services that have had to sue or break Google from coming in and taking over their services, while yanking them off of Google search. There is still a number of things that appear on Bing, that Google buries a few pages down. Along with vertical and horizontal search technologies still slowly being rolled into Google Search. So for YouTube creators and their 'partners' outside Google, be prepared to find alternate methods to keep the links and relationships going. Well established creators are already branching out to subscription platforms, just for the day when YouTube digs more into their sponsor and sales models. Google just sucks, and far more than the traditional corporate greed crap we see happen.1 point -

Yeah I have to admit, Youtube is getting worse now with its ads, on average now we are seeing two ads for the price of one, back to back and we are seeing more of them. I won't shift away from Youtube yet but if it continues to get worse, I'll look at other alternatives which ironically will be an opening for rivals to take advantage if the service of Youtube gets worse.1 point -
