  1. I'm loving how all these companies are starting to grow a pair. Get rid of the mentally unstable people who think things like microchips are in vaccines. Well done Google and Facebook for the last couple of days.

  2. Yeah, let's make the World Health Organization be the arbiter of truth. Oh wait, weren't they the ones that were outright lying to the public when the pandemic was first starting, saying that face masks were not effective? And that interview where the WHO official was afraid to utter the word "Tiawan" was a complete disgrace. The problem is, there is no person or organization that can be trusted to be the arbiter of truth. Scientists are not infallible. Like any person they are influenced by money and the need to make a living. Organizations will fund research that aligns with their views and deny funding to research that challenges their views. As for YouTube, the way that it runs these days is just sad. I don't know how many times I have seen videos where the creator is afraid to say "coronavirus" or "covid". Voice recognition has been a major curse for creators on the site. It's not just covid-related things that creators are afraid to say.

  8. This wont help to stop spread any information. It is censorship, same as in China. It fits to help sell product - vaccine. Simple marketing of fear. And slow destruction of democracy. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about as a citizen of post-communist country. Censorship is not above freedom of speech in democracy.

  10. "Pretty damn low straight up"?? The death rate of Covid is ridiculously high. It's almost stupid high. And you say BS like that? Then, of course, you go political and even call out "the left". I'd like to call out "The right" then (whatever that means) for downplaying it. One causes death, the other is "fearmongering". HMMMMMMM!!!! If you're a healthy young person than your chance of dying from Covid (assuming post complications are attributed correctly) are pretty low, but it's not about you is it? It's about playing Russian roulette with your grandma and not being a selfish piece of ######.

  11. Microsoft is improving the favorites menu in Edge

Sure, and then let's lobby to change 'favicon' used by other browsers, as 'bookmark' is the proper term. /s Favorites are consistent with Windows and the concept, bookmark is not accurate in the original or literal meaning. Chrome specifically uses 'bookmarks' to not use the Windows terminology. Maybe we should ask Google to conform, instead of creating a difference on purpose. Especially considering almost all users have used IE or Edge or Windows at some point. To be a bit more serious, is it really that confusing to use the original terminology going back 25 years? Bookmarks as a term predates Google in its entirety. In fact, Bookmarks as a term predates INTERNET EXPLORER. Nice try though. https://adrianroselli.com/2014...-netscape-navigator-10.html See the bookmarks menu? Netscape Navigator 1.0 released in December, 1994. Internet Explorer 1.0 released in August, 1995, which for the sake of being different, renamed Bookmarks to Favorites. You uh, you got a little bit of revisionist history going on there. Bookmarks has been a term for at least 26 years.

  12. I am, of course, very happy about this. But we should all realize that they are doing this in order to pre-empt congress from passing new regulations next year to do it for them. And, of course, the only reason they never did this kind of moderation in the past was because it would have...GASP!!!..affected their quarterly profits. But, any forward progress on stemming the seemingly never-ending steams of this ignorant fearmongering brain diarrhea is a good thing.

  19. There is a fundamental difference between what is known to be false and what is the unknown. There is also a fundamental difference between what is false, and what is debatable. What causes autism? No one knows. Does vaccine cause autism? No. Is waiting for the vaccine the best strategy against Covid? Maybe. No one said anything about WHO being the arbiter of truth. But there are some things that are fundamentally false, and those should be removed. Scientists are not infalliable, but you hardly ever listen to the opinion of one, you are listening to the opinion of many. This is how science works, it is the opinion of many who are specialized in the field and understand. Scientists disclose their funders as part of proper etiquette, and I doubt many funders would advocate for lockdowns seeing how that affects revenue of all businesses. Unless you mean to say Zoom is buying out thousands of scientists. I mean just think for a second, what company or organisation with enough clout really wants Covid to be a thing? Use your brain. This whole challenging funding thing is such a myth. It took years and years of scientists trying to convince the world that tobacco is dangerous, and they did it because despite the best efforts of the tobacco company to deny it through coercion, bribery and legal actions, the science was crystal clear early on. And most scientists are smart people, they could have had a successful career doing something else. Funding is important, but pay check is not the end all, be all for them.

  20. So you authing to your email is encrypted, you sending the email is encrypted. And the email itself is encrypted. What is the point of the VPN? I get it your cell service sucks.. So you use the local wifi.. My point is pretty much all traffic is encrypted these days, and your encrypting the email itself.. And your vpn sucks - but sure lets pay X $ a month so my connection can suck more than it already does.. I don't get it... Other than you sending dns in the clear - what part of your internet traffic do you actually think is in the clear? That this local wifi could see? This is no longer everything in http, and open wifi.

  24. the original source doesn't say this in fact Yeah it's weird how Neowin added this. I've been doing it since the 9x days, I had a monitor in the 90s which would frequently default to 60hz at higher resolutions, being a CRT it was unusable so I'd regularly change it to a higher refresh.

  28. YouTube will remove videos containing misinformation around COVID-19 vaccines

Remember when Youtube demonetized/shadowbanned channels for just using the word Coronavirus or Covid19? Why so many of them had to come up with an alternative word? my favorite from GN was Human Malware. And we are supposed to trust Youtube in this case? I don't like censorship on both sides, when it is about the information I agree with or disagree with.

  30. It's not censorship It's not censorship It's not censorship It's not censorship Hypothesis: Is Youtube censoring? Test: Can we find evidence on the net of people that it was banned unjustly? Yes. Is it replicable the test?. Yes. Can we find an anti-thesis? Yes too (people that haven't been banned). Conclusion: Youtube censors people however, it is not generalized or for every case. I.e. yes but not always.

  31. Such as when the WHO said that the Coronavirus was harmless, or when a medic that was obviously censored, claimed that it wasn't simple flu (and later he died), or the other medic (that also was censored and tagged as a conspiracy theorist) that claimed that the Chinese State hid vital information and now she is a refugee in the USA. People claim that they are pro-science but they are unable to understand the core basics of science, the scientific method: hypothesis -> test -> thesis. Practically every new hypothesis is crazy until it is proved. If you deny the right to question, then you are denying the science. For example, graphene could be the source of limitless energy. It breaks many axioms. Now, if we ban it, and the whole society is as dumb as to deny a new hypothesis without testing, then we could lose a huge advance in society. Maybe it is a fake or maybe not but in case of doubt, TEST IT NOT JUST BAN IT. There are some wacko hypotheses around here but without testing, we couldn't simply deny it. ALSO Youtube is managed by hypocrites. They censor some videos because they (and most of the time, without proof of it) consider as "fake news". However, Youtube promotes and earns money from companies selling snake-oil and shady companies.

  32. Huawei is reportedly considering selling its Honor smartphone unit

If you are looking for a company to blame, blame Samsung or Apple. Shipping 2018 vs 2020 Huawei 11% / 20% Samsung 22% / 20% Apple 14% / 14% Xiaomi 8% / 10% Oppo 7% / 9% IMHO, Huawei is doing it great and I don't know why we should "blame" Samsung or Apple. Apple has a loyal base but it is stale. And Samsung took a small dive. Now imagine where they would be if it weren't for the stupid US/Trump shenanigans! Trump did the same that China hadn't done in the last decade.

It's a bit out of date now, in that we're at 210k Covid deaths and expected to see 100-200k more over the next few months, but it should show you why Covid is now the third leading cause of death of Americans, and only Americans...all because a stupid, selfish, crooked, greedy, ignoramus President didn't want to hurt his election chances. Apple showed that was not the case yesterday. The magnetic wallet pouch was pretty cool. Wow, a magnetic CC holder. So much innovation. Incredible! A magnetically aligning charging solution that resolves a known issue with the overall technology, but can also be repurposed to accomplish other usability and connectivity tasks when not fulfilling it's primary purpose. It's easy to be facetious but you've made a bit of a fool of yourself there... Thank you for clarification! Apple will never forget your contributions Show me on the doll where they hurt you

There were some concerns, but they are still keeping 0 logging as they did before, and even made their software open source as well https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/blog/private-internet-access-goes-open-source/. Linus had removed them like they did with tunnel bear, but after talking with the leadership team he continued to allow them as a sponsor as they assured him about the current security staying in place and no selling of data -

You can also do this using Tasker. While I don't use the DnD option on my phone, I have set a rule that says when I am at home (based on my GPS location) it should switch the profile to silent, and when I leave the house (i.e. when I am outside of that GPS location) it should switch the sounds on (ringtone, notification tone).

  50. Read headline, this is great I must read. Your comment echoes my thoughts shortly after. Hey guys, this is the author. Like I said at the end, I know the process to get started is a bit convoluted, but there's a few things I want to note: I made the guide to try to take into account people who might not have any idea of what to do and I tried to go through steps that are really easy to click through. I think if you know how to use a computer, most things here will be done much faster than it takes to read them. This is a guide written by someone who learned how to do things in about two days. I had never even heard of Snap Core First before Google's announcement on Tuesday, and I wrote the guide on Thursday night, so I learned things relatively quickly. Finally, while the setup process is a bit complicated, things work really great once you've set it up. I wrote the guide exactly because I found the capability super useful to me personally, and my feelings haven't changed. I control my lights all the time with this. If you're unsure if it's worth it, I think you should really give it a shot.
