So what you mean is business do not need to adhere to the law of the country if they wish to do business there?

Odd that we don't see the WTO balking at the Chinese ban on things like Google... Sorry, but as much as I despise Trump, i agree with him on this issue. App's like WeChat are known to be fully under the control and monitoring of the Chinese government and should not be allowed to operate within the western nations borders.

So what you mean is business do not need to adhere to the law of the country if they wish to do business there? Well done on completely and utterly missing the entire point. So what is the point? If you can't figure that out, I can't help you. Try thinking, it helps. The problem is you are raising 2 completely different points, one that the WTO is not raising issue with companies nows operating in china, then the other that chinese companies are monitoring data. Google isn't operating there because the chinese LAW, yes, LAW requires it to do things it doesn't want to do, therefore they are not operating there, the WTO does not say if laws are right or not, it just says if they're being adided by. Chinese apps or any apps by any company in any country that listen in on user data is a whole different issue if they do it where it isn't allowed, however in china legally (I'm not saying the law is good or should be there just that it is a law) it is a requirement for companies to do that.

  12. Yes—that’s the downfall of an agile approach. We need to go back to the multi-year releases with CUs and Service Packs to fix and refine in between. I would disagree that this has anything to do with the 'agile' model. Microsoft had an agile model in the 90s, with just as frequent updates, yet even things that didn't look much different like Win95 with IE/4 or Win98, had massive technological differences and UI changes as users dug into the differences. The problem is Apple has shoved the SAME UI since the crap they cobbled together in 1984. And even though this would normally seem like a really horrible model (it is), users and tech 'movers grow older and like what they know. Apple makes a lot of money from an OS with a 1984 UI. The industry and fickle users have pushed back on almost every new user level technology feature, especially UI model changes from Microsoft. Not because they suck, but because Microsoft isn't as cool or trendy as Google, and people are less willing to give things a try. (Which also hurts the changes, as the critics are the best people to use it, kind of like it, and give more feedback to fix it.) Look at the fresh study based UI concepts put into the Metro apps in the 90s, people didn't like them. Next as people moved to NT, even cosmetic BS started to become a point of contention. WinXP's most damning aspect, was the 'crayon' looking theme, something that could be changed, or turned off. Yet people still complain about it even now or similar nonsensical stuff today. In Win95, there were users that didn't wan the newer UI, but these are the same people that liked saving all their Word documents in the C:\Word folder on their computer, and still thought about data in DOS and tree constructions. Most people were excited about Win95 and the new way of working with documents and software, and this is why people lined to get it, much like Apple users do now. Vista didn't change as much as people like to complain it did in terms of UI. Again with 7, and 10 today isn't really as far from Vista/7 as people like to wax on about. Even Win8 was just a full screen Start Menu. Then you find the people that complain about WIn10 things that look older, while also complaining equally about the cosmetic that looks new. There are a few UI concepts Microsoft has partially been able to convert the world towards. Like moving away from Menu Bars (A text UI concept) and on to the Ribbon or the concept of not burying options in Menus and sub-dialog boxes. Part of the reason people were ok with this, was they found things and features they didn't know existed, and they like dynamic/live previews of things like font changes. The Ribbon bar and variations away from Menus isn't the best either, and I'm afraid users will never let Microsoft or anyone try newer concepts out, even if the current model is left in place. (Most users don't do this with Search and flat data access concepts, and instead go back to digging through folders like they did in 1995.) We also see users demanding OLDER UI concepts, all while they think they are asking for something 'better/newer' because Apple and Google told them the old ###### was better. (Mainly because they don't want to have to do the work the newer UI's require from designers and developers.) I'm not a fan of the current updates and timeline with Windows. It has gotten crazy, when it should be so simple based on the 'concept' There should also be a two/three year update that focuses on new UI concepts and more major OS features that users can see and use. Instead, their long term update timeline and goals were so far off, that by the time they got close, the needs and functionality needs were different, like dynamic UI and Core and X all not doing what they are needed to do by being started so long ago, and 5 years in technology is several generations now. (Just some thoughts, these are a response beyond that I don't think it is the update model that has hurt innovation and UI development. The rest is just for anyone reading throuhg.) Yeah, don't care if you disagree. You have shown too many times that you like to baffle with BS. Apple takes baby steps on a yearly basis and has for 20+ years. Thats why it works. MS went full retard and threw a huge OS redesign into it (half-arsed at that), not understanding the implications and now are taking baby steps to fix it, to keep within an agile development process.

  13. I try to follow this stuff a bit but I keep zoning out. It's like desktop OS development is completely dead. I can't think of anything new that genuinely changes the feel of using a PC in the last decade, maybe more. It's all so dull and slow now that the only thing there is to say is how much better Linux has gotten at games -- which is less an innovation and more a statement of how much things have slowed down, allowing Linux to gain some ground. Had some hope for touch, but that fizzled out. Had some hope for VR, but that fizzled out. Maybe when Apple finishes inventing Google Glass we can get back to trying new things again.

You do realise that any company that wants to do busisness in another country has to abide the rules that country sets out regardless of what you might think of that or what the company might think of it. We might not like those rules but China can set whatever rules they want in that country, it's up to companies to decide on if they want to still do business in that market by those rules, most do and most will bend over backwards to have access to such a big market and this is the case for any markets, especially big ones like the EU and US.

Many folks seem to missunderstand this device. It is not oriented for consumer but for business. You want a device to be productive in a business environment. Watching Instagram and Youtube on 2 screens is not a factor to be productive. Go to any mid-serious business and the workstations will have 2 monitors. Think of that, but in a porable device. Heck in my parents business even my mom has 2 monitors. She's a 75 year lady who will never go back to 1 monitor. Business devices have NEVER been top-notch consumer grade. A little of google and you'll see that. I would love it, but can' justify the price if I already have a Desktop, a good phone and Surface Pro 6.

Linux has come such a long way since I began using it in 2008. There were a lot of quirks such as wifi not working out of the box, several streaming services not being available, hardly any good games etc. You'll see the biggest change in desktop enhancements if you just upgrade between LTS releases as new stuff get added in these inter-LTS releases so they have time to mature before an LTS.

  27. Well, it is. How often are you not near a device without access to online resources? The technology exists now that every person in the world can have a small device the size of a ring or earring with 1Gbps 24/7 connectivity in all regions and areas of operation. The reason this type of access and cover is not available to users and probably won't for ten years, isn't about cost or viability, it is about access and the profit potential companies have to delay the technologies. 10 more years paying $100 for a 200Mbps connection is hard for a company to pass up. This is an example of how unfettered capitalism and a free market betrays progress. The 'free market' for online access are the ISP push suppliers to compete, and they could give less than a ###### about consumers. In this type of upended capitalism, the consumers do not create or shift the market, instead they consume what they are allowed. Side Note:(Anyone see how this dark/unregulated side of capitalism, looks identical to oppressive systems, as the choice/freedom is on the wrong side of the market.) Also, the narrative about this story isn't fully accurate, as the only games that would be affected are on secondary systems. Every user's main system has offline authorization for things like Game Pass where the user doesn't have a permanent license for the title. Even on secondary systems, there are ways around accessing non-owned titles by shifting/delaying authentication.

  30. I still find windows 10 to be the most unstable version of windows I've ever used (on build 1903). Sometimes when I start my laptop between the boot screen and the login screen appearing it can take minutes with a black screen - for no reason. Keyboard and other devices are unresponsive. Sometimes it fails to shutdown and just sits on the 'shutting down' loading screen (noticed this more recently when using hyperv guests - issue on the host OS not the guests) and it needs to be physically powered off, among other nibbling issues. Windows XP had it's issues, but even they weren't this bad 4 years after the initial release. Windows server 2019 on a VM has a frozen start menu - I still can't figure this one out, first time it opens it's frozen, you have to close it and reopen it and then you cannot use the keyboard on it at all, only the mouse, and that started happening after a cumulative update.

  31. The Surface Duo is already $200 off at the Microsoft Store

Arstechnica has a very in-depth and scathing review of the Surface Duo that puts the entire development of this device to perspective. Few points: There were lots of unnecessary compromises to make this device feel like a moleskin. This device was supposed to run Windows (Andromeda) The move to Android was outsourced to a different company Android delayed the launch of this device They just wanted this device out to recoup the cost of development The device is still unusably buggy

  32. The Surface Duo is already $200 off at the Microsoft Store

i doubt it - but if it is 200 - i will seriously consider getting one or not, the reviews are not promising at all: The Good It's pretty. The flat glass and ultra-thin profile makes for a compelling ultra-premium looking design. The Bad The lack of a split keyboard means you're stuck with one-finger typing in the standard "book" configuration. You have to swap to single-screen mode to get two fingers on the keyboard. The phone is extraordinarily wide for no reason. Android apps don't do well on wide screens, so you either get a huge UI or giant margins. The width means the phone doesn't fit well in a pocket and is hard to hold. The whole notification experience is terrible, with a skinny notification panel and no way to see notifications when the phone is closed. There's no NFC. There's no wireless charging. There's no water resistance. There's no high refresh rate display. Microsoft is shipping last year's SoC. You will probably break the USB port. The software is very buggy, and you should expect to regularly fight with wonky gestures, a wonky touchscreen, and lots of problems that will need a reboot or at least closing and opening the phone again. The $1400 price tag. The Ugly Microsoft's "We would really like to ship this existing hardware" mentality ruined all the hype around its entrance into the Android ecosystem.

I wouldn't necessarily expect someone that old to be super familiar with things like 2FA and password managers. Of course, you could make the argument that means you're not really qualified for the position. And I'd probably agree. But no matter what we're gonna have at least 4 more years of that... Ummmm He has a whole cybersecurity team that should be informing him what he needs to be doing which I am sure they are doing. He is just doing it his way because he is the President and he thinks is the smartest person he knows like with everything. BTW We just have a little more than two months left of his nonsense. Do you not read? I literally said "I'm more curious why none of the actual tech-savvy people around him were going "hey you need to be turning on 2FA"." As for why it was this way, you're just spouting speculation. And no. We have four more years. Have you not checked Biden's age recently or are you being deliberately obtuse?

  42. Minecraft Java Edition will soon require a Microsoft account

java edition is still the most popular with a very strong modding community There are close to 130 million Minecraft players that play monthly. Of that, a little over 30 million are playing on the Java version. And the other 100 million play which edition? it's really not a fair comparison though; the bulk is spread across all the consoles including PC and mobile. the Java edition is ONLY playable on PC. the easy modability of the Java version is what keeps it alive; if you could as easily mod on the Bedrock edition to the extent that you can on the Java edition then everyone would move over and the java edition could be retired.

  43. Linux, it just almost works, sometimes, on Tuesday, if the user picked the right packages and didn't screw up too much, and if you are lucky. (I don't envy the MS team trying to support even the main Linux distros, let alone all the variations and insane configuration differences. They should just wrap it, and give up native interaction and performance like most Linux developers are doing.) That's like blaming Microsoft because a third party developer can't correctly detect the installed version of Windows, DirectX, a MSVC runtime, or some other required library. I installed an alpha build of a browser on a beta version of a derivative distribution of Ubuntu. I'm not surprised I ran into an issue. I am no expert, but this was a fairly simple issue to fix: Error: Required package not installed. 1. Do I have the package installed? Yes. 2. What version is installed? Newer than what is supposedly required. 3. Try again, tell the installer to ignore the error. 4. PROFIT. My guess is that Microsoft simply needs to improve their dependency checking rules in their deb package. It could also simply be a bug in dpkg. Either way, Edge on Linux seems to work pretty darn well, and I appreciate Microsoft finally releasing it. As for Linux working so long as you pick the right packages, this isn't 1995. If you install a mainstream version of Linux, the only real problem you might have is with hardware support. That's up to hardware manufacturers, and if they ignore Linux, the community usually adds support on their own anyway. Now if you install Linux and start adding or removing packages without understanding what they do, you can break your install. In my experience though, the package manager typically saves you from yourself unless you start specifically telling it not to (i.e. that "ignore-depends" switch). If you don't want or need to install Linux, you can always keep using whatever you're using now. 🤷‍♂️
