  1. Fairytale of New York: BBC Radio 1 will not play original version

Umm, has anyone bothered listening to the so called music that the 'young people' listen to? It's ripe with swear words and derogatory phrases...

  6. Why are they settling? 113 million is NOTHING to Apple. The only way scummy business practices like this are going to end is if people stop agreeing to take their money and shut up, and force it all the way through to the courts and get a PROPER judgement against them.

  7. Because, MS is not serious enough about its ARM project. Serious? How? For Microsoft to get the push Apple is getting, they would also have to kill off x86/x64 processor support and only focus on ARM devices exclusively. (They could do better with App support, but this is true of x64 Windows as well, with most of the Microsoft 'Apps' are being kicked once in a while to see if the horse makes a sound. ) Apple are dicks, and they get rewarded for it, cause they are willing to screw over their customers, developers, hardware partners, software partners in ways a 'normal' 'ethical' company would not. Apple did not kill x86 support though. In fact, they created a software translation layer that enables every x86 app ever created for seamlessly run on their chip without any loss of performance. I have no love for Apple but I feel they need to be given credit where credit is due. Even though they are a software company, Microsoft's emulation of Win32 apps on ARM sucks in comparison. Without any loss of performance...LOL. Do you truly believe that? You don’t have to look far to see how false that is. Even Apple said there was a performance hit. I am not looking at Apple numbers but have checked several reviews. To give you a real world example, Shadow of the Tomb Raider runs at playable FPS on the Macbook Air whereas it's unplayable on an 11th gen i7 with Intel's latest Iris Xe graphics. They are obviously doing something right.

  8. IBM, Red Hat and others want inclusive language in software

Apparently not. It seems to me that they are triggered purely by hearing a word. Master/slave perfectly describes the relationships of some equipment. It does not imply anything about the evils of human slavery. What amuses me is that these tend to (not always) be the same people who deride others for, for example, not liking people to swear around children. I will bring up that at my workplace we have started removing, specifically, the master/slave verbiage from our systems. And the directive is pretty simple to follow, and isn't one being provided out of a sense of being triggered - but eliminating ammunition for the issue to be raised at all. It's a lot easier to make a concerted effort, plan it and execute than to deal with a massive law suit or other similarly derailing event because some random person got ###### off at the word "slave" in your code and/or documentation. TLDR: This is removing an attack surface for the growing trend of political correctness across the globe. The problem lies in how sensitive society is becoming...it shouldn't even be an attack surface. Next, we will no longer have a black crayon, marker, or pen for fear it triggers someone.

  11. it's more that Apple are comfortable with others leading the way, and take their time to come up with a holistic solution. Apple generally have less cancelled product lines because they thought them out beforehand. Microsoft just chuck stuff at the wall and see what sticks

  19. Microsoft unveils new Fluent icons for its Edge browser

Microsoft releases another bunch of icons that fit the “style du jour” and yet will never be a fully complete design as something else will come along shortly. And yes their PS still suffers many of the same icons as windows 95

  20. Launching Chrome with elevated privileges is necessary for the proper operation of Windows Admin Center in workgroup environments. Microsoft's ideal is to run Windows Admin Center in gateway mode on a member server of a Windows domain. They tell you to purchase a $50,000 TLS certificate for it, even though a free Let's Encrypt certificate works just as well. WAC is inferior to the traditional RSAT but Microsoft isn't listening.

I completely agree with you on this, was mostly pointing out that it's not a matter of the people who planned this being offended, but the growing possibility they may be forced to rewrite massive amounts of their codebase if an incident happens that doesn't go in their favor. Political correctness has gone way off the beaten path from what its intent was. It's stopped being about people who want to cause harm to simply being about deciding words themselves are off limits because they themselves carry the baggage. The fact that someone I know was in a meeting where they questioned if the phrase "hash it out" was appropriate language for the workplace just shows that we are just fishing for things to be upset about.

  22. The Mandalorian

I don't know how to feel about the runtime of each episode. That they range from 30 minutes to an hour can be frustrating as I don't know how much I'm getting each episode, but I guess I prefer that rather than there being unnecessary padding to stretch the episode out. I've enjoyed the episodes so far, and it was great seeing Timothy Olyphant and Katee Sackhoff in their roles. I doubt we'll see the marshal again, but if what I've read about Bo-Katan is right I hope she'll come back at some point.

  23. Yep, can't believe how a Google owned smart watch is still shipping with Amazon Alexa as default assistant. You could take it as a good sign that Google isn't using a heavy hand on FitBit, at least not yet. Alexa integration was in the pipeline before Google acquired FitBit, Google didn't block it and didn't delay the product to add Assistant.

  24. RCS messaging is now available worldwide on Android

iOS doesn't support RCS. It's all about WhatsApp in many countries outside the US, or some other multi platform equivalent which has become the dominant messaging platform. iMessage is like BBM and locked to one platform, I don't foresee RCS changing anything in the next couple of years personally.

Anyway the motherboard manual is pretty clear in these cases with supported RAM types. If you let us know which board it is we can confirm.

  33. Should i replace the wifi card?

Hello, It looks like your computer shipped with a half-height Mini PCIe Wi-Fi card using the Qualcomm Atheros AR5B22 chipset, which is a 2.4GHz-only (802.11b/g/n) radio with a maximum speed of 300Mbps. You could look into replacing it with a newer half-height Mini PCIe Wi-Fi card that support 5GHz bands. Your best bet would probably be an Intel 7260HMW half-height Mini PCIe Wi-Fi card, which supports 802.11ac, up to 867Mbps. I would suggest checking in ASUS own support forum to first verify compatibility, though. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

  35. Apparently from Kyle Bennet (formerly HardOCP) AMD MBA cards will be in short supply up front. However, where you saw NV front-load almost all its cards, AMD is backloading. Once AIB cards hit, you will see 5 to 7 times the inventory released than what NV has shipped total in NA at this time. AMD will be heavily back-loaded into the channel. AMD is shipping ASIC BOM kits nearly daily to AIBs at this point and it will continue to happen throughout Q4. There will be a decent supply through Q4. Now let me say this again as it is worth hearing. There is no way that when AMD was doing its projections for supply, that it could have even fathomed that NVIDIA would totally **** the bed on 3080/90 supply for the quarter, effectively abandoning the $500 to $1000 GPU TAM. NVIDIA has left such a gaping hole in the market that there is no way it can be filled currently. From my information and analysis, AMD projected to grow its portion of the TAM and will have inventory to do that. The sad fact is that NV simply abandoned its customer in that market and there is no possible way for AMD to fill the void.

  38. What is Logitech's problem to USB-C? Their 'universal' adapter STILL has no USB-C version and all their latest hardware (this mouse and the thin keyboard) are micro-USB. Come on Logitech get out of the dark ages. The more USB-C devices I get the more I love it. Can use my laptop power brick to charge my laptop, mouse, headphones, power bank. Now if only Apple... least my power bank has Qi for both the phone and watch. As for BT and Windows. Never had issues here. Though most of my experience is using mice. Though a month I was in rehab after an operation I was using BT ear buds and had zero issues then as well. EDIT: Oh wait. Derp. The MX Anywhere 3 I just bought is USB-C. The dongle however is USB-A. But both my desktop and laptop have BT so I just use that.

  41. It's not flaky at all. Bluetooth Low Energy stack especially is rock solid and gives no issues. Logitech for some reason love their proprietary USB receivers. All their nice designer collection mice are also reserved for USB, while Bluetooth models are boring black. At 150 dollars it should have both. Lightspeed and Bluetooth. Also at 150 dollars it shoud charge over USB-C

  42. This sounds nice on paper but it's another cleaver marketing stunt to fend off the wolves, so to speak. It also calls out Apples own BS line about "everyone paying the same rate is fair". Or the "same rules apply to everyone". All just went out the window here, and just shows it was all fluff. This is also cleaver in that it's basically splitting the base in two, you give out some concessions to the little guys, so it makes you look good, while labeling the big devs as greedy.

  46. Microsoft unveils new Fluent icons for its Edge browser

I agree, while I appreciate the changes and creating a consistent design, this did not have to have the announcement. Imagine if the marketing team that created all those amazing graphics used in the article put their skills into actually creating a consistent design rather than hyping small changes, we could actually have a fully refreshed UI by now. Like what is the actual point of those marketing materials?! They look cool as heck, but who are they marketing to?! would of been nicer if they would of made their UI look like their marketing materials... actual glass and acrylic
