Absolutely ridiculous to say "do not buy" over a lack of fingerprint sensor. Especially over what will be a short-term problem. It's not much of an issue moving a mask out of the way anyway.5 points -

Ah, the name calling, very nice. Look, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. iPhones are great phones for most people. Android is a platform that has its pros, too. To come on and resort to name calling is more of an indication of your state of mind (android rage?); what does it matter to you what other people spend their money on? Why is it such a big deal to you? On to the subject of this article. It lacks objectivity. There are many other factors that could justify a do not buy rating, from a lack of a 120Hz display to the notch looking somewhat outdated at this point in time (despite the impressive tech it houses). Instead of rating the phone lower and justifying the do not buy rating, or citing other reasons, we end up with this steaming pile of incoherency. The fact of the matter is that for anyone besides the author, we've thought of this already and it won't be a surprise. What do you think people who live in cold climates do when they're wearing gloves? Guess there's no phone worth buying.3 points -

The thing about candy crush that made it popular was all the psycholoigcal things they did to get people addicted to it, the icons, the sounds, the colour palatte, etc. Same thing casinos do with slot machines. I have a neighbour who happens to have the volume turned up way too high and I can hear every time they're playing this game which is probably for about 50% of the time they're awake, it takes over some people's lives.3 points -

This review is a joke and should really be taken down or updated to be less contradictory. It's completely incoherent as it stands. The defining characteristic of a phone is not the unlock method for anyone but you. To say do not buy as a result of a worst case scenario of falling back to a PIN entry when you state elsewhere the device is near perfect... come on man. Who are you writing this review for, yourself or everyone else?? I think we all know the answer, so you might as well put it in appropriate words. "For me, it's a big enough deal to not buy the phone." Here, let's do a test one: Instead of saying "I don't like this article, do not read it." I could say, "For me, this article is an incoherent piece of trash. I won't be reading others by Rich Woods."3 points -

Whilst the hardware for this thing is great, the device overall is a massively wasted opportunity. What they should have done is released a device with all the classic Game & Watch games on the device, and maybe an update for one or two. Collectors (I'm one), just don't need yet another device that plays Mario 1 & 2, we've already got loads of them... We want the really old stuff LIKE Ball and so on. Stuff that we just can't get anywhere else.3 points -

The idea with cellular on ARM PCs is that it's integrated into the chipset so you're not paying a premium for it. But also, what do you mean by locked down? And what trend of locked down devices? The cost doesn’t seem to support that theory. They aren’t passing any savings to the consumer.2 points -

I wrote that iPhone 11 Pro review. The difference was that we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic. Face ID was fine at the time but the circumstances have changed. And so has IOS. If you head into Settings, Face ID and Passcode, click Set Up An Alternate Appearance, and do it with your mask. This is what I'm talking about. IOS requires some attention to the OS, not just doing selfies. Have you actually tried doing this? If you try to set up an alternate appearance with a mask on iOS says that your face is obstructed. If you've had any other results, let me know. https://osxdaily.com/2020/08/1...0obstructed%2C...%20More%20 Like I said, there are workarounds.2 points -

Well, if it's as short a term of a problem as you say, I'll update this review. However, assuming Apple goes back to its usual September schedule for iPhones next year, we're only about four months away from "just wait until the next iPhone" season. Except it's not a problem of the device. You don't buy a phone that clearly doesn't have X, then shave off 3 points of a review for not having something they never advertised. Out of all the reviews I've seen, I'm sad that this was the reason to not buy the Max... not the fact that maybe the cameras aren't leaps and bounds better than the other iPhone models, or the screen size being fairly large and maybe hard to navigate with one hand... nope, THIS was the reason. A problem that would by your standards exists going back as far as the iPhone X from 3 years ago and has nothing to do with this one being the "Pro Max" of today. Yea but we weren’t in a pandemic when the X came out. And we criticize devices all the time for not having features that the OEM never promises, because their competitors do have these features. Face ID worked a year ago. Now you have to type a PIN while you’re in public. Google didn’t have this problem this year because it had the sense to add a fingerprint sensor. And by all means, for anyone that’s ok with the compromise, go ahead and buy it. It’s fantastic. People seem more mad at the rating than anything else, but it’s a big deal if you’ve actually used the competition. The thing is, if you waited until we don’t have to wear masks anymore to buy this phone, my advice would probably be to wait until the iPhone 13 I have an Android phone that only has a fingerprint sensor. I have an iPhone that only has FaceID. Only having FaceID is not a big deal. It really isn't. If that's the biggest thing you can complain about then it seems like it's a pretty solid product. It is a solid product. I was pretty clear about that. But I'm not going to tell people to spend $1,200 on something that only had Face ID when Face ID doesn't work with a mask on. It's just as easy to wait for next year's iPhone. You seem to not understand that reviews are meant to be unbiased. People were asking for a review, not a recommendation on why or why not they should buy it. Interesting, because that's not what biased means. Biased would mean that I went into this review with a plan to favor it or not based on personal feelings. I did go and look up a bunch of other reviews after you said that though, and pretty much everyone gives it some level of "you should buy this if" or "don't buy this if". Seems more like people are mad that I said not to buy it, not mad that I said whether or not to at all. If you disagree, then by all means, buy it. If you think it's unfair to criticize the lack of a fingerprint sensor, the rest of the review praises the device, so again, go ahead and buy it.2 points -

People seem more mad at the rating than anything else Well, yeah. When you knock 3 points off just because it lacks a feature it never advertised to have, that's kinda whack man. That's... completely fine to do. Reviews are done in context of a market. If a consumer can get a device with more elsewhere, or if those options are more standard across the market, then it's entirely fair to knock points off a product that doesn't have that feature, whether they advertised it or not. Advertising should have nothing to do with reviews; we shouldn't let marketers determine how reviews are done. That said, I don't agree 3 whole points should be removed from the review score here. I know there's a pandemic, and it's an interesting (and brave ) move on Rich's part to call this out so strongly, but is the issue worth 30% of the score? To me, no. To Rich, yes. largely agree. It's rich's review, nobody is required to read it. He feels like it deserves a 7, get off his back. You're right, it's his review, nobody's required to read it... and nobody will continue doing so if the metric at which you grade by has no rules to it... But hey, it's his review. 7/10, do not read.1 point -

Windows 7 was my favourite windows. It just worked, it made sense to me, and I truly enjoyed it. Windows 10 is making me consider a mac. It's a bloody mess, breaks all the time. I'm not doing anything differently. That said, since the poll left a few out, I'll rate them based on many criteria (nostalgia, usability, function, excitement), as an overall, of only the versions I've extensively used:- 1: Windows 95 (My first true experience, it was amazing) 2: Windows 7 (The absolute best windows) 3: Windows XP (the longest lasting heavy hitter, with powerful memories) 4: Windows 98 (It worked) 5: Windows 10 (It's better than the ones lower than it, at least) 6: Windows 8.1 (Just better 8 ) 7: Windows 8 (I hated it) 8: Windows ME (I hated it a lot) 9: Windows Vista (I immensely hated it) 10: Windows 3.1 (Sure I used this a lot, but I was very young and didn't care about computers at that time)1 point -

Or you could buy a phone with a fingerprint sensor, which is literally any other premium phone. Or more importantly, just wait until next year’s iPhone when this is solved one way or the other Except my work provides me with this phone (XS Max) as I am on call and they won't provide any other types of phones (Our Communications Director is not a fan of Androids and our upgrade path is limited). I know people who have had iPhone 8s since they came out. Sure, I could carry a second one or even buy my own phone and adopt my company's security policy, but I really don't feel like having to pay for that and can just very well deal with it.1 point -

Interesting review decision. I’m lucky to be living in a country with competent leadership so I don’t need to wear a mask. So I don’t have a personal bias on how frustrating Face ID becomes while wearing one. Entering a pin is not hard though, and it alone being the reason to say not to buy it is ridiculous. Just lazy. Probably clickbait. Also, I imagine you’re not wearing a mask MOST of the time.1 point -

Netgear has been known to fluctuate in quality; not nearly as much as Linksys but still a fair amount. the R7000 and a few of their other AC routers were some of their higher quality time periods I always advise people to stay away from the ISP modem/router combo devices. they tend to be less stable, have not so good antennae, get less firmware/security updates, etc. Best to get a stand alone modem then have a separate router for WiFi and such.1 point
