Why do you post comments like this? The OS kinda matters and most people prefer Windows. ARM itself is niche hardware for the desktop. Source one can install and boot to Windows on ARM on an M1 Mac? As for Windows running natively on the machine, "that's really up to Microsoft," he said. "We have the core technologies for them to do that, to run their ARM version of Windows, which in turn of course supports x86 user mode applications. But that's a decision Microsoft has to make, to bring to license that technology for users to run on these Macs. But the Macs are certainly very capable of it." https://arstechnica.com/gadget...ts-mac-silicon-revolution/" rel="external nofollow">https://arstechnica.com/gadget...its-mac-silicon-revolution/ Thanks for confirming Windows on ARM does NOT run on the M1 Mac laptops. Not that it matters... I still have no interest in ARM anything.2 points -

Ah, the name calling, very nice. Look, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. iPhones are great phones for most people. Android is a platform that has its pros, too. To come on and resort to name calling is more of an indication of your state of mind (android rage?); what does it matter to you what other people spend their money on? Why is it such a big deal to you? On to the subject of this article. It lacks objectivity. There are many other factors that could justify a do not buy rating, from a lack of a 120Hz display to the notch looking somewhat outdated at this point in time (despite the impressive tech it houses). Instead of rating the phone lower and justifying the do not buy rating, or citing other reasons, we end up with this steaming pile of incoherency. The fact of the matter is that for anyone besides the author, we've thought of this already and it won't be a surprise. What do you think people who live in cold climates do when they're wearing gloves? Guess there's no phone worth buying.2 points -

The idea with cellular on ARM PCs is that it's integrated into the chipset so you're not paying a premium for it. But also, what do you mean by locked down? And what trend of locked down devices? The cost doesn’t seem to support that theory. They aren’t passing any savings to the consumer.2 points -

To do what? What are you trying to do exactly? Are you wanting to run it on your PC, what OS is that running? Any specific anything your trying to do, usb, passthru for nics? What OSes do you plan on running as VMs? There are a lot of choices out there for virtualization.. Without some idea of what your wanting to do exactly, and what your trying to do it on.. It is not possible to suggest what might best for you... What might be best for me and my use case, could be 180 out from what your looking to do. Its like asking whats the best car.. How do you want to use this car, what are your wants for the car? Good mpg? How many people does it need to hold? What budget? Will you be towing anything with it? Where will you be driving it? Do you want it to be flex fuel, or should it be a diesel? There is a huge difference between say a little 2 seat convertible sports car, and Escalade.. We have no idea what hardware your using, we have no idea what you want to run as vm. We have no idea what you want to do with VMs, etc.. There is no possible way to suggest anything. What if I said the best VM software since sliced bread is X.. But X only is type 1, and you want to run this VM software under your OS, etc. etc. Maybe VM isn't even the best option for what your wanting to do.. Maybe docker setup would be better? Maybe better option would be to get a raspberry pi do it on that vs leaving your PC up running VM 24/7?? You might as well have just asked people what their fav color is.. Because all your going to get in response to such a question is what they use for VM software, for their specific use case, and what hardware they have and what they are doing..1 point -

Based on the performance scores this thing is 50% more expensive than the samsung for a petty performance increase, at $1500 this thing is vastly more expensive than high performance x86 laptops and it offers nothing that they offer except cellular connectivity. This review is a joke and should really be taken down or updated to be less contradictory. It's completely incoherent as it stands. The defining characteristic of a phone is not the unlock method for anyone but you. To say do not buy as a result of a worst case scenario of falling back to a PIN entry when you state elsewhere the device is near perfect... come on man. Who are you writing this review for, yourself or everyone else?? I think we all know the answer, so you might as well put it in appropriate words. "For me, it's a big enough deal to not buy the phone." Here, let's do a test one: Instead of saying "I don't like this article, do not read it." I could say, "For me, this article is an incoherent piece of trash. I won't be reading others by Rich Woods."1 point -

If person feels uncomfortable reading words like ‘master’, ‘slave’, ‘whitelist’ and ‘blacklist’, then such person is a weak and irrational individual and must get psychological help. Some psychologically weak people, are like egoistic crying children, because they put additional strain on people who have to stay strong in order to handle difficult situations. There are a lot of people who can't afford to cry their entire life, because they feel responsibility to act like adults and handle panicking twats who get upset by minor problems. Finding and offering alternatives is not bad. Problem is that champagne commies, wokies and other self-righteousness "Nurse Ratched" types are forcing it on others i.e. creating dystopian future i.e. paving road to hell with good intentions.1 point -

Whilst the hardware for this thing is great, the device overall is a massively wasted opportunity. Yep, because writing a comment on a news article and attempting to change entire terminology for fear of offending someone are completely equal. Pointing out that something is stupid does not equate to "being triggered". There are only two comments on this page which boil down to simply "oH mY gOsH pEoPLe ArE tRiGgErEd" and neither one of them is directed at the people in the article 🙄.1 point -
IBM, Red Hat and others want inclusive language in software
Sin2x reacted to architect1337 for a topic
Apparently not. It seems to me that they are triggered purely by hearing a word. Master/slave perfectly describes the relationships of some equipment. It does not imply anything about the evils of human slavery. What amuses me is that these tend to (not always) be the same people who deride others for, for example, not liking people to swear around children. I will bring up that at my workplace we have started removing, specifically, the master/slave verbiage from our systems. And the directive is pretty simple to follow, and isn't one being provided out of a sense of being triggered - but eliminating ammunition for the issue to be raised at all. It's a lot easier to make a concerted effort, plan it and execute than to deal with a massive law suit or other similarly derailing event because some random person got ###### off at the word "slave" in your code and/or documentation. TLDR: This is removing an attack surface for the growing trend of political correctness across the globe. The problem lies in how sensitive society is becoming...it shouldn't even be an attack surface. Next, we will no longer have a black crayon, marker, or pen for fear it triggers someone. Just because concepts can be taken too far by idiots, doesn't make the original concept invalid. Dismissing everything with trigger or snowflake is being intellectually lazy. Concepts that some find too fluid or complex, like 'woke' are really not that hard. It simply means, don't be a dick. If you say something that you don't know is ###### to say, the person will tell you, and then you can go, whoops, not what I meant, and stop doing it. Just like when you learned not to call your grandma old cunty cunty. You found out not to do that, and probably had no intention of saying to hurt her feelings anyway. The crappy side of 'PC' is this is a term from the right to prescriptively label language and attitudes by the left that have never been accurate. Just because Rush started telling people that XYZ word would offend liberals, because it wasn't PC, doesn't mean he was right or even close to the truth. He was creating an evil straw man argument that had no purchase in leftist reality. PC as best gave racists and hateful people a code book to not appear like a dick. People on the left never had a 'PC' list of words or ideas or terms. They simply lived by the 'woke' concept of, DON'T BE A DICK. It really is just that simple. All language is about intent, not the words being used (unless you want to be a pedant about this point too). Saturday Night Live did a great sketch about 'Sexual Harassment Charlie' that shows it's not the words that matter, but who is saying them, and how they are said. Chasing down technical words that have potentially offensive connotations is really just a job creation exercise that no C-level exec is going to oppose. Who gets to decide the word is offensive? To whom?1 point -
