Why do you post comments like this? The OS kinda matters and most people prefer Windows. ARM itself is niche hardware for the desktop. Source one can install and boot to Windows on ARM on an M1 Mac? As for Windows running natively on the machine, "that's really up to Microsoft," he said. "We have the core technologies for them to do that, to run their ARM version of Windows, which in turn of course supports x86 user mode applications. But that's a decision Microsoft has to make, to bring to license that technology for users to run on these Macs. But the Macs are certainly very capable of it." https://arstechnica.com/gadget...ts-mac-silicon-revolution/" rel="external nofollow">https://arstechnica.com/gadget...its-mac-silicon-revolution/ Thanks for confirming Windows on ARM does NOT run on the M1 Mac laptops. Not that it matters... I still have no interest in ARM anything.2 points -

Ah, the name calling, very nice. Look, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. iPhones are great phones for most people. Android is a platform that has its pros, too. To come on and resort to name calling is more of an indication of your state of mind (android rage?); what does it matter to you what other people spend their money on? Why is it such a big deal to you? On to the subject of this article. It lacks objectivity. There are many other factors that could justify a do not buy rating, from a lack of a 120Hz display to the notch looking somewhat outdated at this point in time (despite the impressive tech it houses). Instead of rating the phone lower and justifying the do not buy rating, or citing other reasons, we end up with this steaming pile of incoherency. The fact of the matter is that for anyone besides the author, we've thought of this already and it won't be a surprise. What do you think people who live in cold climates do when they're wearing gloves? Guess there's no phone worth buying.2 points -

The idea with cellular on ARM PCs is that it's integrated into the chipset so you're not paying a premium for it. But also, what do you mean by locked down? And what trend of locked down devices? The cost doesn’t seem to support that theory. They aren’t passing any savings to the consumer.2 points -

Whilst the hardware for this thing is great, the device overall is a massively wasted opportunity. What they should have done is released a device with all the classic Game & Watch games on the device, and maybe an update for one or two. Teams is not overly complex. It does things the same way as any other chat system like fb or discord. Heck it's so easy to do a video or audio call. You create a group or join a text and hit the call or video button and everyone is called instantly. We had a pharmacist accidentally hit the video button in her chat window. Within 5 seconds, 5 pharmacists already were in the video call. Luckily we canceled the call before the remaining 11 pharmacists joined,1 point -

A lot of words have histories, contexts, and etymologies that most people understand very little about, even while invoking the negative connotation with their repeated use. These meanings in the context someone may see as indifferent or innocuous are often far more divisive than people realize. Just become a large chunk of people are ignorant to this information doesn't make their usage meaningless to others better educated or affected by the words origin or propagation of negative ideas. It is easy to argue we should always lean towards 'descriptive' instead of 'prescriptive' with regard to meaning and usage of words; however, there are exceptions that carry on inherent prescriptive biases. Simply, ignorance is just not an excuse for you or anyone to claim what is irrelevant and what is divisive. (Also regarding other posts, this isn't about 'triggered' or 'snowflakes' - it is about education so that people can choose to continue to use or not use words that carry additional weight that they might not have previously understood or known about.) I get the anti-PC flinch, but things are often a lot more complex and when you dip into these concepts, you are more than likely to agree with adjusting terminology. In societal linguistic studies, languages that have strong male and female versions assigned to words can affect generations of thinking and attitudes toward sexes when they are not adjusted or compensated for. If 'kitchen' or 'cookware' in your language always uses the 'feminine' form of the word, this creates sub-associations to cooking and kitchen work to the female sex that if examined, you might not agree. I urge everyone to explore why people care or why it matters. It is complicated and important, and as you dig into other areas of language that have racist or subjugative connotations, they get sinister and are hard to ignore. I'm not reading all that lol. But I think I got the gist of it, and I 100% disagree. I work a lot with kids aged about 4-13, and the number of times I've heard them deem each other "racist" for even mentioning color is absolutely appalling. One of them describes the kid who hit him as "the white/black kid in the blue hoodie"? "THAT'S RACIST!!!!" And such. People are absolutely being raised much more sensitively. And that's not always a bad thing. It doesn't hurt to be aware of things. But it's also very possible to go overboard, and these changes in the article are definitely overboard. Let me give an example: I'm a Christian. Obviously the cross tends to be a nearly sacred symbol in Christianity (for better or worse). What if I were to call for the word "cross" to stop being used, since it was [allegedly, for those who I know will fuss ] used to kill Jesus and that "triggers" me, for lack of a better word? "Crossing" someone in basketball. "Cross"-platform. etc. Would you go along with that? Why or why not? I would certainly hope you wouldn't, because I would be completely ignoring the fact that the way the word is used has absolutely nothing to do with the cross as associated with Christianity. And if all of that sounds ridiculous to you, then why doesn't the stuff in the article? Is it simply because you have, through general culture, been conditioned to accept that yes, these words are bad? Another example. I'm white. What if I were offended by people buying "crackers" at the store and called for them to be renamed? "Wafers" or something. Would you go along with that?1 point -

Apparently not. It seems to me that they are triggered purely by hearing a word. Master/slave perfectly describes the relationships of some equipment. It does not imply anything about the evils of human slavery. What amuses me is that these tend to (not always) be the same people who deride others for, for example, not liking people to swear around children. I will bring up that at my workplace we have started removing, specifically, the master/slave verbiage from our systems. And the directive is pretty simple to follow, and isn't one being provided out of a sense of being triggered - but eliminating ammunition for the issue to be raised at all. It's a lot easier to make a concerted effort, plan it and execute than to deal with a massive law suit or other similarly derailing event because some random person got ###### off at the word "slave" in your code and/or documentation. TLDR: This is removing an attack surface for the growing trend of political correctness across the globe. The problem lies in how sensitive society is becoming...it shouldn't even be an attack surface. Next, we will no longer have a black crayon, marker, or pen for fear it triggers someone. Just because concepts can be taken too far by idiots, doesn't make the original concept invalid. Dismissing everything with trigger or snowflake is being intellectually lazy. Concepts that some find too fluid or complex, like 'woke' are really not that hard. It simply means, don't be a dick. If you say something that you don't know is ###### to say, the person will tell you, and then you can go, whoops, not what I meant, and stop doing it. Just like when you learned not to call your grandma old cunty cunty. You found out not to do that, and probably had no intention of saying to hurt her feelings anyway. The crappy side of 'PC' is this is a term from the right to prescriptively label language and attitudes by the left that have never been accurate. Just because Rush started telling people that XYZ word would offend liberals, because it wasn't PC, doesn't mean he was right or even close to the truth. He was creating an evil straw man argument that had no purchase in leftist reality. PC as best gave racists and hateful people a code book to not appear like a dick. People on the left never had a 'PC' list of words or ideas or terms. They simply lived by the 'woke' concept of, DON'T BE A DICK. It really is just that simple. All language is about intent, not the words being used (unless you want to be a pedant about this point too). Saturday Night Live did a great sketch about 'Sexual Harassment Charlie' that shows it's not the words that matter, but who is saying them, and how they are said. Chasing down technical words that have potentially offensive connotations is really just a job creation exercise that no C-level exec is going to oppose. Who gets to decide the word is offensive? To whom?1 point -
