Nice console and digital games you have, shame if something were to happen to them... ssssss... "Don't buy a Playstation 5", would have been a better title. Considering Neowin said this about an iPhone, because it didn't have one tiny relatively insignificant feature. Sony is saying, "We can take away all your games whenever we want, and look, we aren't bluffing".3 points -

"They said the government should give people the right to repair electronic products in law which would require producers to supply repair manuals, affordable spare parts for products, and for products to be designed so that repair is not prevented through limited access to physical or software tools; " Really interested to see how this plays out around the world with apple. Would be great if they're no longer allowed to sell their devices in half of the world. Not like they make any tax contributions so of no loss to the economy.3 points -

Microsoft is once again reportedly bringing Android apps to Windows
neo158 and one other reacted to The Werewolf for a topic
Actually, the insider story is that MSFT killed those off mainly because someone said "Wait... if we make it possible to just bring iOS and Android apps to Windows - who's going to write UWP apps?" Remember back then, Sinofsky et al were betting the farm on UWP and WinRT to replace Win32 and .Net - the original versions of UWP and WinRT didn't even support .Net - that got grafted in a few months before the rollout. Today things are different. Win32 isn't going away. Neither is .Net. WinRT is being blended into Win32 and .Net is how most people write UWP apps. Microsoft gave up on the mobile market. So bringing Android to the party can't hurt anything - but combining it with a Microsoft specific version of Android (see Surface Duo) and voila - instant mobile ecosystem... which Microsoft just doesn't have right now and needs.2 points -

quikmantx and one other reacted to The Werewolf for a topic
I've long said that this is what would make a tablet first system like Win 10 X work. And since MSFT has left the mobile market - it needs this to give it a foothold in the one market they have otherwise abandoned. Even if they limit it exclusively to Windows 10 ARM systems like the Surface Pro X and a future Surface Go X, would make them a viable competition to Chromebooks and even Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7. With the Duo, MSFT has the phone OS (MSFT's version of Android tightly integrated with Windows) - so clearly they're not afraid of Android. Just do a Samsung already.2 points -

This should help explain the issue ... https://www.bigmessowires.com/2019/05/19/explaining-4k-60hz-video-through-usb-c-hub/ If the dock uses USB3, it's not possible to have 4K60 on the displayport link, only 4K30. You need a dock which only uses USB2, which may impact other things like Ethernet if supported by the dock. Some options for 4K60 are in the link.1 point -

Because you need to hold the tablet. The iPad air, Pro, and even the Surface X say otherwise. on devices that little to no bezels, you have to change how you hold the device. Like when i used the Samsung Galaxy S8, S9, S10+ and S20, I couldn't wrap my fingers around it because I could accidentally touch the screen. i notice iPad users modify their behavior to grip their ipads along the top and the bottom edges because those are thick bezels. along the sides, they tend to straight finger their hands or have a slight curve to them. even on my Surface Pro 7, I try not to curl my hands around the machine because of accidentally touching the screen. People that want bezel free tend to be those that don't have touchscreens like a lot of laptop users. When someone carries an open laptop, they often have one hand underneath the base and the other hand wrapped around the screen with the thumb on the screen which is a no-no on a touchscreen because you'll move the mouse cursor or accidentally drag something. I go to demo a new newpaper ad layout to my boss on my surface pro 7 and when she grabs the machine from my hands, she accidentally moves some text boxes around because she's touching the screen.* And you have to rely on palm rejection (aka software) to fix a bad hardware design. No. Palm rejection is just more versatile. Emulate bezels in tablet mode, and take advantage of larger screen real estate in laptop mode. that would mean there are parts of the screen that is off-limits for touch. and it would mean that the swipe in from the sides wouldn't work or people would complain how far you have to swipe in or user behavior would be inconsistent (though I would like the option to disable the swipe in like when my nieces are using a drawing app, they always accidentally swipe the bezel area causing the app to switch to a different app or the desktop.1 point -

Neowin reported on Bitcoin when it hit 15,000 and now it has taken a sharp downturn there is another report. Sorry, that is how news sites work. I still don't see Bitcoin being a real currency except outside of maybe failed economies. It's not stable and it's simply really not accepted anywhere especially at physical locations (US). Add it has a higher barrier of entry and requires significant technical knowledge to use. Hell, to really securely store it one has to do it themselves. Bitcoin is being driven mostly by people looking to make money speculating on it. What happens when that dies up? Good luck... We may be using a crypto/digital based money in the future but it will probably be government backed. BTC is only used for drug trafficking, fraud, money laundering and speculative trading. Big number gets clicks, but it's likely less volatile in actual use. As crime organizations self regulate. In the market I watch seemingly stolen CC have always traded around 1btc/20k in CC transactions. The value in use was determined long ago, the value in retail is obviosuly much more volatile so people can play with it to turn a profit. In use it's rarely cashed out. This is complete nonsense. A bunch of people I knew that mined it back in the day used it for buying pizzas and take aways a lot, quite a few (america) take aways started accepting it. That's like saying just because the HSBC bank is corrupt to the core in money laundering that bank notes are only used for money laundering, and do you know why we don't say that? Because that's so silly and makes no sense.1 point -

Save $300 off Razer Blade 15 Advanced and Blade 17 Pro gaming laptops
FunkyMike reacted to Mobius Enigma for a topic
Not to mention fan noise, from what I've seen in complaints. I have an ASUS ROG actually which can get pretty obnoxious as well. Thinking about trading it in for something else honestly because gaming on a laptop is just... not really something I enjoy at all. Just to add to what you are saying. Fan and thermals are so important, but there are few models out there that do well, and even the ones that don't - most can be wrangled to work as expected with a bit of undervolt or even repasting and ensuring intake is good. But this is beyond what should be necessary, and too many models are shoved out with little revision or longevity concerns for MFRs. They treat them like disposable devices with a 1 year cycle, and when buying products in this category, we should probably keep this in mind as well. In the past few months, I have seen 15" devices, that on paper look really similar, and physically look pretty close to each other. However, some have whisper quiet fans with better air flow and good thermals, and there are some that sound like a jet and feel like a jet heating up and perform like ######. Even in a brand or model, there are sometimes major quality control issues - especially with gaming notebooks, where metrics need to be really tight to pull of the trick they do. An average thermal plate warp would be fine on a business device, but is the difference between 60c and 100c on a gaming/performance device hitting loads. Same with paste - which often goes through hell in shipping and based on design, frame flexing, hot/cold, etc. Side Note - Sony and Microsoft tuning their PCBs for the new consoles, and Sony also doing liquid metal are important. They are both essentially mobile class SoC technologies, and it shows with the watts consumed and how quiet they are. Sony needs to update their fan profile and offer more cooling at times, but at least it doesn't scare animals. If someone needs to be mobile, but aren't going to using the notebook in places like an airport or coffee shop, there are sometimes better solutions, like a mini-ITX with a portable display that works great in an overnight case and is a desktop in your hotel or when visiting people. Desktop class notebooks are also a consideration, but far more limited and as heavy as an ITX build/design. There are also light gaming notebooks, and these should be a bit more palettable, as users aren't expecting 2070 or 2080 gaming speeds, and lowering settings and and it being 60fps playable is all the need. In 2020, the AMD and Intel Xe integrated GPU solutions provide this access to gaming. Most of the newest games play just fine, but not with all the bells and whistles. These devices also don't have the thermal fights or requirements and work better on the go for quick gaming than a mid/high end gaming notebook.1 point -

Thankfully, there are options as even Microsoft is obviously aware that not everyone wants a dinky keyboard, hence the Surface Book and Surface Laptop. a 2 in 1 is not the same. it's a heavy bastard mess of a thing which is what apple incorrectly called the surface: a toaster fridge. the surface pro is not a toaster fridge and is thin, light, and usable. the dell 2 in 1 (or any of the other) is none of those things. it's a laptop with a bendy screen. no thanks. i had an HP envy x360. returned it.
