  1. Royal Society calls for lower streaming quality to cut emissions

Does Debbie Downer from the Royal Society also advocate children going hungry with no free school meals? Maybe they should invest their energy elsewhere, like supporting advanced data compression tech. I am sure SD was far more harmful for the environment 20 years ago than HD is today.

  3. Twitter updates its policies to prohibit racism

I wonder how they are going to define 'hate' speech. Who gets to decide what is 'hate' and what is not? For example: There are too many [national origin/race/ethnicity] maggots in our country and they need to leave. There are too many [national origin/race/ethnicity] in our country and they need to leave. Would one sentence we banned and the other allowed because it doesn't have the word 'maggot' in it? Is one hate speech and the other an opinion? Are they both hate speech? Who gets to decide, because I bet, to one person, they are both racist, and to another, neither are.

Yeah I'll believe it when I see them enforce it evenly. I suspect if a blue check mark, you know the most racist people on twitter, used the exact 4 examples they give, but insert "white" into every one they wouldn't get banned.

The real interesting test will be saying something that is true, based on the facts as supported by evidence, but not "hateful". For example, stating the fact that "all religions are ignorant superstitious nonsense and that there's never been any verifiable evidence of anything supernatural ever". I wonder if Twitter would ban that?

  7. Facebook will now start removing conspiracy theories about COVID-19 vaccines

instead of politicians, we should start the vaccine trials on Facebook & Twitter employees. Same principle applies, if they survive, its safe, if they die, we're safer.

  8. Royal Society calls for lower streaming quality to cut emissions

I can get behind the keeping mobile devices for longer, I kept my last mobile for over 4 years and plan to do similar with the one I've now had for 2 years. I do think its bad planned obsolescence is a thing with mobile devices, especially Android devices. However at least you can flash custom roms and stay up to date, but people shouldn't have to do that. In regards to the streaming comment I can't help but think turning the screen brightness down on the device your watching would have a more meaningful impact.

No sugar bear. That's a place for free speech. Where you can say what you want and you put on your big boy pants without depending on some soy white CEO to defend you like your mommy. Besides, there's no racism on the 1398 accounts I follow. Unless you think being an American is racism, which wouldn't surprise me. Oooh this post brings out thee worst in humanity.

HAHAHA About Cyberpunk 2020 (the role game) : "Taking place in the second decade of the 21st century (2013 - 2020), after a wide-spread social-economical collapse and a period of martial law, the United States government gave a veritable carte blanche - even the elimination of anti-trust laws - to several large corporations in a desperate attempt at economic recovery" https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/..._n_5fc7d3e6c5b6f3fe59724a45 ^^^^ Micheal Flinn is talking about Martial Law in 2020.

  15. Cave Story+ is free on the Epic Games Store this week

I have to say it is one of THE BEST Metroidvania platformer adventure ever. I played it around 2008 (free original download) and then again 2012 for the story+ Truly a gem of a game, and if you never played it - give it a go. Truly inspiring - considered it was done by 1 person.

  16. The M1 Macbook Air is cheaper, has better battery life, and performs much better. There are even hacks to run Windows on Arm in a VM, and it still outperforms these leaked numbers. Why would you even buy a Microsoft Surface Laptop 4?

  18. To me this says, Qualcomm isn't trying hard enough and their focus isn't on making something competitive with Apple. Their focus is on mobile SOC's for Android devices. ARM on Windows isn't an appealing platform (who wants/needs it), as Intel/AMD dominate the Windows PC market.

  22. Possible Surface Laptop 4 and Surface Pro 8 benchmarks spotted

After the MacBook M1 benchmarks these things aren't even a viable option anymore. Are they? Windows, sure for certain things, but that'll be fixed in a few more months whether Microsoft likes it not and you'll be able to dual boot.

  23. Possible Surface Laptop 4 and Surface Pro 8 benchmarks spotted

Anyone interested in using Windows (on ARM) as their main OS doesn't want to run it on a laptop that you not only have to use a hacked, unsupported solution but also in an VM. Good grief... The M1 chipset is nice so let me know know when Apple is willing to license it to other OEMs that make better laptops.

  26. Twitter updates its policies to prohibit racism

Those poor little racists, fascists, and fools. Oh look found 2 people that should be banned from twitter already. "Racists, fascists, and fools" Pot, meet kettle. Aw, aren't you a brittle petal. I don't think calling someone an unhappy Maga incel will get me thrown off Twitter but thanks for proving my original point. 🤣 What point? Clearly you don't understand that making blanket statements and insinuations about a group of people is incredibly racist in itself... Use facts next time unless you want to be called out... There's a point where calling a racist, a racist, isn't being racist, it's a fact. Yes, if it's supported by facts. On the contrary, pulling the race card for no reason and making a blanket statement, causes arguably more damage. Those wrongful accusations have diminished the seriousness of the term, and it artificially inflates the problem. That's absolutely not okay... There's a huge difference between actions that are truly racist, and being called a racist just because the other person has no capacity for a discussion. This thread is a prime example of the latter...

I've been waiting to replace my Surface Book with something. SB3 was underwhelming. Was hoping the Laptop 4 would come to play but yeah I think you're right. Once Parallels can deal with Windows on M1 I think I'm going that route.

  32. MS needs to work with ARM to get DX12 support natively in Mali - currently that's the only thing holding back Mediatek, Exynos, Rockchip, etc. from supporting Windows 10, and MS is making a big mistake depending only on Qualcomm and high-end devices for their ARM success. If they can work with OEMs to ship affordable $200-400 devices (mini PCs, netbooks, tablets), maybe offer a 180 days free Office, and make Windows ARM freely installable image- this could help gain a lot of momentum, from both customers & developers. But knowing MS, it's obvious they're too blind to do this, and too enthusiastic about delivering too little at too high prices and disappointing the public, and then abandoning the project 3 years down the line crying 'we did everything right, we don't know what went wrong'.

  45. Royal Society calls for lower streaming quality to cut emissions

Reducing datacentre energy consumption is a noble idea, but the best way to reduce overheads would be to continue investing in development of codecs with better compression efficiency, and through the development of custom accelerators that can send and encode video with lower energy consumption than CPU cores and GPUs.
