Wait, do you realize you are recommending a CPU that is significantly slower? On single core/thread it is 25% slower, and in multi-threading (all cores) it is over 25% slower. This will affect EVERYTHING from gaming to productivity. The GPU speed difference is tiny, and in non-gaming, the Intel GPU is faster for video encoding/decoding, etc. Intel or not, don't recommend something slow. A good performance reference site is PassMark - CPUBenchmark and VideoCardBenchmark - the CPU Single Thread Rating results are representative of gaming and engineering level performance, and the Average CPU Mark shows all core and maximum core utilization for high thread count productivity software like Blender.2 points -

Nor Teams nor Google are that straight forward gui for non-tech participants. My market is mainly non-tech customers, I'm not going to hassle with software and cause the client lose focus if what I really care is for he/she to listen to what I say and buy my services.2 points -

"starring Sony's PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's Xbox Series X|S. While each console has slightly different strengths and weaknesses, both brought very similar innovations, including being some of the first pieces of hardware to pack RDNA2-based GPUs" PS5, sure, but you might want to at least fact check the reasons you give. 1) The PS5's GPU does NOT have full RDNA2 hardware. See AMD. See Microsoft. The Xbox Series S/X developer tools didn't turn on RDNA2 until a couple of months ago, where Sony's development toolkit was fully optimized for the RDNA1 + Ray Tracing added to the shader pipeline. It is not RDNA2. Microsoft, just like AMD, doesn't even have a fully optimized driver path or development framework for the Xbox series graphics. Sony does, you know why? Sony's hardware is only RDNA1 + their ray tracing implementation. This is why, that PS5, being 25% slower than the Xbox series X, with the current development tools, is about the same speed as the Xbox series X in some games, as they are not optimized for RDNA2 or even using those technologies. The Microsoft and AMD GPU drivers are still not even optimized for RDNA2. The AMD 6xxx GPUs will get faster as the drivers are optimized, and developers actually implement the newer technologies without a semi emulation layer that is optimized for Nvidia RTX hardware. (Now NVidia may keep the lead, as their hardware as specific ML processing, where AMD is doing the ML/Ai work in the existing shader pipeline.) Sony opted for faster uptick of development for current generation gaming, as things from the existing PC and console generations, translate easily to the PS5 RDNA, but is significantly limited in features & technologies that come from RDNA2 hardware. Sony cannot have RDNA2 hardware, as Microsoft helped AMD develop it, and Sony's silicon was finalized long before the RDNA2 silicon and features were implemented. 2) 3D Audio - The Xbox Series has MORE 3D audio technologies than the PS5, with the new 3D spatial hardware and engine, and it also outputs and translates to non-proprietary technologies like DTS and Dolby Atmos - specifically things the PS5 does not do because it is using a Sony only audio output format, that is effectively worthless right now. The tempest engine is interesting, but offers NOTHING that is not in the Xbox - as it does full 360 degree output, supporting up to like 64-128 speaker locations. 3D space is 3D space, there is no additional direction that the tempest is offering. Let me be clear here, as binaural in ear 3D audio is NOT NEW, and is fully supported on the Xbox Series. Except, the Xbox can output and reproduce it on SPEAKERS - something the PS5 CANNOT DO, as the 3D audio does not support speakers the PS5. Users expecting a speaker based 3D audio experience, will not currently get it with the PS5. The PS5's 3D audio is currently only Headphone only and limited to Sony's implementation, where the Xbox series supports DTS, Atmos, speakers and headphones, and can map to the user's ear shape, something that may be coming to the PS5 for headphone. ------ The PS5 is a great console, and has some good strengths, but it has no feature that is above the Xbox Series or PC technologies, and it also is not as full featured or as fast. Picking features that some bad tech reviews promoted as being PS5 'only' and saying these are the reason to buy a PS5 is just not accurate. Instead, talk about the dual shock (as you have) VR experiences, the UI and in game UI features that are unique, etc. (It is ok to prefer the PS5, but don't give people bad information to justify why.)2 points -

Vindicta reacted to jnelsoninjax for a topic
OK, first off, how is the monitor connected to the laptop? (HDMI, Display port, etc) second, you said that you have integrated graphics as well as a GTX 1660. Have you checked that the Nvidia drivers are current, version 460.89 is the most current. Also I would attempt to disable the integrated graphics or the Nvidia, and see if the display comes back. I found this website that talks about the error 43, and how to potentially fix it. Also check AMD and see if your drivers are up to date, as that can cause issues as well. Third, check and see if there a specific driver for the external monitor, sometimes that can fix issues as well. As a last result, download and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and let it clean the system of all display drivers, and then reinstall them.1 point -

I can think of three reasons why: 1: It's their pride that gets in their way. 2: They truly think that they are the best. 3: Cult thinking doesn't like change. Or they are decent phones that people like for certain features the competition doesn’t have or because they are used to/like the interface/device. While others prefer another phone brand with features that it has the competition doesn’t offer or because they are used to/like the interface/device. I don’t get this tribal mentality in tech where if you prefer/buy something that some other people might not personally like then a group of them will brand you a prideful cultist. Like just use whatever you like for the purposes you want and accept other people will do the same for themselves.1 point -

dead.cell reacted to indospot for a topic
Yeah I thought the reasons were a bit odd... plus it was also about “new experiences” but no mention of Microsoft buying Zenimax. That’s a whole boat load of new experiences coming Microsoft’s way and not on PS. Mobius - Thank you for the information, though parts of your comment paint the wrong picture of what I said. I didn't use RDNA2 as a distinctive feature of either console, but the PlayStation 5 is still using technology based on RDNA 2, whether it may or not be taking advantage of all the improvements of that architecture. The graphics weren't meant to be a point of comparison between the two consoles. You also suggest that I mention the DualSense controller as the distinctive feature, which, like you said, I already do. But to be clearer, I say the PlayStation 5 takes the win "mostly" because of the controller, so I am giving credit where you want me to. I will admit I don't know the full extent of Sony's 3D audio capabilities and how their marketing translates to real-life features, so I believe you when you say I'm wrong about that. I stand by my choice, though, because the controller was always my biggest focus. Finally, I appreciate your tolerance for different opinions, but this article isn't a reflection of my personal preference in terms of what I would want to own. I would much sooner get an Xbox than a PlayStation, for what that's worth, though if you've followed us for a while, you'll know I'm really a Nintendo guy. ZipZapRap - "New experiences" doesn't include experiences that already existed now being exclusive to a specific product. ZeniMax already made games, and to add to that, most of them were already on Xbox, too. The only new thing is the potential for them to not appear on future PlayStation hardware.1 point -

I will politely disagree with you on the X1 Fold and the LG wing. These crazy form factors may be just a year or so old but foldable phones and multi screen devices are going to be the future (whether you are on board this trend or not). In that sense, both products are revolutionary. In case of Lenovo, it has brought the ideology of foldable design to the PC world and executed it well (although not perfect). Foldable devices exist, but this is the best one yet that makes people sit up and take notice. This is actually similar to what Apple has done with its silicon. ARM PCs exist, but this is the best one yet that makes people sit up and take notice. LG, OTOH, has turned the concept of multi screen devices on its head (pun intended) in genuinely useful ways. True multitasking on mobile phones is still wonky at best. We need 2 screens to give equal attention to 2 apps simultaneously and tasks involving the use of 1 primary app and 1 secondary app simultaneously is a compromise to both app experiences (see split screen, floating windows, chat heads, actions on the notification shade). This device is a solution for that problem. Additionally, holding the phone in landscape mode with a single hand isn't ergonomic. Even though people want larger screens, they prefer to hold something small and easy in their hands (See the prevalence of vertical videos, kickstands, pop sockets that rotate phones, gimbals and selfie sticks). This phone definitely isn't perfect but is a revolutionary step in the right direction.1 point -

This tweak places a context menu option to open a command prompt as Administrator (assuming you already have this permission with your account). It places it in several places so that you can even right click anywhere in Explorer in a folder and the option also appears, also with right clicking a folder in Explorer. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\runas] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\runas] @="Command Prompt here" "HasLUAShield"="" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\runas\command] @="cmd.exe /s /k pushd \"%V\"" [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\runas] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\runas] @="Command Prompt here" "HasLUAShield"="" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\runas\command] @="cmd.exe /s /k pushd \"%V\"" [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\runas] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\runas] @="Command Prompt here" "HasLUAShield"="" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\runas\command] @="cmd.exe /s /k pushd \"%V\"" Copy the above into a new file called admin_prompt_here.reg and merge it into the registry. Microsoft promises three years of feature updates for the Surface Duo
alex_d2w reacted to samw61 for a topic
Rich's comments in the article stand. There are only 10 releases of Windows 10 to the public. Only 1511 is no longer supported. Windows 7 needs ESU, and Windows 8.1 gets updates. You can argue that Windows 8 is included in your math.. but that's separate from 10. 20H2 is in development and doesn't count. Nonsense, there are 10 current versions of windows 10: 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703, 1709, 1803, 1809, 1903, 1909, 2004. This is not the same at all as a service pack like windows 95-8.1 had, this is like windows 98 and windows 98 SE - entitely separate. To go from 1507 to 1511 or any other build you need to download an update file which upgrades the whole windows 10 system and puts the old system in C:\windows.old - it is completely separate. Yes it migrates your settings or files (if it doesn't just decide to delete them becuase why not) but it is not just a small update, and builds 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703, 1709, 1803 and 1809 have NO support for non-enterprise or paying business users. So no, you are completely wrong. The only one receiving no updates at all is 1511. The following builds are still receiving updates on non-enterprise versions: 1607 - Certain devices running Intel Clovertrail have updates until 2023 1703 - Surface hub (Though likely to be business oriented, it's still the non-enterprise version). 1809 - Support was extended until November 2020 1903/1909 2004 1507, 1607 and 1809 are LTSB/C. 1709 Enterprise support was extended until November 2020 1803 Enteprise support until November 2020 So yes, out of the 10 versions of Windows 10 released to date. Only 1 is unsupported all togther. I'm talking about non-business users, so LTSB is excluded, surface hub is excluded, this isn't just a 'business only' device, it's a device any consumer can purchase, and as a result the updates offers to comsumer level devices are what matter, just like I don't care what support IBM offers to it's #1 customer paying billions of dollars a year for licensing if I'm just buying a single item from them, clealy I'm not going to get anywhere near the same level of support. Rich's comments in the article stand. "This company supports nine out of the 10 versions of Windows 10 still" No mention of consumer specific support, literally just support. Of which 1 of the 10 versions of Windows 10 is currently out of support. Which, regardless of the way you look at it, leaves a device like this with a good chance that it will be supported, even if it's not Windows, and especially if it's aimed at a business market.1 point -

Y? Only Apple is the cool kid as far as updates are concerned That's exactly why. Beautiful device, but way overpriced. I don't understand how tech companies calculate and justify the price of dual screen devices. Sounds like this: "Hey, our device has 2 screens instead of 1! So let's double to price of a device which has similar specs!!" Technology-wise, it's only the screen that is doubled, not all the rest... Also, at $1400, they could at least have added a high-end camera.1 point
