What boggles my mind are the sites that STILL think people want auto play videos. Do they really think people say "WOW, an video that started playing all by itself as I was trying to read the article on the page, it really helped me get engaged in the article." for me personally, it makes me want to never return to their site!4 points -

If you aren't catfished into clicking on BS headlines that claim something and then end up being nothing more than clickbait with nothing of what is claimed in the headline (like for example "Air date for Strange New Worlds" and then it ends up claiming "sometime in 2021" those sort of articles). I immediately block these sites from Google News, which is mainly where it happens for me. Here are some annoyances in no particular order Random captchas showing up on sites I visit every week (like for example my local supermarket order online) without VPN, why then? North American sites denying entry for visitors from the EU (seriously F*** YOU!) GDPR cookie banner annoyance Yes I do have an extension to bypass GDPR cookie warnings, but while it works in 80% of the time, it creates an additional annoyance on sites it doesn't work on by disabling the page altogether until I disable it manually for that site and reload the page/accept the cookies. Honestly, people couldn't be more annoying if they tried with just these examples.2 points -

"Also, the phone's box comes without a charger, but you can buy a bundle that includes that charger at no additional cost." Yeah, but at least for now you can get it for free. This makes more sense as an environmental effort, you can reduce how much space your box takes if you don't need it, but the charger is free if you do. We still have to see how it works in other countries, though. That seems like an enlightened direction to take: just add an option during checkout that says "I don't need another charger" so people can pick what they want.2 points -

Autoplay videos with sound....they can burn in the fiery pits of hell. Nothing infuriates me like having 5/8/77 cranked loud and one of these damn autoplays come up...usually a few decibels above my music. Mostly happens on news sites (CNN, ABC, Fox, etc.) ... like I can't read the damn article I clicked on. It must also have the video segment. /sigh2 points -

Mafia: Definitive Edition (2020) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) are the only games I played in 2020 worth mentioning (and most importantly ill likely be replaying those from time-to-time which is where games are ultimately made or broke as time passes). for the record... I still like Mafia (2002) more than the 2020 update as, like I have said before, Mafia (2002) is my #1 video game experience to date and even to this very day (at least as of my last replay in Aug 2018) it's my #1 video game experience. I have not played DOOM: Eternal (or even the previous game yet etc) but I suspect I might like it as I liked DooM back-in-the-day along with DooM 3 (2004) as come to think of it, DooM 3 was one of the last (and few) times I was WOWed by graphics. but... that was when the alpha demo leaked in I think it was Nov 2002 as by the time the actual game came out in 2004, while it's graphics where still on the high end, it was not as WOW level by that point as other games closed the gap some. p.s. I can't believe GTA5 is still selling THAT much. do people think the general single player story mission on that is that great? ; because I think other games easily top GTA5 (like Mafia series/RDR series) as GTA series characters etc in general are decent, as the games are good enough to finish once, but have no lasting impact on me like the Mafia games etc do as the Mafia series tends to have a much stronger impact on me emotionally which is why I classify Mafia (2002) (on PC) as a masterpiece (a word I rarely use). the 2nd game, which is pretty much my #2 gaming experience to date, did not quite capture the magic of the first one but it was not too far from it.2 points -

You forget that Apple laptops are the most expensive and have the worst OS ever, i.e. macOS. A small malady kills the whole OS, there are not many apps for it (compared to Linux and Windows,) and it is only made for the U.S. market with little care for other international users. I mean sure, the laptops themselves are nothing short of dazzling, but that's it.2 points -

I have used an ultra wide both at work and at home for years so I imagine it will work fine. Just feels like a lot for a single monitor. Oh is it the Festivus airing of the grievances. I got two annoyances of current era web. 1. Ensnaring you in site engagement. e.g. The time bomb scripts that throw registration popups or some other form of lure. Also the infinite scroll can burn in hell. 2. Excessively stuffing their data metrics. In other words filling every page with frames to load many social media posts as possible or autoplaying random videos forever. I want to click a link, have it load quickly, view a discrete unit of content, and be done with it. It's annoying knowing every page will be resource eating lag fest. JavaScript can do neat things but the way it's used is exactly like casinos that want to make sure you enter, never leave, and spend as much money (in the case of the internet, attention) as possible. Then have you keep coming back and repeating thatcycle. More over this narrative that unused PC resources are wasted is a thinly veiled excuse for poor coding and/or excessive JavaScript bloat. If they want to use so much compute power that's fine but make better use of it. My PC is not your personal ad money printing machine.1 point -

I'll take a look at the 27" monitors, I just wasn't sure if the pixel density will be comparable to a Retina display (obviously the larger the screen area, the less dense the pixels even if it's a higher resolution). Though that may not truly matter if it's a marked improvement from a typical 1080p monitor. I did take a look at this suggestion in the other thread I saw, and while for the last few years I've used a single ultrawide display (2560x1080) it was not curved. They do seem cool, but the necessity of a continuity for the screen isn't high for me. I would actually prefer two individual monitors for the optional vertical display (in the case I want to look at a large amount of code, or reading long articles). Not sure in actuality how much I'd use that, but the option is always nice. But definitely a consideration seeing as it appears no matter what for one ultrawide or two regular monitors I'll be shelling out ~$800 no matter what.1 point -

It's not that easy. The devil is in details. Things like apps that won't print on A5 papers, because they were never designed for it. Poor translations. Apps translated to RTL languages that also write math from right to left! Apps that don't let you use DMY dates in citations because the citation style is, I don't know, Chicago or MLA. Developers who resort to analogies you don't understand. They say, "Who likes his breakfast cold?" and you respond, "Duh! Everyone!" Apple is not an international-minded company. Microsoft is, but have you seen Windows 10? (Sure, it has come a long way... And yet...) Never heard of A5, just use what everyone else uses instead, Half letter. Such an American answer. Sure, just get the whole world excluding North America and parts of Latin America to switch from ISO 216 to ANSI. Simple enough. I should also point out that the Surface is hardly a laptop, if we're talking form factor. Go ahead and pop one of those on your lap and try to use it... let me know how it goes, I'll wait.1 point -

Fair enough. I guess it boils down to his budget. If he thinks that something larger than a 24" monitor is overkill though, I'm not sure he'll want to fork out for a 38" display. I stand by my suggestion, I think one 27" monitor would be the way to go. Reasonably priced and you do find yourself using the extra screen space gained over a 24".1 point -

You forget a couple things though. At least be a bit original and don't steal my comment's style. I'm sure nonsense like this is welcome in the Apple marketing team. Join them. "Continuity" and "cohesiveness", LOL. Are you advertising a brand of glue? The most typo-riddled piece of propaganda I've ever seen. It's "number of apps", not "amount of apps", it's "above-average" not "above average", and "macOS" not "MacOS"; there must be a comma after "compatibility". And by the way, instead of "average and above-average users", you could write "almost everyone". It'd be a lie, but a grammatically correct one. Look in this very same article for a laptop under one grand. Battery life becomes important only when the device is useful enough to turn it on. Apple laptops are not.1 point -

Out of the whole list, I have only played a few of them: Doom Eternal - Hands down one of the best games of the year for me. RDR2 - A very well done game Cyberpunk 2077 - On the PC it plays pretty good, minor graphical bugs, but overall a good game The Witcher 3 - Could spend along time with this game! No Mans Sky - I don't really know what to think about it, I own it, have played a fair bit, but I really don't see what the hype was all about. Dying Light - Can not wait for the sequel, this game is a truly fun game that I again could spend a long time playing. Far Cry 5 - Interesting storyline, good graphics, and decent gameplay does have replayability. Remnant: From the Ashes - This game to me is very interesting and confusing, I have not gotten very far in it, but it is a decent game to me1 point -

(1) A UI refresh is most definitely needed. Make the default UI more desktop/laptop oriented. Have an optional smartphone oriented UI available; instead of it being the current default. Windows-7 has a nice clean look that needs to return. (2) Get the "control" or "customizing" functions back into one central location; instead of being splattered all over the place. The WIndows-7 Control Panel was an excellent solution...why was it abandoned? Remember, if one can't find a function or feature, it does not exist--contrary to all the hype to the contrary. (3) Focus on stability and reliability, instead of tacking on new features. Its probably too late to return to modular programming, so now any failure in an obscure feature/function causes the entire OS to fail.1 point -

Windows 10X doesn't look to be ready for prime time in 2021 at all. Cloud Win32 programs? Come on Microsoft.
