Threads now autolock after a year of no replies
FloatingFatMan and 3 others reacted to Steven P. for a topic
We have purchased a plugin that automatically locks a thread after a year of no replies. We came to this length of time after initial testing and feedback from members, so thanks for that! There are several forums that are not included with the autolocking of threads, they are The Media Room, A Collection of Essential Guides, Reviews by Members for Members, Science News & Discussion, Members Metropolis & Soapbox forums (member only forums) Backstage Pass (subscriber only forum) and this Site Announcements forum. Pinned topics also are not auto locked. If you come across a topic that should be unlocked you can report the first post in that topic with a message to our staff why it should be unlocked.4 points -

Xiaomi launches the Mi 11 flagship in China with a Snapdragon 888 chipset

I have a Mi9 with MIUI v12.3(Xiaomi.eu v20.12.9) and Launcher 10. I'm not a fan of AOD, but went ahead and turned it on to check for you. For your first question, you can do a "custom". It requires you to set an image, but I was able to set a completely transparent one. "Clock position" has a "none" option and you can also turn off battery meter. That leaves you with notifications only. I got a notification for Skype, then one for FB, so, I suppose that works. I'm not sure what you are expecting, but it's displaying an icon under where time/date/batterymeter normally is, not full text of the notification like on the lock screen. There's no separate "AOD notification" app info settings that I can see like lockscreen to control how detailed it is. AKA, you know an app has said something, I would have to go to my regular lock screen to see what it is. The closed beta of MIUI v12.5 just came out, so I've got some small hope us xiaomi.eu users are going to be able to grab it Thursday night. I might double check then to see if they've offered more app info settings or always on display config. Thank you. Check if Telegram, Instagram, or Google Messages app show notifications. Because Xiaomi had whitelisted only the most popular apps earlier. Don't have Telegram. Don't have Google Messages. Instagram had shown up right before I turned AOD back off. Oh ok so it looks like they finally fixed it in MIUI 12 or 12.5. All notifications now seem to show instead of just select apps. Seems fairly recent fix: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/fsulty/miui_alwaysondisplay_finally_shows_all/ (less than a year)1 point -

I've thrown away so many mice because of the janky button issue. I only found out earlier this year that they can be easily repaired. What happens is the metal contact oxidizes. They can be disassembled and cleaned. My previous mouse was a generic office workstation mouse. Probably at least 10 years old but it wasn't used for that long, I pulled it from a box of junk some years back. I got a Microsoft Wireless Desktop 900 last December.1 point -

I use Logitech M570 Trackball and the only issue is that at some point he left click starts doing the double click. I could probably change the switch but after 5+ years the cost of use is so low I want to keep them in business.1 point -

UK mobile networks won't re-introduce EU roaming charges
Mr Singh reacted to dustojnikhummer for a topic
It is possible this was one of the points in the UK-EU trade deal, there was a lot that went in UK's favor Nope. The EU posted some propaganda "reading material" on the 26th claiming the UK would lose free roaming as it wasn't in the deal. It was obviously complete rubbish as most the carriers operate in multiple countries so it's no skin off their back to give it for free. If one removed it while the others didn't they would bleed customers like crazy. Also Vodafone and Three for example give you roaming in 70-80 countries. Remind me how many countries are in the EU? It hasn't and never will have anything to do with the EU. I mean yeah, of course the EU does not want countries to leave. One leaves and many can follow. Just like it is illegal to leave the US lol.1 point -

It's not that easy. The devil is in details. Things like apps that won't print on A5 papers, because they were never designed for it. Poor translations. Apps translated to RTL languages that also write math from right to left! Apps that don't let you use DMY dates in citations because the citation style is, I don't know, Chicago or MLA. Developers who resort to analogies you don't understand. They say, "Who likes his breakfast cold?" and you respond, "Duh! Everyone!" Apple is not an international-minded company. Microsoft is, but have you seen Windows 10? (Sure, it has come a long way... And yet...) Of course, none of this is true. What a weird troll. Are you sure about that? Yes, I’m very sure about it being a weird troll. First it was macOS that was Imperial-Centric (it’s not) then it was the apps that were. All the while not mentioning a specific, reproducible instance with a specific app. That’s a troll.1 point -

Roaming charges was a swizz anyway, just a money making scam since it is the same companies running the networks over there that are running the networks here.1 point -

"Also, the phone's box comes without a charger, but you can buy a bundle that includes that charger at no additional cost." Yeah, but at least for now you can get it for free. This makes more sense as an environmental effort, you can reduce how much space your box takes if you don't need it, but the charger is free if you do. We still have to see how it works in other countries, though.1 point -

Microsoft has a big 2021 planned for Windows and Surface
ZipZapRap reacted to samw61 for a topic
Yeah let's just take all supported software, dump it all and create a new thing with 0 software for it and require software developers to recode half of their apps from scratch. Sometimes I really wonder if people actually think about the ideas they have because this has hands down got to be one of the dumbest suggestions I've ever seen in regards to windows. If it ain't broke, don't break it. It's not about the all or nothing approaches like you're suggesting (backwards compatibility vs starting from scratch). There needs to be a balance of transparent backwards compatibility (Rosetta) and a CLEAR direction for new software, but the benifits of removing all that backwards compatibility can't be over looked. Less clunky system, faster, more efficient, less issues with upgrades into the future, easier to overhaul UI, etc. We need Windows 10X to do this.1 point -
