I think Disney are starting to wake up to this fact too. From what I've heard on the rumour mill, they've already shut down Kennedy's attempts at expanding her upcoming Acolyte show into a wider universe and are giving Filoni and Favreau more leeway in what they can do. Don't be surprised to see more and more elements from SW Legends brought into their shows in the future and quite possibly, a backdoor retconning of the sequels. Fortunately they have about 30 years of time they can play with between Jedi and Awakens.

Exactly, so this baseless ad-hominem "You don't like it because boys can't cope with strong female leads, you're all just mysoginists" (also known as the "Sony Ghostbusters Tactic") is utter hogwash. Heck even to the point that Rogue One was possibly my favourite modern SW movie. It's all about priorities: Filoni's priorities seem to be good stories and character development Kennedy's seem to be shoehorned inclusivity and setpieces I'm all for inclusivity, but not at the cost of the actual story or trampling over existing cannon. My generation grew up watching Ep6 at the cinema and had our "Hero Luke" that we had held on to for decades. We wanted to be him and play with lightsabres as a kid, we read about his ongoing stories as a teen, we saw his back story in our 20s, we played games that skirted close to his world in our 30s. And then he was suddenly turned into some grumpy, weird old hermit in our 40s - with such a thin backstory for this change that it wasn't acceptable. Then Filoni and Favreau reminded us of the Jedi Master that we last saw on screens in 1983. And it wasn't to anyone's detriment. It didn't hurt any wannabe-victim society group. It wasn't forced and it wasn't unjustified - heck it was fully explained via Moff Gideon's facial expressions. Was it a little deus-ex machina? Sure, for now. But it's going somewhere. And let's look at it this way - what has kept Disney afloat in 2020? Disney+, and what is the ONE THING currently worth watching on Disney+, the one thing that has pushed subscriptions through the roof? Yup, the awesome storytelling, world building, character arcs, reverence to cannon and presentation of The Mandalorian. Realistically, Disney should look at Kennedy and her cohorts (massively including Pablo Hidalgo for his stupid comments*) and realise that they aren't the massive money spinners that they thought they would be. Did the sequel trilogy make dollar? Sure. But did it setup an ongoing franchise for long-term storytelling and a bankable future? Sweet lord no. * Telling someone who cried at the season finale that "Emotions are not for sharing"... 'Scuse me? I cried like a baby, and Disney love that because there's no easier way to get people to part with money than to play upon emotions. When they play the SW theme in the fireworks and hold that note for just a couple of seconds longer, or when they play the theme lightly on piano, they know what they are doing. It's the same bankable nostalgia a showing us a Jedi Master arrive in a single X-Wing. "That thing you love? Here's more of it without watering it down!"

It's not about the strong female characters, it's about the strong male characters being REPLACED and then EMASCULATED by those making the movies in the first place. This isn't even the actress's fault, she's just reading a script and doing her job. I have zero issues with strong female character roles, but I DO have a problem with them replacing existing male characters and destroying them in the process. If Hollyweird wants us to embrace their female leads, then give us ORIGINAL characters with GOOD story lines, not super powered Mary Sues with story lines that pee all over our childhood heroes.

What's done is done, you can't retcon the whole ending half of the season final. If it's true and she's mad for some reason well too bad. She should be happy fans love Ahsoka so much and that there's a show with her on the way, there's your female hero if you're craving for one. Besides the first half of the final ep was chicks being badass. Personally, I don't have issue with the idea of Rey, it was interesting till they screwed it up themselves. The fans are done with the sequel trilogy, I bet most would be happy if they retconned them fully. The whole first order bit is dumb thinking back on it, a planet size version of the death star , though I know it's from the comics but come on. You can spend all day poking holes in the trilogy till there's nothing left, just bad story telling.

If you aren't catfished into clicking on BS headlines that claim something and then end up being nothing more than clickbait with nothing of what is claimed in the headline (like for example "Air date for Strange New Worlds" and then it ends up claiming "sometime in 2021" those sort of articles). I immediately block these sites from Google News, which is mainly where it happens for me. Here are some annoyances in no particular order Random captchas showing up on sites I visit every week (like for example my local supermarket order online) without VPN, why then? North American sites denying entry for visitors from the EU (seriously F*** YOU!) GDPR cookie banner annoyance Yes I do have an extension to bypass GDPR cookie warnings, but while it works in 80% of the time, it creates an additional annoyance on sites it doesn't work on by disabling the page altogether until I disable it manually for that site and reload the page/accept the cookies. Honestly, people couldn't be more annoying if they tried with just these examples.

That's exactly what I'm hearing. So, worth noting that while I'm a huge Star Wars fan, I'm a MASSIVE Disney follower. I'm not gonna say "fan" because that suggests that I love watching cartoons (which is not my thing). I love the parks, I am fascinated by the backstage machinations, I have memorabilia dating back to before the Disneyland opening and so on - and from that I understand Disney. I know how they work, why they do what they do, how they manipulate their guests and viewers - I've no issue with it, I just recognise it. And from that, I can guarantee that they value longer-term bankable storytelling over short-term goals. While yes, they are a massive money and marketing machine, there genuinely is a respect for their stance, and they absolutely are not the box-ticking leftists that many people assume. That was ALL on Kennedy; if anything was on Disney it would have been the marketing and tie-in products aspects. This is the same company that signed-off on "so everyone dies at the end" of Rogue One, the same company that turned Tony Stark's death into manipulative horror scenes in Homecoming, the same company that heard for 5 years that "Elsa needs a girlfriend" and simply did not, the same company that showed Trump the same reverence as any other president in their Hall Of Presidents.

Uh yeah... Not sure what you're on, but it must be some good stuff. We're not talking about past Star Wars, we're talking about Kathleen Kennedy Star Wars. You know, the SEQUELS that have been released over the past few years and are widely hated by a large percentage of the fan base because of the Mary Sue character and how they gutted Luke and the others? Hell, they even turned Leia into Mary Poppins... No one claimed the basic story line was original.

Well doing a search I found this site, but I don't know anything about their history or validity. I don't know what she is expecting. Luke's appearance wasn't cheered because he's a white male who would be the hero. Hell, one of the few things I really enjoyed about the sequel story was that it showed how he failed after RotJ, and his appearance in The Mandalorian didn't change that story. He and Boba Fett were cheered because they were childhood icons. For me, my issue with the sequels had nothing to do with a female lead character and everything to do with it being a rehash of the original's story which lost its direction as the films went on. If she tries to change the narrative solely in the name of feminism she won't gain an audience, she'll just lose the current audience.

Let's look at iOS as a great example: 32-bit OS until, what, iOS 9? Then 64-bit. There was a 32-bit compatability until iOS 11 after which you could no longer run 32-bit applications at all, now you might think "oh well" but no, that's ######. Lots of that software was PAID, and essentially it was all dumped, and you as a user have no recourse to get your money back, and because it's apple there's no way to revert to an older version of iOS an dun software YOU HAVE PAID FOR. I agree with you for the most part. But people don't just want software that works, they want software that works as expected. If the software isn't updated to keep in line with the new system, features, interface, etc. then it eventually doesn't work as expected and the experience is bad, even if it does work. This example isn't quite in line, but here in Aus, our BoM (weather forecasters) put out an app for Apple devices. A month or so later that same app was ported across to Android, and not updated for years. Even when it was new on Android, it was a terrible experience because it expected an iOS system, so animations were direct from iOS, back buttons didn't work, and it was just a clunky iOS 4 mess on an Android 2.3 system (the app survived till Android 5 days, but no one used it). We live in a modern world where things get updated daily. Not saying that's a great thing, but that's how it is. Apples grace period and transparent compatibility with a set time frame (generally two release cycles), is implemented brilliantly, and it allows them to keep their systems much more efficient. Developers know the path they need to go down if their app is to remain compatible, and if their users are paying for such a product, they better well get their ###### together and have something in place by the time that support ends. And some times a code refresh is what an app needs too to remain relevant and responsive, so while it may be a lot of work each time Apple or MS change their backend, if done right (and not that frequently) it is actually a good thing. Eg. I can't imagine Photoshop is using much of the same code from the PowerPC days! You forget the thousands of companies that have proprietary and expensive software that has been running on Windows since the XP times or even before, that works and has to keep working. Microsoft can't simply let them down. Apple does not have this problem.

FINALLY got to finish Season 2. First off, the motto of this entire show is "Fan Service". If there's something fans have wanted to see, or see happen, they're putting it in. And I freakin' love it. Next, each episode feels "slow". It's not a Marvel superhero show, or Jason Bourne action flick... and I'm perfectly fine with that. I'm digging the vibe of the slow pace. As for the feeling that every episode led up to the finale... I grew up watching movies like Hawk the Slayer and The Magnificent Seven (and Seven Samurai once I learned it was the original), plus reading D&D books. So the concept of the hero going around making friends through his adventures, and then calling on them in his time of need to go on an adventure with him really takes me back. I was digging the hell out of that premise. Top that with bringing back the armor's owner so we can finally see how much ass he can kick was great. Lastly... HOLY *(&# that finale episode!! I am so totally down for whatever they give us next. Seriously, they've got me for the long haul with The Mandalorian, and whatever spin-offs they want to throw at me. I'm completely sold on their commitment to keeping Star Wars cool.

Anyway just wanted to update you all on why some old topics from 2001 might be showing up on your feeds.

It's not that easy. The devil is in details. Things like apps that won't print on A5 papers, because they were never designed for it. Poor translations. Apps translated to RTL languages that also write math from right to left! Apps that don't let you use DMY dates in citations because the citation style is, I don't know, Chicago or MLA. Developers who resort to analogies you don't understand. They say, "Who likes his breakfast cold?" and you respond, "Duh! Everyone!" Apple is not an international-minded company. Microsoft is, but have you seen Windows 10? (Sure, it has come a long way... And yet...)

"Continuity" and "cohesiveness", LOL. Are you advertising a brand of glue? The most typo-riddled piece of propaganda I've ever seen. It's "number of apps", not "amount of apps", it's "above-average" not "above average", and "macOS" not "MacOS"; there must be a comma after "compatibility". And by the way, instead of "average and above-average users", you could write "almost everyone". It'd be a lie, but a grammatically correct one. Look in this very same article for a laptop under one grand. Battery life becomes important only when the device is useful enough to turn it on. Apple laptops are not.

Aero was probably the most consistent UI Microsoft has ever had. Followed by XP and then 95 (first release, not that nonsense active desktop variant). The only inconsistent stuff left by XP and maybe 7 were legacy icons that most users didn’t even notice, use. It wasn’t until Windows 8 where Microsoft lost their minds with UI, and since then it’s only ever gotten worse. I have zero hopes MS will course correct and continue to evolve and “complete” their UI, since where they make will based on those terrible Windows 8/10 design ideologies.

20H2 was buggy as hell when it first was pushed to PC's. I've had two customers with corrupted Windows installations that could not be repaired. What is annoying is that Microsoft stopped Window 10, since v.1809, from making automatic registry backups. There was no good reason to eliminate this important and useful way to fix Windows corruption, especially if it was solely in the registry. Why did they remove registry backups, and yet added unimportant features that none of my customers knew existed, including "Meet now"?

  44. Here are the five coolest tech innovations of 2020

I will politely disagree with you on the X1 Fold and the LG wing. These crazy form factors may be just a year or so old but foldable phones and multi screen devices are going to be the future (whether you are on board this trend or not). In that sense, both products are revolutionary. In case of Lenovo, it has brought the ideology of foldable design to the PC world and executed it well (although not perfect). Foldable devices exist, but this is the best one yet that makes people sit up and take notice. This is actually similar to what Apple has done with its silicon. ARM PCs exist, but this is the best one yet that makes people sit up and take notice. LG, OTOH, has turned the concept of multi screen devices on its head (pun intended) in genuinely useful ways. True multitasking on mobile phones is still wonky at best. We need 2 screens to give equal attention to 2 apps simultaneously and tasks involving the use of 1 primary app and 1 secondary app simultaneously is a compromise to both app experiences (see split screen, floating windows, chat heads, actions on the notification shade). This device is a solution for that problem. Additionally, holding the phone in landscape mode with a single hand isn't ergonomic. Even though people want larger screens, they prefer to hold something small and easy in their hands (See the prevalence of vertical videos, kickstands, pop sockets that rotate phones, gimbals and selfie sticks). This phone definitely isn't perfect but is a revolutionary step in the right direction.

  45. Here are the five coolest tech innovations of 2020

"starring Sony's PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's Xbox Series X|S. While each console has slightly different strengths and weaknesses, both brought very similar innovations, including being some of the first pieces of hardware to pack RDNA2-based GPUs" PS5, sure, but you might want to at least fact check the reasons you give. 1) The PS5's GPU does NOT have full RDNA2 hardware. See AMD. See Microsoft. The Xbox Series S/X developer tools didn't turn on RDNA2 until a couple of months ago, where Sony's development toolkit was fully optimized for the RDNA1 + Ray Tracing added to the shader pipeline. It is not RDNA2. Microsoft, just like AMD, doesn't even have a fully optimized driver path or development framework for the Xbox series graphics. Sony does, you know why? Sony's hardware is only RDNA1 + their ray tracing implementation. This is why, that PS5, being 25% slower than the Xbox series X, with the current development tools, is about the same speed as the Xbox series X in some games, as they are not optimized for RDNA2 or even using those technologies. The Microsoft and AMD GPU drivers are still not even optimized for RDNA2. The AMD 6xxx GPUs will get faster as the drivers are optimized, and developers actually implement the newer technologies without a semi emulation layer that is optimized for Nvidia RTX hardware. (Now NVidia may keep the lead, as their hardware as specific ML processing, where AMD is doing the ML/Ai work in the existing shader pipeline.) Sony opted for faster uptick of development for current generation gaming, as things from the existing PC and console generations, translate easily to the PS5 RDNA, but is significantly limited in features & technologies that come from RDNA2 hardware. Sony cannot have RDNA2 hardware, as Microsoft helped AMD develop it, and Sony's silicon was finalized long before the RDNA2 silicon and features were implemented. 2) 3D Audio - The Xbox Series has MORE 3D audio technologies than the PS5, with the new 3D spatial hardware and engine, and it also outputs and translates to non-proprietary technologies like DTS and Dolby Atmos - specifically things the PS5 does not do because it is using a Sony only audio output format, that is effectively worthless right now. The tempest engine is interesting, but offers NOTHING that is not in the Xbox - as it does full 360 degree output, supporting up to like 64-128 speaker locations. 3D space is 3D space, there is no additional direction that the tempest is offering. Let me be clear here, as binaural in ear 3D audio is NOT NEW, and is fully supported on the Xbox Series. Except, the Xbox can output and reproduce it on SPEAKERS - something the PS5 CANNOT DO, as the 3D audio does not support speakers the PS5. Users expecting a speaker based 3D audio experience, will not currently get it with the PS5. The PS5's 3D audio is currently only Headphone only and limited to Sony's implementation, where the Xbox series supports DTS, Atmos, speakers and headphones, and can map to the user's ear shape, something that may be coming to the PS5 for headphone. ------ The PS5 is a great console, and has some good strengths, but it has no feature that is above the Xbox Series or PC technologies, and it also is not as full featured or as fast. Picking features that some bad tech reviews promoted as being PS5 'only' and saying these are the reason to buy a PS5 is just not accurate. Instead, talk about the dual shock (as you have) VR experiences, the UI and in game UI features that are unique, etc. (It is ok to prefer the PS5, but don't give people bad information to justify why.)

  48. Precisely. I'm surprised so many western media outlets are happy to regurgitate the nonsense the CCP comes out with to explain away their actions. Jack Ma got a bit too big for his boots and the CCP didn't like it so they shut him down (or at least took him down a peg or two) largely to make sure nobody else got any ideas, and to make it clear who's boss. That's it. None of this "monopolies won't be tolerated" nonsense. Please, western "journalists", stop reposting CCP press releases as "news" and actually do a bit of journalism and find out the real story. And you can start doing that with western news stories too while you're at it.
