  4. No one expects "PAID" anything from CDPR. If they think anyone is buying anything from again they're delusional. If they try, I will simply download it via torrent and share it with everyone I know. They're done collecting money. As the consumer I have that power. Speak for yourself, I'm enjoying the game quite a lot on my PC. Don't regret paying for it.

Yes, some issues but they are patching quickly and soon things will be fine. I already noticed a huge diff on the XBOX since the release. It is a fun game and I am enjoying it. So I am sure lots will still by from CDPR. They have well over 13mil 2077 sold and that factors in the copies returned as well. And these numbers were from several days ago. One of the biggest game launches of 2020. So lots of people are enjoying the game. CDPR also guaranteed refunds for those who wanted one.

  6. Quality games - no one else makes games like Nintendo. They have their own very unique flavor, or "magic" if you will, that no one is able to replicate. There have been clones but never quite the same level of quality. Nowhere else are you able to play a game like Mario Odyssey, BOTW, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, etc. Sure, there are other platformes, or open world action adventure games, but will never feel the same as Mario. That's why Nintendo can get away with subpar hardware at premium price. Also, been able to dock it or take it with you on the fly is quite cool. I do have a PS5 and Xbox Series X, but the Switch still hold its own unique spot for me.

  7. HP OMEN 30L review: RTX 3080 power in a stylish chassis

Ignore the nm process and look at performance and if it's what you need. Choosing a CPU over its nm process is silly. it's 11% faster than a 3700x while using almost double the power and costs almost double. I stand by my comment.

  8. Discuss: What would you want to see in a Nintendo Switch Pro?

It’s the only reasonably priced portable console on the market and it has lots of fun games. Also, it is not really slow (though it does need a Pro refresh much like PS4 and Xbox One needed one during their life) and the battery life on the Switch V2 is great (5-9 hours of active use). The screens are on par with a more expensive GPD Win Max (screen is 6” at 720P which comes to around 220 PPI which is fine for portable gaming). The only major issue is the joy-sticks (and frankly you can find quality issues on the other consoles given all of these systems are aiming to be inexpensive gateways to the games; for example the DualShock 4 analog sticks also wear out and drift overtime and DualSense will do so as well given it uses the same analog pads; DualShock 4 also suffered from poor battery life; PS4 Pro was very loud; much like the Switch none of that stopped people from buying it). i've got little interest in arguing, suffice to say when i use one i'm left feeling like it's a device from 2015. That was already problematic when it launched in 2017, but in 2021 it's unacceptable. Arguing the screen is better than a single other device when the market is flooded with decent 1080p 6inch screens also makes no sense. It's cheap, low quality, and was at the time it launched. It's 720p because that's all the underpowered and old at the time of launch tegra could possible handle, and still some games only run at 540p. sure, some other controllers develop issues after use. they're also cheaper to replace. i agree none of the stuff you or I mentioned stops people from buying it. I just don't understand why. nostalgia and irrational attraction are the only things i can understand. I do think the comparison with regards to the screen is appropriate though. Both the GPD and the Switch are aiming to be gaming devices. At 6.1 inches and at regular viewing distance you are not going to notice much of difference between 720P and 1080P; so why put in a 1080P screen when you could put those resources towards something else wanted in a gaming device. Similarly, with regards to power, what you describe is pretty much consoles in a nutshell. They have fixed specs (barring a mid-gen "pro" model) that will become outdated. What you say about the Switch is true about any other system. Also, it is true the Switch's Tegra X1 was two years old at the time the Switch launched but it was still generally graphically competitive against other mobile SOCs in its price range. As for why people like the device it is neither irrational nor is it just nostalgia (though nostalgia is nonetheless an important marketing tool in entertainment and Nintendo as well as others do exploit it). Overall people just want a decent priced portable console with fun games; the Switch meets those needs (just like 3DS&Vita/DS&PSP/GBA/GB did before it). When it comes to gaming the mainstream public does not only look at specs but also games and novelty, this is why consoles like PS4 (despite launching in 2013 and now being far outclassed by more powerful PC hardware) have sold astoundingly well even after their specs no longer held up. This sort of reminds me the old argument regarding TV entertainment boxes. I remember when things like Apple TV and ChromeCast (the "smart TV" platforms) came out, you had people with Windows Media Center HTPCs saying those platforms would never take off because they don't have the power of PC hardware and software, and yet they took off despite not being as powerful. It was because in general people were not looking for a powerful PC under their TV (there is a market for that, albeit a smaller one), they just wanted a simple platform to stream content to. It is sort of the same with game consoles, yes there is a period where specs are drummed up but that largely fades after launch (given the consoles don't keep up with the latest specs until a new generation or an aggressive mid-gen update) and the focus goes the games and the fun the systems provide.

Hardly true with games like Mario Kart 8, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Bayonetta 2, Luigi’s Mansion, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Splatoon 2, Mario Maker 2, etc. If you only bought the system for a single title and you don’t like any of the other games or simply don’t want to try them then it doesn’t matter how many games release on the system.

  10. Adobe Flash Player is set for discontinuation within hours

For enterprise, this is often easier said than done. I'm on the vendor side and we've actually replaced all Flash components in our products years ago, except updating a large customized enterprise solution isn't quite as straightforward as updating an app on your phone. For many customers this means potentially millions of dollars in upgrade costs all the while getting no new functionality that they need, and so they stick with an old version with security patches applied. Luckily there are ways to keep Flash Player working beyond January 2021, but these are obviously not ideal. All of us would like to see it disappear, but it just isn't that easy.

No speedometer and having to look to the right to see the screen would drive me nuts. At the moment, in my car, I have "Navdy" a nice little projection hud. Is Amazon the merchant (ships and sold via Amazon)? if so - yes. Otherwise, you must go through the seller/merchant. That is why I check through the listing on each item - because going through a third-party seller CAN come back and bite (had that happen). Preferably I will deal directly with Amazon; it eliminates such silliness.

  29. DVI is dead. You might still find it on budget GPUs but anything else is now DP and HDMI exclusively. You can still use your DVI monitor though, just get a DVI to HDMI lead to hook it up. It'll work just fine since DVI is same as HDMI but without audio pass through. That sounds good and all but I just prefer to keep my current setup similar in the future. but taking a quick look online it appears they make cheap adapters from DVI to DP connection (for around $10-15) which will suffice (assuming there is no negatives here?) as I want to keep my HDMI connection exclusively for TV usage and the DVI/DP for my current 1080p monitor (ASUS VW246H) which I have had since I think Feb 2010. my current monitor can accept a HDMI connection but it would stop me from connecting the TV to which would be a show stopper. but a quick question... I assume the DP(with DVI adapter converted to DP connection to GPU) and HDMI connection will work similarly to how my current DVI/HDMI setup will? but thanks for the info adrynalyne/Xerxes. p.s. but it's nothing ill have to worry about too soon as I plan on milking my current desktop for as long as I can before I have to upgrade. so basically I plan on using this til at least 2023 at the very least and probably more in the 2025+ range before I finally build another desktop. currently I got a i5-3550 CPU/1050 Ti 4GB GPU. Yep, using an adapter for the DVI connection would allow you to keep things as they are with your current setup. The TV keeps its dedicated HDMI port and the DVI monitor can use either a DP or HDMI and continue to function as it previously did.

The regular Switch is outselling the Lite by a significant margin so the market is responding positively to the hybrid approach. In addition, much like Sony, I doubt Nintendo wants to split game development resources between a portable and stationary console again.

  38. Microsoft has a big 2021 planned for Windows and Surface

Let's look at iOS as a great example: 32-bit OS until, what, iOS 9? Then 64-bit. There was a 32-bit compatability until iOS 11 after which you could no longer run 32-bit applications at all, now you might think "oh well" but no, that's ######. Lots of that software was PAID, and essentially it was all dumped, and you as a user have no recourse to get your money back, and because it's apple there's no way to revert to an older version of iOS an dun software YOU HAVE PAID FOR. I agree with you for the most part. But people don't just want software that works, they want software that works as expected. If the software isn't updated to keep in line with the new system, features, interface, etc. then it eventually doesn't work as expected and the experience is bad, even if it does work. This example isn't quite in line, but here in Aus, our BoM (weather forecasters) put out an app for Apple devices. A month or so later that same app was ported across to Android, and not updated for years. Even when it was new on Android, it was a terrible experience because it expected an iOS system, so animations were direct from iOS, back buttons didn't work, and it was just a clunky iOS 4 mess on an Android 2.3 system (the app survived till Android 5 days, but no one used it). We live in a modern world where things get updated daily. Not saying that's a great thing, but that's how it is. Apples grace period and transparent compatibility with a set time frame (generally two release cycles), is implemented brilliantly, and it allows them to keep their systems much more efficient. Developers know the path they need to go down if their app is to remain compatible, and if their users are paying for such a product, they better well get their ###### together and have something in place by the time that support ends. And some times a code refresh is what an app needs too to remain relevant and responsive, so while it may be a lot of work each time Apple or MS change their backend, if done right (and not that frequently) it is actually a good thing. Eg. I can't imagine Photoshop is using much of the same code from the PowerPC days! Sure, but Adobe makes products for end consumers. What I mean by "Backwards compatibility for businesses" are companies like your local supermarket. Old, clunky, duck-taped together software the company relies on. My local Tesco got new self-checkout registers around half a year ago. Nice capacitive touchscreen, gorilla glass screen etc... but it runs Windows XP, because it has to. (Maybe it runs the POS2009, not sure, I just saw the bootscreen once) I guess my understanding of what Windows 10X is may be different to you. From what MS has hinted, I believe it is a succession plan to some extent, but only for certain markets. Consumer PC & tablet users would end up on 10X, a fresh system without all the backwards compatibility that the average user just does not need. For everyone else wanting to hold on to 20 year old software, there's the usual Windows 10. But eventually that will go too. Not after a measly two years, or even 5. But hopefully 10 years after a successful Win10X rollout to most markets, the old school software will have been replaced with something newer that works on all systems. Personally I don't want to be stuck with a bloated (albeit powerful) pig of a OS for another 20 years that's holding onto compatibility for a bunch of poorly written propitiatory programs. Most of us don't need that. MS consumer focus isn't clear. I get most of it's money is in big business, but it can do both, and that is what Win10X is supposed to be. Also if a supermarkets new POS system is running Windows XP (or whatever), then what is the issue with backwards compatibility in Windows 10? Seems irrelevant, or they already dropped that particular compatible component.. Why is the OS that a supermarket runs on their POS equipment of any concern to you? Do you baulk when you see mcdonalds using DOS on their systems in store because it's 50 years old and has no GUI? No, it is perfectly fine for these places. Supermarket/fast food/etc. systems are air-gapped, they are not internet accessible at all, they are on an internal only network, so they could be running windows 3.11 if they want, it is of no concern to you. As for the comment about all software using legacy APIs being poorly written, that's something only someone that doesn't really understand anything would say. If you can write software in 1996 and that software still runs AS-IS TODAY on windows 10 without issues, that's a damn good piece of software that was properly designed and tested I referred to the POS because @dustojnikhummer was trying to use it to justify backwards compatibility.. Frankly it didn't work for that argument, they can use it as long as they want for all I care. As you said, air gapped, and that systems OS has zero effect on Windows 10X, as both can continue to exist. We seem to be on the same page just FYI. If something written 20+ years ago still runs on Windows 10 today, then brilliant. And with Win10 & Win10X side by side for a while, you get what you want, consumers get what they want. Different user groups, backwards compatibility not required for one of them. Both existing at the same time. What a time we live in! And consumers will not pick Windows 10X... Agreed, because MS keeps focusing on the wrong aspect. They need apps. Useful apps. Powerful apps. Made by all the known developers. Not web apps. Not 60 versions of crappy drawing apps. Not something designed for an OS that is not Windows 10. They need developer buy-in. Which means they first need a single, clear, powerful, long term, future proof path to follow. But also maybe working with the developers to get their apps on there. I find it amazing that Apple announced their plans, and by the time it was released (or very soon after), both Adobe and (ironically) Microsoft had their suite of apps ready to run native. How can MS not get this sort of buy in? It took Adobe years to get something half decent into the MS Store. And then it's muddied by the other poor attempts from Win8 era. At least Windows has a decent browser this time around, with the option of web apps, as a last alternative. "They need developer buy-in. Which means they first need a single, clear, powerful, long term, future proof path to follow. But also maybe working with the developers to get their apps on there." They have one, it's called win32 and it's been around for over 25 years - see, long term, stable, great software... You don't seem to see that you're asking for is what already exists True, it's done us soooo well up until now. But isn't the problem win32 can't run native on some systems though? My understanding is that if we just stick to intel/amd compatible machines, we'd be fine. Have we not reached the end of the road for win32 yet? I don't think that using the same system that was around when I was learning my alphabet on a chalk board is they way to look into the future. And I won't lie, while it sounds to good to be true, having an app that works on a phone, tablet, laptop, desktop, game console, VR headset and anywhere else possible, without needing to be rewritten, that would be the dream. Win32 is a bunch of API functions, it's not a programming language, it's not an instruction set. In fact windows NT shipped for intel, arm, mips, dec - win32 existed for all of them. Regardless of whatever API you're using, the file needs to be compiled for your target architecture, the library calls are something else Yup, just because they got discontinue doesn't mean they did not exist. Hell, for a while Windows Server was on Itanium

God I'm so tired of that excuse to make ###### "strong" female leads that we should just accept, otherwise it'd just clear we're insecure betas. I'm secure AF. I like movies with strong female leads, in fact now that I have a daughter I go way out of my way to make sure a greater portion of our entertainment is built around actually well-rounded strong (deserved) female leads. In fact my favourite movie ever, The Fifth Element, is lead by the strongest character (a female). The fact of the matter is the majority of these movies, where people like you need to constantly defend it by bashing people for not liking it by attacking their masculinity, exist with these criticisms you feel you must attack because these are NOT STRONG FEMALE LEADS. These are ###### mary sues with undeserved powers, respect and admiration whilst diminishing the integrity of the character of the males that dare oppose them mentally or physically. It's hogshit. It's clear agenda pushing and it's propagated solely by the inability of others to differentiate between deserved criticism and "toxic masculinity". Give me movies like Lucy, Anna, The Fifth Element, Terminator 2, Alien, Hannah. And ###### off with Charlie's Angels where literally every single white guy is a bad guy (shocker), and all these other glorified statements of how terrible I am for being a male. Now, I do believe females need their time in the spotlight with these action movies, and etc. But please stop doing it to the detriment of men, because it's sexist ###### and it needs to stop.
