Because they're massively exploited. Work 100 hours a week, aren't paid hourly but earn a "salary" (usually), are always on call and never get a moment to breathe. This. It amazes me how little people understand that you aren’t super well paid if you work insane hours. I worked through Christmas. And New Years. Am I super well paid? Not anymore. A 40 hour week? Sure, I do ok.

Guess what, there are good and bad unions and there are good and bad people in unions. Guess what there isn't? Corporations that operate for the good of their employees, or corporations that provide for their workers more than even the most ###### union. This is a debate that makes no sense. You have unions (protectors of humans) and you have werewolves (corporations) that want to eat and exploit the humans. Even the shittiest unions (protectors of humans) are better than werewolves that don't give a ###### about the people and will use and eat them. People that bitch about unions are too used to living in a deregulated countiry (like the USA) where there is no active labor party or labor advocates. In economics you can't have anti-labor business, with nothing to protect labor. You either have political movement or Unions or you have horrible slave labor working conditions. Pick any country and these basic concepts apply and describe the country rather generically but accurately.

Union work is quite a bit larger in scope than just striking and pay. I'm self employed and belong to a union because they offer legal advice which I otherwise couldn't afford. On top of that they give me lots of discounts at cinemas and on products if I ever want to take advantage of them. On balance, I think you're better off being in a union than not. It's like the UK's NHS, you pay a certain amount each year in tax to maintain the health system even if you never use it that year but when you do end up using it you aren't lumped with an enormous bill; safety in numbers.

Kind of hard to keep a AR going if you're locked inside and can't freely go out whenever you want. But I think these type of AR games have seen their time in the spotlight.

  12. This is more likely to keep hackers from figuring out how to break the PS lockdowns. Older hardware becomes easier to hack as time goes on. And if Sony still sold the older units, then they would become more enticing, and Sony would lose out on game sales income. PS5 production is still not good and supplies are very limited.

  15. They haven't even applied their current UI in a uniform manner. This is just going to fragment the UX even further. They'd better add back in keyboard navigation. The current keyboard experience for stuff like Photos is horrible. Also let there be a bigger indication of which is the active window. Get dark mode to apply everywhere, and Office to listen to the system preference and not have redundant settings.

Apparently someone fully invested in Corporate America Kool Aid (tm). Literally all of what you wrote is wrong, except for the fact that occasionally unions protect ###### workers, just like corporate America frequently protects ###### managers. But the US manufacturing industry was not crushed by unions, it was crushed by free trade. Actually it's not wrong... I worked several years for a well-known Fortune 500 manufacturing company, and I saw first-hand how the union financially ruins the company. Demanded wages ran rampant (else strike), leading the company to close plants, fire a huge chunk of the workforce, and massively cut benefits. This company is still struggling the stay afloat. People can sleep on the job and the union will protect them, work can't be done unless the correct person handles the tools, people get "promoted" since they can't be fired, etc. The health and culture difference of a union vs non-union shop is dramatic. It's all fun and games for the employees that tend to get higher wages and union protection.... until the company finds loopholes to cut heads and level the playing field. This isn't some big secret. The US auto industry was corrupted by the same games... Replace union workers with 'lazy slaves', and notice everything you say doesn't change. These are BS myths told by business majors that are clueless to economics, labor forces, manufacturing, etc. This is crap they tell themselves to make their predatory mentality seem less ruthless. These are freaking people's lives you are playing with, all to test or push an agenda that is designed to increase wealth for a worthless few. This is no longer a philosophical debate, there are actual facts and numbers that dismiss every subjective example you use. We have the numbers of supply side and top down economics for the past 40 years, we no longer need to pretend it is 'theory'. It is crap and works like crap and harms the work forces around the world. and benefits a small few. When people look at Apple's cash or worth and wonder how mass stockpiling like this can happen, and allowed to happen in a way that is demonstrably a harm to the economy and society it exists - the answer is simple, supply side/trickle down BS of 40 years, with corporates only adhering to profit motives instead of operating in the interest of the community they exist, as corporations existed just 30-40 years ago.

Something something mobile devices aren't powerful enough for Aero - so we can't have it for desktops either... It's amazing how MS messed up the UI since Win7...

  23. If you are hearing the PS5 has the performance advantage, you might want to skip relying on those sources in the future. Even giving those sources the benefit of the doubt, they are intentionally misleading people. The Xbox Series only shipped the release and full RDNA2 framework to developers a little over a month ago. This means all the new performance technology in the Xbox Series is not being used in games, or even in the emulation layers. Every developer and tech level engineer or reviewer will also know this, it is not a hidden secret, and it was the cost MS was willing to pay to bundle the console around the newer RNDA2 architecture. Microsoft wanted to base the Xbox Series off the next generation of frameworks and architectures. They worked with AMD to design the technologies of RDNA2 along with newer CPU and SoC optimizations. (This is why the 4xxx mobile processors from AMD are as fast as their desktop counterparts) This means all Xbox Series current releases, including MIcrosoft's own internal emulation and system layers are using the older frameworks that are not designed for RDNA 2.0. This is also why Sony didn't want to mess with RDNA2, as they wanted to optimize their dev tools early on, even if it was leaving a huge chunk of new and revised technologies out of the PS5. So, in games currently shipping, most of them are fully optimized for the PS5, as much as possible for the PS5 architecture. Sony did not want to go down the road of post release optimizations like they did with the PS2, PS3, PS4, etc. This allows them to hit the ground running with essentially the same dev tools from the PS4 being used for the latest PS5 titles. (Which was probably smart for Sony to do, as it worked to get developer's to pump out new generation optimized titles earlier. This is why Sony went with the older RDNA 1.x architecture and frameworks. So if anyone is posting or telling people the PS5 has a performance advantage in ANY game, they are purposely lying or really not paying attention to the development or engineering community. The Xbox Series games are essentially using the Xbox One X generation of dev tools and GPU technologies. (Which is considerably less efficient, slow and less capable than the new architecture and framework.) Also, it is worth repeating, the PS5 is only using RDNA 1.x with Sony's Ray Tracing path added to the shaders. The XBox Series S and X are the ONLY consoles with full AMD RDNA 2+ architecture. (Microsoft worked with AMD to create RDNA2) Now, I'm sure 'fans' won't understand or could care less, as the performance isn't massive, but at around 25-30% even without the RDNA2 optimizations, it should have been enough to entice performance minded games. However, Sony highlighted the SSD BS - which turns out is slower with a higher CPU load on the PS5 than on the XBox Series S or X. Gamers instead think the SSD is more important than it is, and with Sony handing Epic 200 million to showcase Unreal on the PS5, gamers think the PS5 is as good. Sony also coasts on the myth that these consoles are from the same AMD CPU/GPU silicon and are what AMD handed them, and that they are essentially the same. Even tech reviewers like Linus Tech have made similar dismissive comments about the consoles. The truth is there is nearly a full generation of technology differences, and Microsoft not only added performance to the SoC design, they gave those improvements to AMD to use, which today appear in the AMD 4xxxx and 5xxxx processors. So if people think the PS5 has a faster SSD, and the rest is pretty much the same, performance or even visual features just won't matter to buyers. I don't get. Why are You when Microsoft vs XYZ companies are in question resorting from half truths to misinformation to fully blown lies. What is that You hope You will achieve? Every single thing that You just wrote belongs into one of the aforementioned categories. From Sony's chip is RDNA 1.x to Microsoft being the only company in this thread aside from AMD contributing to RDNA2, completely ignoring the ZEN 3 and RDNA 3 features that made it into Sony's APU to Microsoft SSD being faster...etc. As for Microsoft's GDK being late or unoptimized...You said the same thing for the last generation...EDRAM is still not being utilized fully, Microsoft GPU is 30% faster...oh Yes You claimed Direct X and Cloud will destroy PS4. We are all aware how things ended for Xbox One. It never got even close to PS4 performance, so colour me suspicious of the magical GDK as if Sony's devs will be sitting on their asses. Digital Foundry is a fantastic source on both Series X and PS5, You might want to check their direct comparison videos.

  33. It might not use electron. It might use React native like the Xbox app. Or it might use WebView2. Look up webview2 if you don’t know what it is. It basically replaces Windows’s built in web framework from the old ie trident engine to the Edge’s chromium engine. So hypothetically you can run infinite number of web apps with just one instance of the engine. Plus being integrated into the OS means these apps won’t be packaged with blink nor load its own copy at runtime, making them much smaller. I didn't saw any app based on browser technology which 1. works fast and efficient 2. has feature parity with native apps 3. looks as a native app (coloured top window bar) Maybe, someday but until that, I'll be pretty sceptical. I would rather believe that the current PWA's messy look will become a standard in the guideline than something will change for the better.

  35. Outlook Express was not a bad app, I used it myself Until I could afford it (the Office '97 suite) I used and quite liked Outlook Express. Even after going with Outlook '98 (since '97 was a disaster they released '98 as a free disc) I used it as my Usenet newsreader for years. I never knew they did this. I was stuck using office 97...so what was wrong with outlook then? I'm guessing it was just unstable and the UI was ugly. I tried using '97, hated it and went back to Express. Once I got the free '98 disc in the mail I decided to try again and stuck with it. The side note, is there were technically quite a few issues with Outlook in this timeframe, and Outlook Express was a better client in various deployment models. For example, Outlook Express could use a shared folder database location, with transactional management of content, where Outlook itself could not share its folders at the local level. So in a lot of non-exchange based network deployments, it was easier/better for smaller offices to use Outlook Express, as users could move from station to station without issues, where Outlook would lock their folders to specific sign-in location. Just crazy that the Win32 in-app team was smarter than the Office team at the time, and this has often been true in the last 25 years. The outlook team often thinks their financial power equates to knowing better compared to Windows engineers, and they reinvent crap all the time and break things. Custom dialogs in the Win9x era that broke Window's adaptable dialogs to todays Office 365 clientst that bypass the Windows DWM for rendering and are doing twice the work and is why the 'Tabbed' ui and other projects had to be pulled, as it mainly broke Office by using Windows rendering conventions and APIs/hooks.

  36. Alphabet workers announce the formation of a union

If you objectively understood how inaccurate and out of deeper contextual understanding the stuff you are repeating is, you would surely be embarrassed. The things you highlight have not even been major union issues in most of the world since the 1980s, yet you are blaming it for low cost labor usage spikes in the last decade or two, when Unions have been declining and almost non-existent in the SAME TECHNOLOGY sectors work has moved to China. So there was virtually NO union technical manufacturing in the same timeframe work moved to China, but yet you and other conservative goofs like to say that is the reason why. How? Unions that didn't exist could NOT HAVE caused the shift to overseas manufacturing. These are boogey man stories for sad and stupid capitalist absolutists. Everyone that thinks the OP comment makes sense, it is time to read a REAL book and not Hannity level talking point notes. Truly encouraging you to look up what you are saying, it really is not accurate and silly in context.

  39. I see there's no mention of the removal of the People app in the latest insiders builds. Sure, you can still get to your contacts by opening Mail and clicking the button still, but I know those who have it pinned to Start or the taskbar, who I assume will magically lose the icon this year. Personally, I find it really annoying when it was so easy to get to before from Start, and the people search in the start menu doesn't search through contacts (only the GAL). All of that, of course, is unrelated to the "People on the taskbar", which does still work...

And it's based on Electron/Chromium and is more bloated, then just forget it. I used the Mail app to get notifications for my Outlook.com mails but it broke on its own and stopped syncing. The Calendar app has a nice full Year view on one page that's handy.

Mail on Windows 10 isn't really an Outlook app, it's an email app. And I use it over Outlook online because of its offline capability and instead of Outlook desktop because it's way faster for me. And although it doesn't have all the million features Outlook desktop has...I don't like email, and use email as little as I can, and only ever use it to send and receive emails....which doesn't require a million features.
